Ambient Successfully Completes Initial Phase of Providing Power Line Communications Broadband in Manhattan 3/3/2005 10:20:00 AM
BOSTON, Mar 3, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ambient Corporation (ABTG), a leader in Power Line Communications (PLC) technology, announced today it has activated a high-rise residential building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. The Ambient network is providing the opportunity for high-speed PLC connectivity and broadband Internet services to the condominium owners throughout the building.
Ambient began testing a PLC network for this site late last year. Through this testing and its ongoing development activities with Consolidated Edison (ED), its development partner, Ambient has devised an efficient and cost effective means of delivering PLC to the 16 floor, 213 unit condominium building. Two T1 lines, acting as a backhaul connection to the building, a server, and a router are connected to Ambient's PLC system. Ambient's proprietary multi-dwelling unit (MDU) PLC nodes transmit the signal throughout the building enabling ubiquitous PLC coverage.
"We could not be more pleased with the progress of this project so far," John J. Joyce, President and CEO, stated. "As summer approaches, we look forward to further expanding the utility and broadband applications selected for this site."
