OT: Pump'n'dump spam? Hooray! It may be criminal, but the return of e-mail-stock scam means the bull is back. April 7, 2004: 4:33 PM EDT
Sign up for the Eyeopener e-mail newsletter
The Bull is back. I know this for certain. My spam tells me so.
This one, for example.
*** URGENT INVESTOR TRADING ALERT *** (XXXX) is our PLAY OF THE MONTH stock pick.
And this ....
**Our Picks Are On Fire!** ... Rising oil prices at record highs with no signs of dropping have set the stage for a major windfall in an emerging developer of high-profit based oil and gas reserves. (XXXX shares) are set to explode based on expanded production through strategic partnerships for producing fields in 4 major oil-producing states.
You're probably getting similar come-ons. And you should recognize them as come-ons ... stupid, fraudulent, invitations to throw away your money.
You remember the pump and dump, right? That's where a certain someone buys stock in a company, then goes to message boards, chat rooms, and spam e-mail lists to talk other people into buying it. Their sudden surge in buy orders sends the stock price up, allowing the certain someone to unload his stock at a profit.
Get it? He pumped up the value of the stock, then dumped it.
Usually it is a penny stock with little in the way of research or analyst coverage. With such low values and limited shares, even small buying waves can lead to big jumps. The companies often don't even know it's happening (that's why I left their names out of the e-mails cited above).
This scam was common in the late 1990s, when Internet stock trading came of age. A few people got convicted for it. One 15-year old made $273,000 by running such a scam (he had to give it back). Wall Street had its own bigger time version of it, issuing research that over-hyped some stocks, even when the stock was being trashed in house.
The numbers back up my unscientific observations that market scamming is on the rise.
According to Brightmail, a San Francisco outfit that monitors and filters e-mail for clients around the world, financial based spam has been on the rise and as of March accounted for one out of every four e-mails.
Straight out scam and fraud e-mails (like the Nigerian guy asking to use your account to park a few million dollars) have fallen. They made up about 12 percent of e-mails, down from 15 percent in February.
So why am I taking the resurgence of such e-mails as a positive sign? YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS Follow the news that matters to you. Create your own alert to be notified on topics you're interested in.
Or, visit Popular Alerts for suggestions. Manage alerts | What is this?
Because it means that scammers and schemers think enough gullible investors are coming to the market to make it worth their while to run the old pump and dump. The market, in other words, must be really coming back to attract the charlatans.
Sure, it's a cynical way of looking at market improvement, but hey, I gotta be me.
Now, does this mean we're at the top? I don't think so. I'm still getting more Viagra/Cialis and pharma spam than financial spam. But the finance spam is starting to build.
When the ratio gets to be even, that's when I'll call the top.

I ALWAYS get at LEAST a couple of Spam-Pumps a DAY. For a while - that NOTHING FRTE was coming 3 or 4 times a week every 2 months or so. THAT sorry thing was pumped to about .36 last fall. It's about .02 now I think - Poor people who believe the crap on the internet. Hey - it made that kid LeBed $800,000 even if he had to pay $235,000 back - CRIME PAYS I guess

I believe the last day was 4/6 I saw a post some where on the thread to this affect, also I understand it that way as you really don't take control of the shares you buy for 3 days though you can trade them.

Just called Ameritrade and they looked up th ex-dividend date for me. It is the close as of today April 6th. You must own the stock by today to get the 1 for 100. Just FYI, I know some have asked and they didn't put it in their PR. Hope this helps.

If I sell CDVJ tommorrow, do I still get CSJJ shares.

By: the_unknown_factor 06 Apr 2004, 02:33 PM EDT Msg. 473 of 1503 Jump to msg. # Whether you believe in company or not there will be some short term positives including OTCBB shell, CSJJ more combinations, dividend, more airport progress etc. Are they using some money sold from shares. Yes, but it's going to a good cause as far as I am told. The shareholders have expressed concern about share levels and we will see if he keeps his word to keep levels at this area. Airport manager also confirmed he sounded serious about the project so on that end it's good. IR agent says all looks good. Transfer agent says all looks good. I don't know who else to confirm things with. Everyone I call says things are in progress.
just relax all this gloom an doom around!!!!!
to wait = reward
i have 4.38 million shares you don't see me freakin out do you.... it's all good

The day of Reckoning is finally here. What will it bring?
By rights - there should be a heck of a run from open to close for free shares of CSJJ - but it seems like people could care less based on the dismal volume of Monday and Tuesday.
According to Andrea -anyone who buys CDVJ TODAY DOES in fact get the free shares in CSJJ, at 1 share of CSJJ for every 100 CDVJ owned.
Good Luck to eveyone, Steve
Hey - I wonder where Roger's been? Must be studying hard! LOL

Holy sh1t!!! What a drop!! 0.0030 Never thought I'd see the day where Qbid's pps would be higher than ours!!! Ooops! Back in the 40s now. That was a little nerve-rattling.... even for me... and I've basically decided to forget this one for a good long time and expect to sell only months down the line. salemm.

