Mr change, Mr. transparency, Mr main st....

When sermons of Obama’s Chicago pastor, Jeremiah Wright, surfaced during the Iowa primaries, it threatened to derail Obama’s campaign. ABC aired one where Wright screamed, “Goddamn America!” Edward Klein interviewed Wright, who told him Obama’s team tried to buy his silence.
‘Man, the media ate me alive,” Wright told me when we met in his office at Chicago’s Kwame Nkrumah Academy. “After the media went ballistic on me, I received an e-mail offering me money not to preach at all until the November presidential election.”

“Who sent the e-mail?” I asked Wright.
“It was from one of Barack’s closest friends.”
“He offered you money?”
“Not directly,” Wright said. “He sent the offer to one of the members of the church, who sent it to me.”
“How much money did he offer you?”
“One hundred and fifty thousand dollars,” Wright said.
“Did Obama himself ever make an effort to see you?”
“Yes,” Wright said. “Barack said he wanted to meet me in secret, in a secure place. And I said, ‘You’re used to coming to my home, you’ve been here countless times, so what’s wrong with coming to my home?’ So we met in the living room of the parsonage of Trinity United Church of Christ, at South Pleasant Avenue right off 95th Street, just Barack and me. I don’t know if he had a wire on him. His security was outside somewhere.

“And one of the first things Barack said was, ‘I really wish you wouldn’t do any more public speaking until after the November election.’ He knew I had some speaking engagements lined up, and he said, ‘I wish you wouldn’t speak. It’s gonna hurt the campaign if you do that.’

“And what did you say?” I asked. “I said, ‘I don’t see it that way. And anyway, how am I supposed to support my family?’ And he said, ‘Well, I wish you wouldn’t speak in public. The press is gonna eat you alive.’

“Barack said, ‘I’m sorry you don’t see it the way I do. Do you know what your problem is?’ And I said, ‘No, what’s my problem?’ And he said, ‘You have to tell the truth.’ I said, ‘That’s a good problem to have. That’s a good problem for all preachers to have. That’s why I could never be a politician.’

“And he said, ‘It’s going to get worse if you go out there and speak. It’s really going to get worse.’

“And he was so right.”

LOL? you want to vote for Romney right?

i spent a great deal of my time and energy making sure i wasn't mistaken about his religious beleifs. CasCow? are you Mormon?

forget Faith, let's talk about he Politics of religion.

it a requirement of the Mormon Church to tithe at least 10% is what i hear, adn MUCH more if you want to rise in the Politics of the Church....

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 119
Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Far West, Missouri, July 8, 1838, in answer to his supplication: “O Lord, show unto thy servants how much thou requirest of the properties of thy people for a tithing.” HC 3: 44. The law of tithing, as understood today, had not been given to the Church previous to this revelation. The term “tithing” in the prayer just quoted and in previous revelations (64: 23; 85: 3; 97: 11) had meant not just one-tenth, but all free-will offerings, or contributions, to the Church funds. The Lord had previously given to the Church the law of consecration and stewardship of property, which members (chiefly the leading elders) entered into by a covenant that was to be everlasting. Because of failure on the part of many to abide by this covenant, the Lord withdrew it for a time, and gave instead the law of tithing to the whole Church. The Prophet asked the Lord how much of their property he required for sacred purposes. The answer was this revelation.
1–5, The saints are to pay their surplus property and then give, as tithing, one-tenth of their interest annually; 6–7, Such a course will sanctify the land of Zion.
1 Verily, thus saith the Lord, I require all their asurplus property to be put into the hands of the bishop of my church in Zion,
2 For the building of mine ahouse, and for the laying of the foundation of Zion and for the priesthood, and for the debts of the Presidency of my Church.
3 And this shall be the beginning of the atithing of my people.
4 And after that, those who have thus been atithed shall pay one-tenth of all their interest annually; and this shall be a standing law unto them forever, for my holy priesthood, saith the Lord.
5 Verily I say unto you, it shall come to pass that all those who gather unto the land of aZion shall be tithed of their surplus properties, and shall observe this law, or they shall not be found worthy to abide among you.
6 And I say unto you, if my people observe not this law, to keep it holy, and by this law sanctify the land of Zion unto me, that my statutes and my judgments may be kept thereon, that it may be most holy, behold, verily I say unto you, it shall not be a land of aZion unto you.
7 And this shall be an ensample unto all the astakes of Zion. Even so. Amen.

