Need advice from you again, since you are on the oil thread.... I bought Valero (VLO) a couple of months ago at $72 a share. Since then it has dropped over $13. Is this plunge going to keep up for a while? I always value your advice. Thanks in advance.

Sharkone, I never trade stocks over 2.00 per, and most of my trades are under 1.00 per. I have no experience dealing with high end low profit margin stocks.
Charts suggest a dip to the 55.0 area. Will there be a bounce back? I don't know but would lean towards doubtful.
Look at your MACD histogram; it is not good.
Keep in mind, I have no experience with stocks in your price range.
I have several "blue chip" safe stocks, then I dabble in the pennies. When you mention "(the) charts suggest a dip to the 55.00 area," what charts are you talking about ?
I haven't had much luck with the pennies in the past, and I am learning as time goes along. Once I have a little $$ accumulated, then I can start playing the pennies more.
Some of my "expert" friends told me to invest in the safe blue chip stocks, yet all my blue-chips I bought in the past 6 months have tanked 10-15%...so much for safe.
But, I'm digressing...How do you look at the MACD histogram and "foretell" the future of a stock? I saw that the RSI value of VLO has not dipped to almost 30. Doesn't an RSI value of 30 usually mean that the stock is due for a rebound?
Again, I am quite new at all of this, and I appreciate all your help and patience. How long have you been playing the pennies?
Most appreciative, Sharkone

shark, i've been running (a mock) portfolio full of .01$ to 5$ stocks with RSI 30 (and showing a possible rebound) stocks for 2 months...the value has not increased...(it's actully down 4-5%) fewer have rebounded than have stayed down....
we are not in a strong market.....

remember, there is no shortage of gold or diamonds. debers determines the diamond market each year and grinds the rest up for drill bits. technology today allows 1 ounce of gold to be extracted from one ton of gold mine dirt...also gold is extracted from newly mined coper
notice that gold has had a minimum price for the last 20 years... (minimum cost to extract)
oil is in limited supply and the demand is increasing beyond our ability to supply.... china and third world starting to buy cars.

Thank you so much for your imput and help. I know have to study the VLO chart and figure out the details. Again, I value your insight and wait with baited breath for your posts.

Thanks for your imput and help. How do you find companies that have a RSI of about 30 without having to go company by company? Are there any screeners that you can use to just isolate the RSI of different companies. I use Ameritrade, and still trying to get used to all the features.

"The group's president, Sheik Ahmed Fahd Al Ahmed Al Sabah, said OPEC's current output and spare production capacity will keep the market well supplied through the year. And in Washington, Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali Naimi assured U.S. officials that the kingdom has enough spare production capacity to stabilize world oil markets.
Al Sabah, who is also Kuwait's oil minister, said $40 a barrel for the OPEC basket of crude oils was an acceptable price level, according to Dow Jones Newswires."