Sorry - I somehow forgot to put the 100 in -Maybe it was my EXCITEMENT over the POS. LOL. I fixed it. Nobody wants any anyway.
Down to .0042 again on a measley 12.5 million.
I mentioned the other day that I wasn't happy with this stock's performance at all - and that I was down a lot of money. I also mentioned that I would be a whole lot happier if I had bought in around .004-.005, but now - that's not true either. The only thing is if I had bought cheap I could get out even and not look back. I'd love a divorce right now - But I can't AFFORD it! LOL - Don't know if it's the company's dumping or the MMs - but something will NOT let this run. Or walk. Or even CRAWL. I've never seen a stock with so much "supposedly" going on just keep going lower and lower and lower.
Guess I'm going to be "married" to this damn thing for a lot longer - but I sure hope not. We don't have a CLUE as to the truth about Andrea OR this company - but even if it's bad - this thing SHOULD pop enough to get most of us out ok. I don't think they'd do a bankruptcy - because as far as they're concerned, there's still far to much money here to grab. Heck - if it drops in half again (.002s - which it may well do next week, imo)I may average down even more - of course knowing that it could be a LONG wait to get out - and/or I could lose it all).
I'm not blaming the stock - It's not the STOCK's fault. Even if this thing hit .05 by close - I will always regard it as my biggest mistake EVER when it came to buying a stock. I didn't do enough DD and it's my fault, and I accept that. Good Luck to all of you.
Let that be a lesson to any others who just jumped on the PR train like I did.
Steve

There is tons of activity going on right now. I would not be surprised to see green by the end of the day. I know that sounds funny but just a hunch.

Where on earth do you see tons of activity? IPIX or MOBL?
Level II is 10 @ .004 and the rest (7) go down to .001 on the bid.
Even if it WAS green at close - in .005's doesn't help anyone unless they're in cheaper.
What a damn disaster this turned out to be. I should have gotten out the first day I got in when it bounced back to .013 after it dropped out of the sky.
This stock is a MAgician - It made my money disappear in 2.2 seconds! (Well - it FELT that quick anyway)

The problem is that people have lost tons of money, including me. But I believe in the company's future and what they are doing. I am going to buy more at these levels and even if it goes down. You are obviously not going to make a quick buck here and if you cant' deal sell and move on.

Yeah - It will probably be .01 imo! Til Monday at open, then .005 cuz it will be as diluted as this thing. Only kidding - I don't have a clue nor to I care about the free shares. Why would we think we'd do any better with those, by the time we'd get them?

Now if they can do the airport the right way people will be shooting themselves in the foot that they didn't buy more when they could. It's not like the airport is in some desolate town in the middle of nowhere. They are right outside of Montreal. I have been saying all along that the airport is the key to success. The oil companies are going to be starting a war as to who supplies the fuel farm. Airports=money. Plus we have a fingerprint company with other companies in the future. Why is everyone so scared?

This stock is really depressing. I just want to know WHY it is down. Good news, free shares, mergers, OTCBB status. There must be something hidden that is driving this down...maybe MM's, maybe dilution. How can it be dilution is the company is supposedly buying back shares to decrease the float?? I don't really care about the free shares anymore either. The price will drop to at least .1...which is $4000 with 4,000,000 shares. I am boggled with this thing....are stocks with OTCBB status harder to manipulate than Pink Sheets?? Hopefully they are and that will be our ticket...but it's depressing to see your portfolio in the red so much. We need some good news.

We are all in different seats of the smae boat talking about the bad news is as important as the good news especially when hundreds of good people may take action from our posts. Their is something wierd going on here we all know it and we all hope that when the fat lady sings we all make out. Thats why you see the same people here hanging on. My portfolio is down 36% because of this and I will ride it through because I know If I bail it will run like a train. and one more thought ,if I was not in it I would be looking for a bargin entry point about now! hehe Dave

Agreed. Its just a little longer hold than some people thought, but it's going to be worth it. Free shares at .47 or .01, they are free, stop complaining

expect free shares to continue a decline in price until the shell is filled. Also, there is a good chance of a forward split. Does anyone know the OS on CSJJ?

We have continued to try to get above .0045 and everytime it falls back. I am surprised we have not seen any new news about the distribution of shares. We can use that for a strong finish. I said earlier we are going to finish in the green and I still believe we will.
