(INKS), a leading provider of covert machine-readable security solutions for the prevention of counterfeiting, fraud and diversion involving high profile brands and documents, today announced that its InkSure Ltd. research and development subsidiary has been chosen to participate in the 6th EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development ("FP6"). FP6, which is based on the Treaty establishing the European Union ("EU"), is a program designed to strengthen the scientific and technological bases of industry, encourage industry's competitiveness, and promote research activities in support of other EU policies. "We are delighted that InkSure has been selected to participate in this multi-year EU research effort, which involves the development of multifunctional nanometallic particles in a variety of applications," stated Elie Housman, Chief Executive Officer of InkSure Technologies Inc. "We believe that InkSure was selected because of its technical knowledge in the relevant fields. The results of our FP6 research are expected to further the development of our proprietary chipless RFID technology, for which we have recently been awarded two key U.S. patents." InkSure Ltd. will receive R&D support for up to 190,000 Euros (approximately US$245,000) for its work over a three-year period, with such funds provided by the European Commission. It has been chosen to participate in a project entitled "Development of Multifunctional Nanometallic Particles by Sonoelectrochemistry". Other participants in the project include Bar Ilan University (Israel), the University of Padova (Italy), Coventry University (UK), The University of Kent (UK), The Hebrew University (Israel), Pometon S.p.A. (Italy), BASF Aktiengesellschaft (Germany), and Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Germany). "Working with other members of the program, our participation in FP6 will seek to develop and produce nanoparticles that can be used in conductive inks for inkjet, offset and other printing processes," continued Housman. "The ultimate goal of our internal R&D program is to develop 'chipless tags' that can authenticate and monitor large volumes of items with greater flexibility than barcode technology and at a much lower cost than electronic chips."