it gets better cshcow,

D&C 43: 2-9
2 For behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye have received a commandment for a law unto my church, through him whom I have appointed unto you to receive commandments and revelations from my hand.
3 And this ye shall know assuredly—that there is none other appointed unto you to receive commandments and revelations until he be taken, if he abide in me.
4 But verily, verily, I say unto you, that none else shall be appointed unto this gift except it be through him; for if it be taken from him he shall not have power except to appoint another in his stead.
5 And this shall be a law unto you, that ye receive not the teachings of any that shall come before you as revelations or commandments;
6 And this I give unto you that you may not be deceived, that you may know they are not of me.
7 For verily I say unto you, that he that is ordained of me shall come in at the gate and be ordained as I have told you before, to teach those revelations which you have received and shall receive through him whom I have appointed.
8 And now, behold, I give unto you a commandment, that when ye are assembled together ye shall instruct and edify each other, that ye may know how to act and direct my church, how to act upon the points of my law and commandments, which I have given.
9 And thus ye shall become instructed in the law of my church, and be sanctified by that which ye have received, and ye shall bind yourselves to act in all holiness before me—

that is the Propeht speaking... not God, or Jesus...

now, i don't have that much Faith in God, much less some man telling me God told him to tell me this....

i ask again Cash, are you Mormon? cuz there's more and i mean lots more "oddness" going on there..

i'm trying to remember exactly what Jesus said about prophets.... i don't recollect anything too good..

ROFL, yes and no.

Tithing is 10% of all income...and yes it is required to remain a 'member in good standing'. The only other monetary recommendation is what we call 'fast offerings' which are charitable donations to help the local congregation\neighborhoods.

And what other 'oddness' do you see going on there?

the politics of the Church are odd SF. as are the politics of nearly every Church,

i'm actually glad you decided to enter the discussion,

maybe you could 'splain an endowed or annointed Quroum to me?

i'm not into religion bashing.

i only brought htis forward to point out to cashcow that we can pick on anybody for their religion and their views.

I think there's a good chance that Romney will choose alot of Moromons to leadership postioins if elected don;t you?

and i don't think that would necessarily be bad fo rth ecountry either. i have a great deal of interest in agricultural business oppportunities and Mormons have a great deal of Ag intersts too.

so my alignments are not agianst Mormonism.

I spent a great of effort trying to undertand the politics of polygamy. I am not against it. I am against the marrying of 17 yr olds and less... I am agaisnt the attitudes that allow for women and children to be seen as chattel....

i think Polygamy is actualyl a form Communism in it's more pure from... from each to each and th emore the marryer [Big Grin]

as to the 10% issue? that is a requirement, or you not amemebr in good standing right?
iwent the thru the Temple in Bethesda (which i considered a Privilege and apreciate) when i twas open to the infidels back in 74? I was impressed, but i also saw soemthing very eurocentric about it's opulence.... obvious display of wealth like that made me uncomfortable even at 14 or 13? or 15?

the huge stainless steel baptims pool left a deep impression in me, if i recall properly, i viewed it thru a huge glass window forma special viewing room too...... i'm more of a blackwater river washed in God type myself, trees and fish and frogs and turtles around is my ideal... no, i'm not Baptist and yes i was Baptised as a babe in Protestant Church...

Could you be a little more specific with the question? What is the reference?

Not sure. I'm actually hoping he leans more toward his business acumen than his 'Mormon-ness'. While I think the country needs both, I think the economy is going to kill us faster than lack of the 'light'. [Razz]

Polygamy is probably the MOST misunderstood belief\practice of the Mormon Church('s past).

Correct. The tithing is for the 'meat in Mine house' (Malachi 3:10). It covers the building of meeting houses, printing of lesson manuals/hymnals/other materials, and the upkeep/self insurance of current buildings.

