No it isn't, but that doesn't knock qbid out of the park.. They are still on the move and making steam.. Every market has more then one buying to be Number One. Frank said he would take number two.... hereTV has been ahead of Q the whole time... I think this will just help open doors for QTN...IMO

looks like qbid, is losing more ground. "LOGO has signed deals with cable carriers RCN (Starpower), Adelphia, and Time Warner." this now puts qbid in a very distant third compared to logo and here! tv.

MTV’s long-awaited gay channel joins plenty of other channels & programs on cable & network TV

By BRIAN MOYLAN
Friday, April 01, 2005

THERE WAS ONLY one new gay character on mid-season replacement shows in recent weeks: Chris Didion, the gay private investigator so wonderfully played by Rick Worthy on ABC’s “Eyes” (Wednesdays at 10 p.m.).

But the big news is on cable. Last fall, LOGO projected that the gay digital cable channel started by MTV Networks would be launched on Valentine’s Day. In January, the channel pushed the debut back to June 30, acknowledging that it wasn’t ready for prime time and its backers wanted to make sure it could premiere strong. New York-based LOGO is now promising that it’s going to stick with the new date. LOGO has signed deals with cable carriers RCN (Starpower), Adelphia, and Time Warner.

“This is showing progress,” says Stephen Tropiano, author of “The Prime Time Closet: A History of Gays and Lesbians on TV” and a professor affiliated with Ithaca College. “In this case, being seen as a demographic is a good thing … There are red states and blue states, and the idea of a network that goes throughout the entire country — it goes to states of both colors. I think that says a lot about this idea of recognition.”

Tropiano says shows such as Showtime’s “Queer as Folk” and “The L Word” have paved the way for LOGO’s original programming. “They have proven that there is an audience for those shows, and they are quality shows that could be on commercial TV,” he says. “That’s been proven. People will watch things that are meant for a gay and lesbian audience.”

Damon Romine, entertainment media director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, said a gay cable channel could bolster the number of representations on network television. “When the networks see there is a market for this and there is a place for this, and see our numbers and our purchasing power, the advertisers will respond to that,” he said, “and networks will represent us more.”

Romine, who joined GLAAD in March, also said that the number of representations of gay people on scripted prime-time network television continues to experience a lull lately — the lowest number since GLAAD started tracking such trends in 1996. He also said that he’s seen some gay characters on pilot television shows but it’s too soon to say whether that will translate into more gay characters on network television this fall.

Currently, there are only six gay characters on five prime-time, scripted network television shows: Will and Jack on NBC’s “Will & Grace,” George on UPN’s “Kevin Hill,” Kerry on NBC’s “ER,” Chris on “Eyes,” the ABC show that debuts this week, and Adam on UPN’s “Half & Half.”

When LOGO debuts, it is scheduled to air “Noah’s Arc,” a drama series about black gay men by Patrik-Ian Polk, writer/director of the film “PUNKS,” which addressed a similar topic but did not enjoy a wide distribution. Some viewers might have already caught episodes of “Noah’s Arc” at Black Pride events across the nation last year. It also is available on DVD, but Polk said last year that it was proving difficult to get television executives interested in airing it.

Also on the LOGO schedule: “My Fabulous Gay Wedding,” hosted by gay comedian Scott Thompson and wedding planner Fern Cohen. They follow around couples making preparations to tie the knot. Also planned: “Cruise,” a series by the makers of MTV’s “Real World” that follows travelers on a gay cruise ship. (No discussion about how much they’re showing, however.)

LOGO also plans to air shows about gay rugby teams, the gay rodeo and gay fraternities and sororities. In addition, it has penned deals to show a number of high-profile movies with gay content, including “A Home at the End of the World,” “Party Monster,” “Far from Heaven,” “Billy Elliot,” and “Being John Malkovich.”

Here! (formerly known as here! TV) is already available as a pay-per-view service on satellite providers DirecTV and DISH Network and on an on-demand service for RCN, Adelphia and Time- Warner digital cable. In April, here! Is scheduled to debut the movie “Tides of War,” starring Adrian Paul as a gay naval officer whose submarine enters North Korean waters and is attacked. If that isn’t enough drama, he’s also mourning the loss of his partner. The movie costars Mathew St. Patrick, who portrays Keith on “Six Feet Under.”

On a Monday night in early June, St. Patrick and the rest of the “Six Feet Under” cast will be back on HBO for the show’s fifth and final season. Yes, it is slated to air on Mondays. In what seems to be an attempt by HBO to wield its power beyond Sunday nights — and possibly avoid the deadly clutches of those “Desperate Housewives,” who have conquered that evening on ABC — the series is scheduled to air its final 12 episodes on Mondays at 9 p.m.

