Well Glass, we can open carry now...

House Bill 2 is settled, with a 9-0 MS Supreme Court decision, there is not much room for questions about the bills constitutionality. So now we move on to understanding what H.B. 2 actually said and what that means to the citizens of Mississippi. We’ve discussed what the bill does at length on Mississippi Gun News but a quick review might be in order.

First the bill never directly addressed “open carry” so the idea that this was an open carry law was a complete fabrication by those who seek to limit our freedoms. Open carry has always been “legal” in Mississippi since the adoption of our most recent constitution in 1890. Article 3, Section 12 states;

The right of every citizen to keep and bear arms in defense of home, person, or property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall not be called in question, but the legislature may regulate or forbid carrying concealed weapons.

as i understood the law prior to this, we could open carry before, and the judge who blocked it was confused, but then, it seems most e judges are

Nope
Technically we could open carry because the state's constitution only allows government to regulate concealed carry. The law was written such that concealment was to mean that if any part of the gun was concealed, ie being in a holster, then that was concealed and therefore regulated.

The new language clears it up so that if it is recognizable as a gun, then it is not concealed.

The judge was a anti-gun moron and was trying to block the new language.

the town just north of me moved to ban the open carry law immediately on city owned property- it's not clear whether city owned property is the sidewalks or streets tho...

They can move all they want, but the state constitution is clear that they can't.

i don't live in town, don't want to. they do alot of things they ain't supposed to do...

the local churches are so aggressive about making sure we don't get taverns here that they send in people to start fights repeatedly in order to get them shut down if they do get a permit, which is almost impossible.... the hardware stores close early saturday afternoon and don't open again til monday... the delta ain't like the rest of the state.
the only reason we are still here is because the housing market has been so screwed up. it's beginnig to look like a bunch of people are going to just die in their jobs instead of retire because they can't sell tehir houses without taking huge loss. when 70 year olds are compaining about bieng upside down in the mortgages you know the economy is fried-

Come on down south. We're more refined down here.
Things are quite different on the coast.

Have to imagine the delta is not a hotspot for real estate. You're going to be stuck there. There are areas just north of the coast however which will always be growing.
Lots more to do down here as well.. More employment opportunities and all.

nah we're not stuck here by our own RE. i learned when i was young, walk away from a deal if you don't get exactly what you want. i bought exaclty right and i have had really good equity from day one. you can only make money in RE when you buy right. no matter how much money you dump in a place? you will only get a smal return on upgrades if you are in the worng location. don't pay market value ever.
i have access to the city schools (the biggest RE thing here) and i am outside the city limits which means i can run commercial on my home property, and i do. I more than qaudrupled the shop electrical power, it's even got gas heat.I went form a 50 amp to a 200 amp and 2 X 100 subs- the weather head can handle 600.
wifes career is the limiting factor. there's only so many labs that you do can gene splicing on insects. we figured we'd be here five years, which just happened to be when the bottom dropped out. There only been about 5 jobs nationwide open up in her slice of the field since 2009. It has not helped that monsanto has become the poster child for mad science in GMO'ing. It's looking like things will open up soon- bugs never stop developing resistence to pesticides and we have two major new pest that just got her int he last couple years. the spotted wing fruit fly and the Kudzu stink bug both came form japan and they are causing a huge mess. Alot of money is breaking free this year because they have no choice but to put alot of people on them.
