VIASPACE Adds to Its Intellectual Property Portfolio

Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Corporation Files Series of International Patents Covering Fuel Cartridges and Fuel Delivery Systems

PASADENA, Calif., July 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VSPC - News), a spin-off of NASA/Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory that transforms proven space and defense technologies into hardware and software products that solve today's complex problems, announced today that it has further bolstered its intellectual property portfolio through the filing of a series of international patents covering fuel cartridges and fuel delivery systems for fuel cells by its subsidiary company Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Corporation (DMFCC). These fuel cartridges and fuel delivery systems enable laptop computers and other portable electronic devices to be powered by fuel cells, such as direct methanol fuel cells. The announcement was made by Dr. Carl Kukkonen, CEO of VIASPACE and DMFCC.
Fuel cells are expected to gain a substantial market share because they offer longer operating time as compared to current lithium ion batteries and may be instantaneously recharged by simply replacing the disposable fuel cartridge. A US Fuel Cell Council report conducted by the Darnell Group predicts that 105 million fuel cell powered electronic devices will be sold per year in 2011/2012. If each device uses two cartridges per month for their three-year lifetime, this is 7 billion cartridges per year. Direct methanol fuel cells are being developed for these applications by companies such as Toshiba, NEC, Hitachi and Sanyo in Japan, and by Samsung in Korea.

"Fuel cells and fuel cartridges will give the consumer freedom from the electrical grid," stated Dr. Kukkonen. "VIASPACE and DMFCC are providing the necessary advances in fuel cartridges to facilitate widespread adoption of fuel cells for portable power applications such as laptop computers and mobile phones."

The patent applications were filed by the leading intellectual property law firm of Fish & Richardson P.C.

VIASPACE Announces Technology Licensed From Caltech for Maritime Security

PASADENA, Calif., July 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VSPC - News), a spin-off of the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory that transforms proven space and defense technologies into hardware and software products that solve today's complex problems, announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary Arroyo Sciences acquired an exclusive license from Caltech to MUDSS technology. The Mobile Underwater Debris Survey System (MUDSS) was developed to locate and identify underwater unexploded ordnance. MUDSS was developed jointly by NAVY's Coastal Systems Station and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory for the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program. Originally the technology was optimized for fusion of acoustic, magnetic, electro-optical mine-hunting and trace chemical detection sensors using advanced signal and image processing algorithms and real-time 3-D visualization technologies. The announcement was made by AJ Abdallat, COO of VIASPACE.
The unfortunate Swissair Flight 111 mishap in 1998 offered an operational opportunity to test capabilities of MUDSS in a real-world setting. MUDSS successfully allowed the search team to define the debris field quickly and accurately in Peggy's Cove, located off the coast of Nova Scotia. For this investigation, the MUDSS payload was extended to include advanced Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) and electro-optical identification system (EIS) to locate debris from distances in excess of 110ft. MUDSS operated by combining sonar and EIS technologies in a single submersible, torpedo like vehicle that feeds high-speed data to a mothership via a fiber-optic cable. This package enables the sonar to locate objects on the ocean floor and then to use the EIS to zoom in and identify those objects at closer ranges.

According to Mr. Abdallat, "Licensing federally funded RF, nuclear and electromagnetic imaging technology is part of the VIASPACE strategy to deliver information products in transportation and supply chain security, logistics assurance and first responder safety. MUDSS is another key building block in our R&D pipeline." VIASPACE plans to deploy MUDSS to enhance the functionality of its maritime risk assessment and coastal surveillance products being developed under partnership with ATLAS Electronik of Germany.

VIASPACE Announces Licensing of World's Fastest Inferencing Engine - SHINE - From Caltech

PASADENA, Calif., July 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VSPC - News), a spin-off of the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory that transforms proven space and defense technologies into hardware and software products that solve today's complex problems, announced today that its subsidiary Arroyo Sciences licensed SHINE technology from Caltech. Spacecraft Health Inference Engine (SHINE) is an ultra-fast rules engine originally designed for on-board monitoring, analysis and diagnosis of NASA's spacecraft and ground data systems. It is intended for mission critical systems where inferencing speed, portability and reuse is of critical importance. SHINE embodies revolutionary concepts in knowledge representation and manipulation that go well beyond traditional expert systems. Standardized benchmarking studies have shown that SHINE can process over 30 million rules per second on desktop class computer processors. It delivers over 100X increase in inference speed and up to 1000X reduction in the size of the execution environment footprint over the best comparable commercial product.

SHINE was co-invented by scientists, David Atkinson, currently Program Manager for Project Constellation Systems Engineering Support Office within the Exploration Systems and Technology Office at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Mark James, a scientist with the Ultracomputing Technologies Group. SHINE is the only known expert system that delivers applications to a target system without requiring any additional run-time environment or dynamic memory allocation. VIASPACE Subsidiary Unveils New Product Line

PASADENA, Calif., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VSPC - News), a spin-off from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (which is operated by Caltech) that transforms proven space and defense technologies into hardware and software products that solve today's complex problems, announced today that its subsidiary company Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Corporation (DMFCC) has designed a new plastic-based methanol fuel cartridge. Methanol fuel cartridges provide the energy source for laptop computers and other portable electronic devices that will be powered by direct methanol fuel cells. The announcement was made by Dr. Carl Kukkonen, CEO of VIASPACE and DMFCC.
(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050808/LAM065 )

Fuel cells are expected to gain a substantial market share because they offer longer operating time as compared to current lithium ion batteries and may be instantaneously recharged by simply replacing the disposable fuel cartridge. Direct methanol fuel cells are being developed for these applications by companies such as Toshiba, NEC, Hitachi and Sanyo in Japan, and by Samsung in Korea.

"Low cost fuel cartridges are analogous to disposable alkaline batteries, but a cartridge containing 50 cc of methanol can power your laptop for five or more hours compared to 10 minutes if you used an alkaline battery," stated Dr. Kukkonen. "When your laptop is plugged into the wall, no methanol is used, but when you unplug, you have freedom from the electrical grid."

DMFCC's current fuel cartridge, see link above, is designed to be inserted into a laptop computer or similar portable electronic device. Other designs in progress are for applications such as cell phones and PDAs.

This has bottomed at 2.20 the last three days! That's the strong support level for this right now. Any buy at or below 3.00 will be a good play for the following week.

There is rumor that next week, VSPC will announce some amazing news that will bring the price over 5.00.