It’s fifth and final season, Showtime’s “Queer As Folk” returns on Sunday, May 22, at 10 p.m. The dreamiest addition to this gay drama has got to be Ryan Scott Greene, who plays Brandon, a hot new character who is going to give Brian (Gale Harold) a run for his money in the sexy and slutty department.

Showtime is also going to be showing lots more sex and drugs on Saturday, April 16, at 8 p.m. “Reefer Madness” is a film adaptation of the musical version of the 1930s propaganda film that shows how bad drugs really are. Thanks to gay composer Dan Studney, there are 16 musical numbers in this campy spoof, which costars actor Alan Cumming.

In May, Rosie O’Donnell is scheduled to make her debut in a television movie, alongside Andie MacDowell. In “Riding the Bus with My Sister,” a New York fashion photographer, Rachel, (MacDowell) has to care for her developmentally-disabled sister, Beth, (O’Donnell) after their father dies. What Rachel originally thought was an inconvenience becomes a means of spiritual reawakening after she meets the people Beth has befriended while riding around on city buses all day. CBS will air the Hallmark Hall of Fame production on Sunday, May 1, at 8 p.m.

Expect a gay makeover for Agatha Christie sleuth Miss Marple. In four new, two-part episodes for PBS’s “Mystery!” series, Marple isn’t going to become a lesbian, but she’s investigating some. The episode, “A Murder is Announced,” which starts on May 5, shows an implied relationship between two women that is in the original work by Christie. But in “A Body in the Library,” which begins on June 5, the screenwriter has created a relationship between two women.

A representative from the show says the Christie story contained a relationship between a man and a woman from separate social classes. That sort of relationship isn’t as shocking today as it was when originally written, so it was changed to reflect a lesbian relationship.

In June, “P.O.V.,” PBS’s documentary series, kicks off its next season with “The Education of Shelby Knox.” Slated to air on Tuesday, June 21, at 10 p.m., the film, which made a splash at Sundance, looks at Knox, a teen in Lubbock, Texas, who pushes for sex education instead of an abstinence-only curriculum. Her struggle quickly expands to include lobbying for a gay-straight alliance at her high school.

While gay viewers wait for an all-gay network, let us not forget about the unofficial gay network, Bravo. June marks the return of “Blow Off,” a reality series about a Beverly Hills hair salon that includes several openly gay stylists (shock!). In July or August, look for the premiere of two projects from Kathy Griffin in a six-episode, unscripted show, “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List,” as well as another one-woman show, “Kathy Griffin is … not Nicole Kidman.” You had to tell us.

That's exactly right, firefly. I don't know why people are so concerned about LOGO. If they are successful, that will increase the demand for Q Television (think XM and Sirius radio!) If LOGO is a failure, Q will learn from their mistakes. Sounds like a win-win situation to me. I see the glass being filled.

Actually depending on the next 18 months and how they go with a few issues, Q being only a portion, we are looking at Spain.

If by some fortunate reason it sees something that high we are moving to West Indies and I will set up to work remote part time. Q could definitely make the difference between stateside, Spain, or islands though.

The potential is there, I dont think Frank has the ability to do the execution needed though. Not a slap at Frank by any means because I do think he has the ability to surround himself with people that can execute his ideas and dreams. Thats really all any business needs from the leader anyway. And from what I am seeing he is stacking his house in our favor brick by brick.

Hmmmmmmm, QTN, LOGO, Here!, Pride all making great strides in 2005.

Look at all of the CSI shows--new and re-runs, home decorating channels, makeovers and reality programing, sports channels, movie channels, religious channels, music channels, news channels.........

There is plenty of room for several gay networks.

Fly you are right--great publicity for one and for all of these networks.

And QBID has the programing. [Wink]

Remember the tortise and the hare race?

Not only is that a win win situation in that scenario but I still see Frank selling out too.

Logo will not only need Qtv if it succeeds but if Frank keeps like he is now they will be wanting it badly. It will save their own production costs and increase their overall available content in an instant as well as have benefitted from the hype and promos Frank is doing now. If Logo goes over well the demand for original program will increase and be breathing down their necks to stay on top.

Thats my prediction in the long run anyway. Frank cant fight the big boys. Sorry, I just dont see it happening. I have been employeed by the big boys and I see this being a prime opportunity for an acquisition and I think thats great.

