Question about Brighthouse:

If anyone knows already, you'll save me some research time.

I was told by some central Florida friends that Brighthouse is "Time-Warner" using another name. They may believe this because Brighthouse offers "RoadRunner" internet service in that area.

Thanks for any help.

BL,

I can't confirm, but being exAOL/TW I can tell you that is very likely. Time Warner owned a bunch of cable companies that were not TW franchises when AOL bought them. These are likely one of those, however, they were all operated under a different set of rules. TW cable contacts may have helped pave the way for us to get in the door, but if the ownership/management setup is how it was back then it would be a seperate contract and deal with them as it would with TW itself.

Hope that helps a little.

Interesting....Tampa/St Petersburg is number 12 on the list of top US TV markets. I am going to start emailing Brighthouse Tampa Bay again. Hopefully QTN is coming to other Brighthouse areas soon. This PR really gets my hopes up. Anyone in Florida with Brighthouse please help me out by sending emails to them. Not sure who else is in Florida but I would think we have quite a few qbidians here; Jennifer your in Tampa Bay right?

Thanks, Ligge. Helps a lot. Gives me a pretty good understanding of the many (although "loose") relationships that probably exist in that industry. Anyway, it still sounds like a good forward move. Good job, Frank.

MT: i don't know about the percentages, but if you look at the population in that area it would lead you to beleive that it didn't take a lot of demand, to get picked up there. I don't know if they use a formula to figure it out, but maybe they will carry Q in all areas shortly. 2.1mil subs would be more justifiable. Sounds good anyway.

Thanks, Gator. I didn't find any "visible" link either. Ligge may be correct about there being some type of loose link or working relationship between Brighthouse and Time-Warner, but I guess it doesn't really matter. Still a good move for Q ... and hopefully for the shareholders. Waiting is always the hard part of any job.

Alabama 10th in Nation in Older Gay Couples
Bob Johnson, Associated Press, April 25, 2004

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Frank Romanowicz and Bob Hill have been a couple for 30 years, living together most of that time in the home they own in Birmingham. The longevity of their relationship amazes some of their straight friends.

"We've had people tell us that we are their heroes and examples because we've been able to stay together for so long despite receiving no support from church and society," Romanowicz said. "We've had more than one person say 'you've been together longer than my two marriages.'"

Romanowicz, 62, and Hill, 64, both retired from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, are not alone in Alabama, a politically conservative, Bible Belt state, where more than 80 percent of legislators have said they support a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages.

Despite the state's conservative reputation, a new study by the Urban Institute lists Alabama as being 10th in the country in the number of older gay couples, per capita. An older couple is defined as two people 55 or older.

The report was prepared by Gary Gates, a demographer for the Urban Institute, using 2000 Census data, which showed that 8,109 couples in Alabama reported themselves as same-sex unmarried partners, a 658 percent rise from 1990. The rankings for older gay couples were included in "The Gay and Lesbian Atlas," published by the Urban Institute.

With the ongoing controversy over whether gay couples should be allowed to marry, Gates said the atlas provides information concerning the age, occupation and other details about gays.

"There's been an enormous amount of public debate about gay couples and very little information," Gates said.

Gates said same-sex couples face problems not faced by married couples, particularly if one of the partners dies.

"From a policy perspective, not being able to get married has a big impact," Gates said. He said it prevents senior citizens from transferring an estate from one partner to another and "they can't get social security retirement benefits."

Hill said he and Romanowicz have experienced many of the problems that face two people growing old together without the legal benefits of being married.

"When I had two mild strokes, the doctor never talked to Frank about my condition. I told him I would like him to and he never did," Hill said. Because of that experience Hill and Romanowicz have drawn up legal documents that allow them to participate in decisions concerning the care of the other.

Hill said he and Romanowicz also worry about whether they will be able to stay together if one or both needs to move into an assisted-care facility or nursing home.

"Being senior citizens who are gay and retired, the problem we face is that retirement homes won't let you cohabitate. We would have to get two apartments," Hill said.

A constitutional amendment banning gay marriages passed the Alabama Senate 24-1 and is pending in the House. A supporter of that proposed amendment, Alabama Christian Coalition President John Giles, said he's not surprised Alabama would have a large number of older gay couples just because the state is a popular retirement designation "regardless of orientation." But he said he believes it would be wrong for the state to legally recognize these couples with marriage certificates.

