PROTOKINETIX INC. (PKTX: OTCBB)

Vancouver, British Columbia, January 12, 2010
ProtoKinetix’ AAGP™ Shows Promise as a Tool in Diabetes Treatment / Cure
Independent studies done by universities and corporations have illustrated a remarkable increase in the yield of viable stem cells after cryopreservation using AAGP™ in the freeze-thaw process. One future approach to increasing diabetics’ insulin production is related to an ability to convert their stem cells into islet cells for transplantation. The feasibility of this procedure is dependent upon the amount of functioning islet cells that can be derived from the patient’s stem cells. This is where AAGP™ can make a very beneficial contribution.
The Edmonton Protocol has successfully transplanted islet cells from donated pancreases into the liver and subsequently produced insulin in the patients. This protocol has been adopted by hospitals around the world, however, the lack of donors and the requirement for anti-rejection drugs severely restricts its use on a wide spread basis. The scientific community has been aggressively pursuing the ability to differentiate a person’s stem cells into islet cells. This achievement will provide a compatible source of islet cells that can be used in conjunction with the Edmonton Protocol. In order for this exciting new treatment to be both successful and economic on a universal scale, it is imperative that a very high recovery rate of islet cells is achieved. ProtoKinetix has demonstrated that it will be playing a pivotal role in the future treatment of diabetes.

About Andy Mandell...About Andy Mandell.......Biography Andrew P. Mandell — Mr. Diabetes®
Executive Director of Defeat Diabetes Foundation...
Andy Mandell is a self-made man and entrepreneur who developed several highly successful educational games, notably Quations™ The Crossmath® Game, Crossmath® Puzzles, Micro Magic and others. Andy is also an exercise enthusiast, and a Black Belt in the martial arts style: Shaolin Kempo Karate. He has participated in a number of triathlon activities and was an avid runner. As recently as November, 2005 he completed the New York City Marathon where he was entered in the “disabled” category because of his diabetic caused neuropathy, which allows him VERY limited feeling in his feet and legs (he needs to walk with a walking pole for balance during such times).

After his diagnosis in 1985 Andy continued to live as he had, working hard, playing even harder, eating whatever he wanted. Although, he did follow his doctor’s advice to read ingredient labels and NOT eat anything that had “sugar” in the top three ingredients. He was feeling well and had been, both before and after diagnosis (that’s how insidious diabetes is), and give little thought to the severe complications associated with diabetes. His disease continued to quietly progress until the day when he woke up to find that he couldn’t move without being in excruciating pain.

As the disease grew stronger Andy grew weaker. His neuropathy became so severe that he couldn’t bear to have anything touching his skin. Finally, he was in bed 20 hours a day (for two years), had limited feeling in his feet and legs and had lost 75-80 pounds. Imagine, a runner who could barely feel his legs!
Andy was faced with a choice that all diabetics ultimately face, take management of your health condition seriously or die.

Through aggressive self-management of his condition, coupled with sound medical advice from a group of diabetes specialists, he began to rebound from his debilitated physical state. He exercised through the pain, monitored every bite of food he ate, tested his blood sugar as many as 12 times per day, and took regular insulin injections of two different types – putting himon the road to recovery.

Andy thought that if he, a dedicated exerciser (he never considered himself an athlete), could nearly die from the disease; imagine what other people must be going through? He had only one course of action -- do anything and everything in his power to “Defeat Diabetes”.

In 1990, he co-founded Defeat Diabetes Foundation (DDF) with his brother, Jerry, to educate and inform the public about diabetes and the dangers that it poses. Since that time he’s become knowledgeable in the field of diabetes, authored a fitness manual for diabetics, articles for a variety of publications and websites, and helped develop a screening test brochure that has been distributed to millions of children throughout the United States.

Helectures tirelessly about diabetes to individuals, elected officials, schools, community groups and organizations and has, to date, delivered hundreds of talks on the subject. He makes numerous appearances with the media as spokesman for Defeat Diabetes Foundation.

On December 21, 2008 Andy completed The Mr. Diabetes®Wake Up and Walk® Tour – an epic 10,030.3 mile journey walking the perimeter of the United States to raise awareness about diabetes. During the eight years of THE WALK™ he met with over 78,000 individuals, one-on-one and many thousands more, in groups who came out to meet him and share their own diabetes concerns and experiences. He conducted approximately 1000 media interviews (newspaper, magazine, radio, TV and Internet), reaching over 70 million Americans. Mandell has met with Senators, Congressmen, Governors, Mayors and other elected officials, and received 130+ proclamations and commendations for his efforts, including a Congressional Proclamation in June, 2005. He also had substantive meetings with hospital administrators and scientists to discuss and learn about the latest treatments for diabetes.

Next, he is writing several books based on his experiences. He will continue to develop meaningful programs for Defeat Diabetes Foundation including, Martial Arts Defeat Diabetes® Community Action Project (MADDCAP™), an historic health curriculum for Martial Arts Schools and The New Way Network, along with other exciting programs that have been developed and await funding.

He will continue his extensive speaking schedule reaching out to groups of all ages, contribute where possible to the science of

From another Protokinetix's message boards...Ran across this and thought to copy and pasted for others to read....I'm just bring up some good "Old" Protokinetix PR News..This is where alot of the market is going..Research and cryopreservation.. AAGP™ has been shown to significantly improve the yield from cryopreservation and opens a very large market for Protokinetix Inc. The market in industry includes the preservation of cell lines, bacterial, yeast and fungal cultures. In human and veterinary medicine there is a large market for the preservation of semen, blood, stem cells, oocytes, embryos as well as tissue samples. In the biomedical research industry, the ability to utilize effective cryopreservation techniques is invaluable

What did the Malta Skin-Ageing Conf.,..Accomplish??…It’s Exposure, BABY!
The Malta Skin Ageing 2009 conference targets cosmetics companies, pharmaceutical companies, food supplement companies, R&D departments, clinicians, veterinary medicine companies, marketing departments, investors, start ups and actors of the economic environment. Keynote speaker/L’Oreal….Is this the same company….
ProtoKinetix (PKTX) announces that L’Oreal (LOR) has applied for a patent using the ProtoKinetix’ Anti-Aging Glyco Peptide (AAGP™) family of molecules as the basis for a skin lightening agent.
This application had already been identified by PKTX as one of the many cosmetic applications included in its patents. If L’Oreal’s patent application were to be successful, they would have to negotiate a license agreement with PKTX to commercialize the use of AAGP™ in any product.
Do you think PKTX’s product AAGP maybe got some exposure from the Malta Skin-Ageing Conf.,??
VANCOUVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ProtoKinetix Inc. (PKTX) has been approached by a European biopharma investment group with a series of proposals to develop commercial partnerships in the pharmaceutical/cosmetic arenas. In order to support these initiatives, it has been strongly suggested that our European technology (AAGP™) should be more visibly showcased within the European community. This would include an awareness program leading up to a sponsorship for a listing on the AIM, London Stock Exchange.
Do you think PKTX’s product AAGP maybe got some exposure due to “The Malta Skin-Ageing Conf.,”???
With all the positive “Exposures” over the last year, not to point out all the great research that Protokinetixs has done in the last six years……Keep the AAGP Exposure, moving…..
