Lithium Battery Systems Introduced by ZAP at Silicon Valley Maker Faire
Monday April 24, 9:30 am ET

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 2006--Advanced technology pioneer ZAP (NYSE Arca:ZP) (PCX:ZP - News) introduced its new Portable Energy products for powering handheld electronic devices at the Maker Faire 2006 in San Mateo, California, a unique Silicon Valley event that celebrates new technologies and their makers.

Called ZAP® Portable Energy(TM), the new rechargeable power packs can power a wide range of mobile electronics like cell phones, digital cameras, laptops and more. ZAP says Portable Energy is the culmination of years working to develop more reliable and longer lasting battery technologies for electric cars. Mobile electronics are pushing the technology envelope for innovations in advanced batteries and ZAP CEO Steve Schneider says that this technology in larger formats can power electric cars on a level comparable to today's internal combustion automobiles.

"The battery technology to power electric cars is here and ZAP Portable Energy is proof that the technology is maturing at a rapid rate," said ZAP CEO Steve Schneider. "This and other battery advances are creating the economies of scale necessary to commercialize advanced electric car batteries."

ZAP Portable Energy helps solve the growing battery dilemma for mobile electronics, offering a rechargeable source of power out in the field or extending the battery life of your favorite electronic device. The technology also reduces the need for disposable batteries, which can be bulky, expensive and harmful to the environment.

ZAP, a publicly owned Company based in Northern California, also displayed its advanced technology vehicles, including the XEBRA electric vehicle, its line of ZAPPY3 electric scooters, and a new line of off-road electric vehicles, including the BUZZZ electric ATV and the MUD-E electric dirt bike.

The lithium-ion battery system can be recharged up to 1000 times and has up to four times the power of conventional batteries. Each ZAP Pack uses a smart microprocessor control system that can power a variety of mobile electronic devices, including handheld PCs, digital cameras, cellular phones, audio, DVD, compact disk players or equivalent, video cameras, laptops and more. Several models are available that offer the versatility to charge DC electronics from 4.0 to 19.0 volts through either a DC or USB port. ZAP Portable Energy is now available for immediate delivery.

Smart Car Rally ZAPs Gas Prices From NY to California
Tuesday April 25, 8:30 am ET
California Automotive Pioneer in National Spotlight as Gas Prices Climb

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2006--Automotive pioneer ZAP (NYSE Arca:ZP)(PCX:ZP - News) announced today that with the completion of the New York International Auto Show, a rally for the new Smart Car Americanized by ZAP is headed back to California to highlight a solution to record gas prices.

Self-serve regular averaged $2.91 a gallon on Monday, up from $2.67 two weeks ago, according to the Lundberg Survey. ZAP is rallying with the Smart Car to raise awareness about micro-cars and advanced technology vehicles that can help reduce gas consumption. The publicly owned Company has grabbed national headlines with its business plan to establish a nationwide portal, brand and distribution network to target the growing niche for new fuel-efficient transportation technologies.

"It looks like ZAP has hit the sweet spot with all the changes happening in the auto industry," said CEO Steve Schneider. "ZAP was founded more than a decade ago with the vision to find solutions to high gas prices. Today, with exclusive distribution for the only micro-car in the United States during record gas prices, this vision has become a reality."

A 26-year veteran of the auto industry, Schneider was a guest Friday on CNBC's "Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo," a nationally televised news program covering the last 60 minutes of trading on Wall Street. Streaming video of Schneider interviewed by one of Wall Street's most respective journalists is now available at http://www.zapworld.com/about/video.asp.

The rally started on April 4 at ZAP Headquarters in Northern California and reached its mid-point at the New York International Auto Show, April 14-23. The rally will follow a Northern route on its journey back across the USA to California. The Smart Car Americanized for ZAP -- the most fuel-efficient all-gas turbo in the country -- has received the regulatory green light through its registered importer to allow for the distribution of the Smart ForTwo Coupe and Cabriolet in the USA. ZAP is commencing auto sales through authorized and licensed ZAP dealers throughout the country while seeking a select group of dealers to expand its business plan marketing micro-cars. In addition to the gas-powered Smart Cars, ZAP is also developing other cars with advanced technologies, including electric cars and other technologies.