"We maintain that marriage is between a man and woman and should be sanctioned accordingly and find little or no room to negotiate that position. Most of the surveys we've done show about 90 percent of Alabamians share that sentiment," Giles said.

After 30 years together, Hill said he and Romanowicz are not worried about being able to get married, but they do want to be treated as a couple.

"We feel blessed that we found each other. We just want the benefits that a heterosexual couple has," Hill said.

Romanowicz said he and Hill often face obstacles over matters that most married couples would find a routine part of daily life, such as how to be listed in their church directory.

"We've even run into the issue of whether Bob and I should have pictures shown together in the church directory. They would not let us be photgraphed together," Romanowicz said.

This might be bigger then what we think!!

Bright House Networks is a division of Advance/Newhouse, which manages more than 2 million subscribers in cable television systems in and around Birmingham, Tampa Bay, Central Florida, Indianapolis, Bakersfield and Detroit, along with several smaller systems in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, including the Eufaula system. Advance/Newhouse is a privately held company headquartered in Syracuse, NY.

BL, this should shed a little light on the Brighthouse/Time Warner relationship. Both articles are a little long so I am not posting the full contents here. Here are a few quotes from the articles, feel free to read the complete articles at your leisure.

David

------
http://tinyurl.com/ccrou

"The new name is required because Time Warner amended its cable TV partnership with minority partner Advance/Newhouse Communications. Advance is now assuming managerial control over some cable systems previously managed by Time Warner, including the Tampa Bay area and Orlando.

In addition to the Florida markets, Bright House is the new name for other Time Warner cable systems that Advance will manage in Birmingham, Ala.; Indianapolis; Detroit; and Bakersfield, Calif."

------
http://tinyurl.com/bzgyr

"It could be said that a family dynasty was born when Advance/Newhouse Communications Inc. created the MSO Bright House Networks by taking over management control of some 2.1 million customers that had been part of its longstanding partnership with Time Warner Entertainment LP. An expanded family dynasty, that is."

"Bright House comprises systems in central Florida (including Orlando) and Tampa, Fla.; as well as Detroit; Bakersfield, Calif.; Indianapolis, Ind.; and Birmingham, Ala. Those properties made up one of the strongest clusters in the Time Warner Cable fold.

And because TWE still owns a minority stake, the A/N team can take advantage of programming deals struck by the larger MSO (with 10.9 million subscribers).

As part of the deal, TWE-A/N’s 6.7 million subscribers were split into three equal baskets — one in the Houston area, one in upstate New York and the Florida cluster. Advance/Newhouse chose the Florida cluster."

Tell me how you know when you see a buy vs sell. My level II's show transactions but can not determine if it's a sell or buy. I use alphatrade.
a buy is a trade going through at the ask...
a sell is a trade going through on the bid....

your right in one of your later posts, that you sell on the ask, and people buy on the bid, but that is irrevlant when finding out who is buying and selling...because there will always be a buyer and a seller on a trade...

but for a trade to be a buy, its gotta be at the ask and sell on the bid...

so if the bid x ask on qbid is .0005x.0006
--a trade at .0006 would be a buy and at .0005 it would be a sell

Not to split hairs a buy does not have to be at the ask. It can be at the ask, between the B/A or at the bid. So when looking at trades (buys and sells) you can only look at them as transactions. Sometimes you can guess because it's some what obvious, but you still don't know for sure.
yes clyde i understand what you are saying but you are making it to complicated...

a buy has been at the ask and a sell has been at the bid ever since the stock market was created...

YES, it is true that people buy on the bid, and people sell on the ask, but that is true for everytrade...so in that case, there are no buys or sells...

just trust me, a trade at the ask is a buy (although yes somebody is selling at the ask) and a trade at the bid is a sell (although yes somebody is buying).

you have to put a more personal view onto it...we have been trading at .0004-.0006 for a while now...are you going to put in your buys now on the news were entering birmingham...

probably not,...yes its great news, but its not going to change the trend...
Also, MM that are holding restricted shares normally tend to dilute higher level of shares when a good PR comes out....dilute into news...

its better to just stay put here anyways, if we go up a tick or two, we will probably break through this support...

i don't think that you can consider new markets as fluff, the more markets, the more exposure, the more money in the end.
