OAK RIDGE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2004--
Oak Ridge Micro-Energy Inc. (OTCBB: OKME) today
announced that the company has been awarded a patent from the United
States Patent and Trademark Office, "Thin Film Battery and Electrolyte
Therefor," US 6,818,356 B1, with 22 separate claims. The claims relate
to:

-- Composition for a new thin film lithium electrolyte

-- Method of making the electrolyte

-- A thin film battery utilizing the new electrolyte

Oak Ridge chief technology officer, Dr. John Bates, stated, "In
addition to improving on the properties of the electrolyte, this
patent takes us a step closer to manufacturing batteries outside of
the UT-Battelle license and could significantly decrease or eliminate
royalties based on the older technology. This is an exciting step for
us, as we begin to break new ground in the field of thin film battery
manufacturing, as well as identify new applications for this unique
power source."
When prompted for an update regarding the company's Phase Two
implementation, Bates continued, "Two batch processing tools are
currently being installed. The tools will increase our thin film
deposition area on a single run by about 60 X to over 700 cm2.
Installation is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 15, 2004, and thin
film battery production using the new tool set should begin by January
2005."
Oak Ridge President Mark Meriwether stated, "Our goal is to have a
small turnkey thin film battery foundry operational during 2005. In
addition to increasing our production capacity for low-volume high
margin applications, this facility will serve as a model for volume
manufacturing scale-up by potential manufacturing partners."