Even his sgow totles dont have to change. Q on the Move could very easily stay that and be on another station. Recognition goes with the buy and thats always a concern when a buyout happens.

AOL still hasnt changed the name of Netscape or ICQ, and it was years before Spinner changed to Netscape Radio/AOL Radio. People dont like change so any transition that is made needs to be seamless and I think Frank has intentionally set that up for us, well and him. [Smile]

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe LOGO and HERETV are publicly traded entities. If they where, I could understand some minor shaking in the boots. Although the other 2 are on the air, it seems that Q is in the face of the public much more.

From the Qtelevision IR:

4/6/2005 - RE: NCTA

From Rene Schenk

As the NCTA Show wraps up, we are thrilled with the outcome. We have secured programming deals, been exclusively interviewed by national news programs and acquired high level talent from our competitors. Q's management held a champagne reception on Monday evening that was attended by more than two hundred cable executives. Needless to say, we were a hit.

Management will be returning today to Palm Springs and we will highlight specifics of the event in the coming days.

Chicago Eyes Gay Tourists
by Steph Smith 365Gay.com Chicago Bureau
April 01 2005

(Chicago, Illinois) The Windy City wants to be known as the Gay City. Hoping to capitalize on the 2006 Gay Games to be held in Chicago Illinois is preparing a massive LGBT media blitz.

"We will have our first-ever media-familiarization trip focusing on the affluent gay and lesbian market," Jan Kostner, deputy director of the Illinois Bureau of Tourism, told a conference on tourism this week.

In August, the state and city will host members of the gay press, showing them the charms of Chicago.

"We will promote the Gay Games, and Chicago and Illinois, as gay-friendly destinations," Kostner told the Chicago Tribune. "We want to get the city on the radar screen."

Community Marketing, a company that advises cities on their LGBT ad campaigns estimates that gays and lesbians spent an estimated $54.1 billion on travel in 2003.

A good chunk of that cash has gone to Montreal, the first city in North America to aggressively court the gay tourist.

Philadelphia, New Orleans and Minneapolis have recently launched their own gay ad campaigns.

Chicago has a good base to work from. The city is already ranked 8th-most-visited U.S. destination in a survey conducted last year by Community Marketing.

The Gay Games is expected to bring about 12,000 participants to the city and to generate more than $25 million in spending.

"Q" Television will be there with the television rights, this will be sweet for "Q" with all that exposure. IMO we will have networks banging at our doors wanting to share the rights, $$$ in the bank.

Go QBID!!!!! Lets see some Green [Big Grin]

BREAKING NEWS OXYGEN WEBSITE 04/05/05

OXYGEN RENEWS MULTIYEAR CARRIAGE AGREEMENTS
WITH COX AND INSIGHT
AND ADDS NEW SUBSCRIBERS ON COMCAST AND ADELPHIA

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, April 3, 2005 -- Oxygen has completed multi-year distribution renewals with Cox Communications and Insight Communications, with continued distribution in markets including Orange County, Northern Virginia (including DC suburbs), Columbus, and Louisville. Oxygen recently announced a renewal agreement with Charter Communications and with the edition of Cox and Insight; it now has long term agreements with every major multi-system operator. In addition, as of April 6th, the network will add 80,000 new Comcast subscribers in Cleveland, Ohio, rounding out full distribution in that market. In March, Oxygen added additional customers throughout Southern California on Adelphia’s expanded basic tier. Oxygen was also recently launched on Comcast in Anne Arundel County, Maryland and Augusta, Georgia.
Oxygen launched in eight million cable households in 2000 and is presently carried in 54.5 million homes. The women-owned and operated network is the only independent network to have gained widespread distribution in the last five years. Over 90% of the network’s carriage is on expanded basic tiers.
“The conventional wisdom has always been that it would be harder for us to gain distribution as an independent programmer,” said Geraldine Laybourne, Chairman and CEO for Oxygen. “We’ve disproved that theory by working closely with our partners and going the extra mile to deliver the best network for women 18 to 49. We intend to build on our relationship with our distribution partners by working hard to be their favorite network.”
“Oxygen has a formula for programming that’s unique, fresh and very different than any other network,” said Pamela Euler Halling, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Programming for Insight.

Hopefully Q won't be on during the infomercial time slots around 3am. It'd be great if it was on closer to peak hours. We'll wait and see!

Peaser01 I believe that the time slot may be up to oxygen. When I talked to Richard about the POD deal, he said the time slot was up to the affiliates that carry the POD signal. Matt