If you were to try and demonstrate (as a people) how much you value your Savior and God, wouldn't you want to offer your very best craftsmanship/quality in a house devoted to Him/Them?

so, the Church of LDS has it's own equivalent of an IRS branch no?

and? when deciding who gets contracts (for instance)? the eventual value to the Church tithing process DOES get put into the decsiion making process in who gets awarded teh contracts, right?

it's a good "club" that looks after it's members... right? cuz looking after your members is preserving self-interest...

Faith and Politics just don't mix IMO... i don't want to be critical, i just can't get my mind around it because theres' so many conflicts of interest that crop up...

as to Romney's business versus religious acquaintences and possible appointm, ents? i don't belevie there's going to be a very big differnce if you look close.

that's the part that does make me uncomfortable. Since i am not a Mormon and i do have coinciding interests, i do expect to be "left out" in favor of people more closely aligned with Romney AND th e LDS... the leftover scraps will have to be enough i guess [Wink]

this isn't simply about the LDS Church either... Clinton looked after the Baptists and the State of arkansas... sheesh you should see all the new stuff they have over on the other side of the river compared to MS...
Huckabee woulda doubled down on all that too [Wink]
if Haley barour were running the country? MS would be in line fo rall that good stuff too..

OK, so i've been trying to follow the moeny a little...

Bain was not founded by Mitt, but aaprently it was SAVED by Mitt:

Romney also negotiated a complex settlement between the Bain partnership and the firm's lenders, including a $10 million reduction in the $38 million Bain owed the Bank of New England, which by that time had been seized by the FDIC and placed in Chapter 7 liquidation

trying to understand how distinct Bain is from Moromons, i find hints and clues here and ther that indicate that the LDS Church has recieved alot of stock tithes from Bain that MAY not have come from Mitt himself...

also? it appears that even tho Mitt don't run it anymore, he still collects a paycheck form his "investmetnss" there:

that means he is essntially hannity and Beck and Limbuggers boss?

sheeeesh.. think progress has a big job to unravel this can o'worms huh cash and ray?

Bain Capital was formerly run by Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney. It is a major shareholder in Clear Channel Radio, the largest owner of radio stations in the US and Premiere Radio, the syndicator of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Fox News Radio Network, and just for a little variety, Randi Rhodes and Jesse Jackson. If you ever wondered why the right ordained Romney the winner before the race even started

LOL... sheeeesh... none of 'em can be trusted. oh wait WE already knew that [Big Grin]

so why doe this no longer surprise me?
seems to me i am seeing nepotism everywhere these days... maybe i'm just paranoid? nah.....

Beck has credited God for saving him from drug and alcohol abuse, professional obscurity, and friendlessness. In 2006, Beck performed a short inspirational monologue in Salt Lake City, Utah, detailing how he was transformed by the "healing power of Jesus Christ", which was released as a CD two years later by Deseret Book, a publishing company owned by the LDS Church, entitled An Unlikely Mormon: The Conversion Story of Glenn Beck

this is where one of Romney's buds went.. so far, i don't know if he and Mitt arestill partners or not, buthe link to Salt Lake City is kindof obvious...

http://www.sorensoncapital.com/portfolio.html

EUGENE, OR -- Former members of Bain Capital fired six out of seven managers of a senior housing company because they are not Mormon, the fired managers claim in Federal Court.

David McCurdy and his co-plaintiffs sued Sorenson Capital Partners, Care Holding Co., Care Senior Living, and SCP Care Acquisition.

The plaintiffs claim that Care Senior Living, which manages assisted-living and other care facilities, hired them in March 2011, and that all six of them "had a proven track record of success in the senior housing industry."

They say the private equity firm Sorenson Capital Partners, which controlled Care's daily operations, fired them because they are not members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"The principals of SCP, including a number of its managing directors and officers, are former partners or executives at Bain Capital and Bain & Company," the complaint states.

Republican presidential candidate-in-waiting Mitt Romney founded Bain Capital in 1984 after working for Bain & Co.

hmmmmmm... paranoid? not me [Wink]
note the erroneous calim about Mitt being the Founder... have to do some more digging to try to understand if he DID or ddidn't Found Bain Captial... it was spunout of Bain Consulting and Bain himslef was not too happy about how he did it from what i can tell..

Mitt appears to have actualyl done agood job of helping the partners get out of Debt to rejuviante their cash flow, but who got screwed in htat? a whole slew of people from what ic an tell.. including the tapxayer.
