Just curious what you all use for stock scanners and/or screeners? Also what settings do you use to pick those great penny runners? Volume? Price? RSI?

I would like to start posting some picks of my own and I see a lot of folks saying "This just popped up on my scanner..."

Thanks in advance!

I use the charts on Bigcharts.com with these indicators:

RSI
Volume
Moving Averages
OBV
Candlesticks

I use the technical stock screeners on smallcapcenter.com

Thanks Machiavelli, you have been helpful to me since I started here asking about brokers. Appreciate it.

BENJAMINS, thanks man, I am very curious as to the settings these guys use on the screeners. There was a guy on here a year or so ago named Ktrain420. He would pick runners everyday, and be right 90% of the time it seemed. I know he used microcap trade, but I was too much of a noob then to ask about what indicators he was looking for when setting up stock filters. I am sure that matto, superman, shakerzzz, pennybuster, etc... all use a scanner or screener with certain indicators to find the runners. I would be ever grateful to know the secrets of the scanner. Just think, the more of us that know, the more people will buy in and drive the price up, eh?

Thanks again for any help!

Does anybody use Steve Nisson's scanner? I just got an email about it and he's lowering the price to $79. But despite the popularity of his book, I've never heard anyone mention his scanner.

Since it's about the same price as the microcaptrader, has anyone used both and have a preference?

Guys, I'm trying to find a scanner that I can adjust the settings of the technical indicators. I want to be able to set them & have them scan the OTCBB's in real- time constantly....I have looked into a few things & they don't seem to be what I want....

Any ideas?

I'm interested in the MACD, RSI, Volume, & such...

you'll probably have to go through your broker's Pro platforms.... for that...

I used www.stockfetcher.com when I was still trading pennies. I haven't been a subscriber in at least a year though. When I was, it was a very good program. You can create simple scans or very detailed scans. It scans for stocks in all price ranges. One problem is it didn't have all the pennies in its database when I used it. It wasn't so much a problem because it always had enough in its database to find at least one stock to play around with.

They're pretty cheap too. Their advanced package is only 16.95 a month of 9 for the standard version. If you're just using it for scanning the basic package might be enough.

One thing I remember really liking about their service is the way it created lists. Say you scanned for stocks that are under 5.00 and had volume above the 20 day average. It would create a list of all of them. Then when you click on the ticker it would have a simple popup chart with volume, price, and the tools you were using to scan for. So if you were using MA's to scan it would overlay the MA's on the quick chart. If you used MACD it would have the MACD.

What made the popup charts even more user friendly is instead of closing the window and clicking on the next ticker you could click an arrow and go to the next ticker on the list. It made scanning hundreds of stocks easy if you were looking for simple chart patterns you could quickly recognize.

I don't know what else you would need to scan stocks. Their forums are jam packed with users who have extremely detailed scan prerequisites. You can even 'borrow' someone elses scans to find stocks. Enjoy! Matt

Should also note, not sure if this does live scanning or not. I used it more as an EOD scanner.

Jenna, it scans for pretty much any tool you want. I think it even did CMF. It will even scan for candlestick patterns and if I remember correctly will try to identify chart patterns for you; as in cup and handles, pennants, etc.. It's a powerful scanner if you know what you're doing. Like I said, it's easy to use from the get go, but plenty of capabilities you can learn. Matt

Jenna...for Big Board Stocks...Check this scanner out. Turn up the volume for this video Demo....

It's the best scanner for Big Board stocks out there...even if you just do a basic scann like all Nasdaq or NYSE stocks that gap up...you can easily spot the hot stocks quick...Or NASDAQ stocks that went up an x amount of % in an x amount of min to catch the big nasdaq movers in real time..early

various replies:

Skip, K learned from dardadog according to "legend," but developed his own style...I've seen him pick 'em just using the montage--no level 2. He shouted out lots to *look at* but only entered the most likely...the best pure-runner player I've been around... To join either his or Dog's runners, though, you had to have a finger on the trigger, unless you're willing to chase (which I am not)... and then one foot out the exit...Runnin' with K, I would start typing in my sell as soon as I hit the buy button...

Shakerzz may have scanners, but as a paid pumper he doesn't really need 'em...When Matto was posting picks a lot, he was mainly posting news plays.

You posted a good filters thread:

http://www.allstocks.com/stockmessageboard/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/4/ t/000004.html

p-juan mentions stockfetcher at EOD and wonders whether it will scan live. No, not last I knew...it was something to be used the night before, like stockcharts scan, or for that matter smallcapcenter's:

a) although smallcapcenter does work during trading, the data is delayed...

b) stockfetcher is quite reasonably priced

Gary, dadog's filters are something to try in increments, ie, don't get "overwhelmed." BUt good luck widem...let us know how it goes...

Thanks Tex for the information,
I have been trying to get used to using it today and it can be overwhelming at first (still)I like some of the options it has with the scanners and filters that can be set but I need 2 more monitors to be able to keep up with all the info on the screen , I can see I will wear out to mouses (or mice) a month with all the clicking going on here , my wife thinks I'm playing a video game with all the clicking going on..
And I have a laptop with a second monitor on it BUT I run my Scottrade ,Allstocks, Pinksheets, Microcap ,and a L2 usually but with Microcap I dont need it..
And I am going to see if I will even need to use Microcap by the end of the trial month , but I do love getting Live L2s and the streaming filters but havent used them to trade yet ..
So it is going to be a LONG learning experience with trading and using the new platforms..
I do suggest that you need 3 to 4 monitors running to be able to keep up with all the info at once because with all the programs I am running I can basicaly only watch one at a time now..
I might get another laptop that will handle another monitor ,there getting a lot cheaper now , then I will be using 2 comps with 4 monitors to trade....
That way keep all streaming info up on one comp then trade on the other...
But thats way down the road for me I just want to figure out the 5 programs I have now ..
Thanks for the info and help Tex ..
Gary
