Ebay has been in a danger zone for long time now lol espcially recently when they raised their fee's on Ebay stores and pissed off alot of sellers... many (like thousands) who jumped ship to Ebay's competitors.. it will be interesting to see what there 3rd Quarter report will be like... more and more sellers keep jumping ship daily/weekly...

UPDATE 1-EBay shares rise 5.5 percent
6:31 p.m. 09/26/2006 Provided by Reuters

By Lisa Baertlein

LOS ANGELES, Sept 26 (Reuters) - The shares eBay Inc. (EBAY) gained 5.5 percent on Tuesday after an analyst raised his third-quarter revenue estimate for the company amid renewed merger and acquisition speculation about the e-commerce leader.

Goldman Sachs analyst Anthony Noto raised his revenue estimate for the third quarter to $1.445 billion from $1.436 billion in a client note issued late on Monday and sent to journalists on Tuesday.

Noto, who has a buy rating on eBay shares, also said the company's revenue and listing declines had bottomed in the second quarter.

Seven Summits Strategic Investments, an independent investment research group in Chicago, in a brief note on Tuesday attributed the share rise to a Wall Street rumor that Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), with a market value of around $266 billion, wants to buy eBay, which is valued at about $37 billion.

Talk of a Microsoft-eBay marriage has popped up regularly for months. Representatives from each company on Tuesday said they do not comment on rumors and speculation.

Elsewhere, online news sites and ****s were rife with rumors about merger and acquisition activity regarding eBay China.

EBay spokesman Hani Durzy, who declined comment on the China speculation, said the company had named PayPal China head Jeff Liao to the additional post of chief executive at eBay EachNet after Martin Wu fulfilled his term in that post and left the company to pursue other opportunities.

EBay has been investing heavily in China, where competition from home-grown rivals is fierce and the rumor mill has been working overtime.

"We're constantly evaluating our businesses to make sure we're operating effectively," Durzy said.

Citing a rumor reported by Chinese Internet media firm Sohu.com Inc. (SOHU), China-focused research firm Pacific Epoch in Shanghai said eBay is in the fifth round of negotiations with Tencent Holdings Ltd. about an acquisition, but Tencent's desired selling price is too high for eBay.

Tencent operates China's popular "QQ" Internet messaging service.

Pacific Epoch said another market rumor had eBay's China division, EachNet, up for sale with Tencent as an interested buyer.

Elsewhere, the Shanghai Daily picked up a report from China's 21st Century Business Herald citing a well-informed source who said Tom Group, a media conglomerate controlled by Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing, would announce its takeover of EachNet and PayPal China within a few days.

Shares of eBay closed $1.45 higher at $27.67 on the Nasdaq after hitting a session high of $27.70.

Stock Market Alert: EBAY had a strong day on Tuesday, trading up over 5% to finish the session at $27.67 after the company received a bullish note from GS. Volume was strong on the day, with 22.3 million shares of the stock changing hands, compared to a normal daily average of 19.8 million shares. GS believes that Q2 2006 was likely a bottom for the stock in terms of growth, and they believe that revenue growth will stabilize / accelerate by year end. GS also said that it believes that EBAY’s intrinsic value is “above $50.”

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Internet companies traded mostly higher Wednesday, led by eBay Inc., shares of which hit a three-month high after Morgan Stanley analyst Mary Meeker said that she expects the company's third-quarter earnings to meet or exceed expectations.

EBAY29.94, +0.04, +0.1%) was the sector's star of the day, gaining 6.1% to reach $29.90 a share, which is its highest closing price since the end of July.
In her note to clients Wednesday, Morgan Stanley's Meeker wrote that strategic moves eBay acted on two months ago seems to be achieving its goals of returning to a more profitable mix of auctions versus online stores.
"This could bode well for the holiday season," she said.

Google profit surge seen; Yahoo, eBay also report

Consensus view on eBay improving of late

Following a tumultuous first half, marked by a controversial move to right itself by increasing the listing fees that it charges its largest merchandise sellers, some on Wall Street think eBay may have begun to right itself.
In the last few weeks, several analysts have upgraded their view of the stock and increased the revenues and operating income estimates for the world's largest online marketplace.
"We expect eBay to post better than expected earnings," Deutsche Bank analyst Jeetil Patel said in a recent note.

EBAY29.67, -0.01, 0.0%) to report sales of $1.43 billion, up 29% from a year earlier. Earnings are seen at 24 cents a share, up from 20 cents last year.
The company's stock price has fallen by a third this year on investor concerns about the company's plans to spend more on its technology and on its non-U.S. business, especially in China.
Some also worry that a growing number of online merchants are switching to selling products using the search-based advertising offered by Google and others, and moving away from using eBay's auctions and online stores.

Nice Close at $31.74. Last week, EBAY reported a 10% increase in profit and a 31% rise in sales, owing to a lower tax rate and surging use of its electronic-payments system.

I'm thinking their return to their roots of online auctions has been good and will continue to be good for the stock price. Sure, they pissed off some "EBAY Stores" and "powersellers" in the process.....

EBAY33.92, +0.89, +2.7%) , which is Amazon.com's major competitor, gained 2.7% to close at $33.92 a share after Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. analyst Robert Peck noted that eBay's testing a seller rewards program in the United Kingdom.

Sellers that eclipse earlier monthly sales high are being rewarded with a commission that represents 25% of the difference between the old and new monthly sales high, according to Peck.
This is significant because eBay is "finally" trying to create incentives for its sellers to dole out more goods, Peck notes, which is something it's failed to adequately do so far.
