all this talk from and about Perry has me doing a little bit of fact checking....

i understand that Texas has a 29 billion$ budget shortfal, and i kept thinking to myself, that cannot be right, MS only has 6 a billion dollar budget to begin with and we had to cut that....

i also discovered that MS only got 1.5 billion
stimulus money from the Obama stimulus plan... who go the other 798.5 billion? [Mad]

The Texas State budget is 189 billion? That's twice the GDP of the whole state of MS [Big Grin]

OK, so here's where it gets instersting:

Texas, which crafts a budget every two years, was facing a $6.6 billion shortfall for its 2010-2011 fiscal years. It plugged nearly all of that deficit with $6.4 billion in Recovery Act money, allowing it to leave its $9.1 billion rainy day fund untouched.

so Texas got more economic stimulus money from Obam than MS spends in it's WHOLE Sate Budget [Big Grin]

bad Obama... send more money to us poor folks who really need it next time [Big Grin]

Legislative Accomplishments to Help Secure Our Future

The critics insisted that it could not be done. But Texas again balanced its budget this legislative session under Gov. Perry's leadership without raising taxes. With a responsible budget and $6 billion left in the state's Rainy Day Fund, Texas can continue to thrive as the economic powerhouse leading the nation to recovery.

what i'm most interested in is what jobs were created in TX?
.

Texan construction employment has contracted by 2.3% since the end of the recession, along with manufacturing (a 1.8% decline) and information (-8.4%). But growth in other areas has surpassed these losses. Professional and business services accounted for 22.9% of the total jobs added, health care for 30.5% and trade and energy for 10.6%.

notice that i'm quoting Perry's own site here he quoted the WSJ (Rupert Murdoch again)

why would a state grow health care jobs 30.5 %?

Texas’ June 2011 unemployment rate was 8.2 percent, up from 8.0 percent in May.
Texas total nonfarm employment increased by 32,000 jobs from May to June. Between June 2010 and June 2011, Texas gained 220,000 jobs.
The U.S. gained 117,000 total nonfarm jobs in July 2011 compared to June 2011.
The U.S. unemployment rate was 9.1 percent in July 2011, down from 9.2 percent in June.
The Texas unemployment rate has been at or below the national rate for 53 consecutive months.

1 to 1.5 points less than the national average is nothing to brag about...

it appears that Texas loses as many jobs as it creates, real job growth when you subtract the jobs created from the jobs lost is still negative [Wink]

finaly, something MS is not last in:

The BEA says Texas ranked 51st in its benefits package for the average public worker at $10,760 a year. That is, however, considerably more than the $9,190 the average private employee receives in benefits in Texas, according to the BEA.

OK, apparently TX does have a net creation of jobs ( i was wrong about that).

However, they apparently have a Net created jobs number of 126,000? 70,000 of those are reportedly gummint jobs [Roll Eyes]

while this net job increase was going on? the labor foirce expanded by 437,000 due to people relocting (immigrating?) in Texas which is why their unemployment rate remains high...

how could they afford that? you guessed it, the so-called Obama stimulus plan, which Perry openly critisized and even *seemed* to be inclined to secession rather than accept, but took anyway [Smile]

the stimulus plan did save the country from falling into a real Depression. However, we are still in danger of falling into one because the stimulus was not big enough nor was it sustained long enough.

It seems obvious to me now that certain element in American politics are determined to "bring it on" and they will succeed. It's always easier to destroy than it is to create.
