Everyday someone starts a topic where people can post the stocks they think are going to run. I like to do somethink a little different. With the end of the year just a month around the corner, we need to be makeing some decisions. Are there any stocks that your down in, that you'd like to write off of your 2006 taxes instead of 2005? Post your picks here.

DDSI / I thought that I knew what I was doing up until I got involved with this stock. It's very diffcult to pick stocks that are going to make big runs, it's mostly luck. My advice is don't get greedy, take 10% return and walk, don't get caught up with the hype that is on these boards. Almost every post is by someone who has no idea what they are investing in, and it's all about what they hope will happen based on zero facts or history.

I really liked QBID in the past. Shoot I made 20K on it last year alone. But people just won't give up the ghost. So what if it is coming along. They are only growing on the shareholders back. I heard the o/s is over 40 billion now. That is just what kills a stock and makes it worthless. Its not what could the pps be if the value was "this" anymore. It is the preception that the real investors that but real big time money into stocks, think about it. Do you really think that a big time mutual fund would invest in a non reporting pinksheet with over 40 billion shares. And it doesn't matter how much is restricted. I really appreciate the money I made on this but it is time to realize that there are better investments out there that hasn't killed its own share price through tremendous dilution. The companys growth didn't kill this stock the company's share count growth has. No one wants to invest in a 44 billion share company no mater what. And groups don't play it anymore either taking out the run factor too.

WTVN - 5 name changes and 3 reverse-splits in 6 years. Occassionally a pumper jumps on and tries to gather some interest on this one. Dont fall for it.

AMVS has a bad rap, sure ric, I agree. Putting my thoughts aside, even POS's run, but I do believe AMVS will pull itself off of the blacklist.

Interesting how many losing stocks are presented so quickly. And the chart for almost every one looks like a christmas tree on the left and a ski slope on the right.

I think most of penny stocks are losers and scamers. Don't lose too much money.

I think you guys missed the point of the topic. The point was not just loser stocks, but loser stocks worth holding through December so you can write them off of 2006 taxes. I would think that these stocks would be in one of three categories:
1) Stocks you've lost so much in it doesn't matter any more. Like a $1000 investment in PCCR or whatever their called now that's only worth $1
2) Stocks your down in, but you think their is some chance of recovery.
3) Stocks that you don't think will recover, but wont go down much further in the next month.

It's not a standard deduction. Every sale of stock durring the year Must be listed on Schedule D. If the results are a loss they are reported on the 1040 line 13. You get to subtract up to $3000 from your regular income. So if you only lost $2000 dollars, you should be able to deduct the entire loss from your income.
I started this topic I figured there were those who were down more the $3000. (I was close at one point.) If your down more then $3000 you could hold off a month before selling and deduct some of those losses on 2006.
Btw, standard disclaimer: I'm not a tax professional. I only know a few things because I don't like the idea of paying someone to figure out my taxes after I lost money in the stock market.

I said it's not a standard deduction. I ment to say it's not an itemized deduction.
To answer question 2 "roughly, about how much of the $2,000 can be recovered."
It can't be "recovered" it can only be subtracted from your income. This means if your income from your job was 32,000 and you lost $2000 on the stock market, the irs would treat you the same as if you only made 30,000 from your job. This is a pet peeve of mine. A lot of people talk about tax deductions as if it's some kind of "prize" from the goverment. All a deduction is only money that you don't have to pay taxes on. In Indiana we have a lottery winnings deduction. You get a tax deduction for winning the lottery. That doesn't seem fair. But really all their doing is saying that if you won money from playing the Indiana lottery, Indiana doesn't then turn around and take taxes out of those winnings. (you still have to pay taxes to the federal goverment). Anyway my point is that you never really gain anything from a tax deduction. Take a deduction whenever you can, because it lowers your taxes, but never enough to make up for what you've lost.
