Iron sights for CQB (close quarters combat), and then a nice rail system to add all my accessories. Being 7.62 and highly accurate I would spend most my time in the country or rural areas which I will have a nice optic for long range targeting. See ya in the woods.

I will take one of these below, watch a little TV and feel fairly safe from any small arms fire and move along pretty quick if i don't like the area i am in.
Probably will be quite a few around when we have to shut down the wars for lack of money... we can only hope

Do not think i"ll need it in So.Cal at the beach but will come in handy during the winter months if i head up to Big Bear.
Could have use it at Ft. Carson in the sixties when we had to do those stupid manuvers in the middle of winter, the artic gear they gave us back then didn't cut it very well in my opinion.
Use to freeze to death, had to drink a little and let it act like antifreeze while on the camp outs.

If I had to bug out and leave my home, there is no way I would leave with only one weapon...
If I had to leave...
I would be carrying a Remington 870 Tactical 12 ga with an extended mag tube, a S&W M&P Pro in 9mm with 4 18 round clips, and an AR-15 with 30 round mags.
For home defense...
The first gun I would grab would be the 870 loaded with 00 buck.
If I HAD to leave and I HAD only one choice it would be a clean AR-15 with lots of 30 round mags...

ar-15 is my second choice. i have the national match 20" HBar- if i had the 16" standard it would be my fisrt, but that thing gets heavy after totin'itawhile---
i suppose that when you consider how many 223 rounds versus 12 g.shells you can carry for the same wieght, you even up at around 100 rds and the weight would favor the AR even withe hheavy barrel at 150.... where you carry the weight does matter when you start getting old and crusty like me tho
any particualr reason you favor the pump over the semi-auto? the only time i've ever had a jam is when i shot more than 3 boxes of low brass.....
AR chambered to 7.62 is a nice setup too....

Yes...I prefer the 870 over the 11-87 for reliability and option choices
Both are good guns and I own both, I just find that a pump is less apt to jam and you can get loads of options for the 870...
My 870 is setup with a Wilson Combat extended mag tube along with a TacStar side saddle that will hold 6 more. It has the Blackhawk Specops adjustable stock with a Houge grip, picatinney rail with ghost ring sights, breach choke, CAA front rail forend with an FAB vertical grip and a Streamlight TLR-1 rail mounted flashlight with strobe

Have you all been following this gun scandal that has Eric holder sweating bullets? haha funnny pun right?
Anyway, what a real sloppy mess. Sending guns across the border in order to try to track them, and then they couldnt track them and now a ton of cartel thugs are running around with weapons the government let run lose across the border.

Kind of curious though. Noone has mentioned the AK variants. I've read that they are the ultimate 'mud guns' due to being low maintenance. Any particular reason that anyone has not to have\take one?

Don't like those Russian Guns.
If we start with the guns what's next? they might become the next China with more exporting, taking over our economy.

I heard a story a while back about cocaine being smuggled in on CIA planes under the Clinton administration. You ever hear about that?

i don't caremuch for stamped out metal parts no matter how much you dress them up..
ak's are disposable, the barrel on that thang is either a heavy barrel which really doesn't make much sense for a tactical close in gun, w the accessory rails would imply it is close tactical weapon, so it is prolly semi-sound suppressed. i say semi cuz there is no such thing as truly suppressed assault rifle without using specially loaded subsonic rounds... subsonics defeat the purpose in most assault applications- they do have use for very close in ops but a 9mm or a 22or22rim-mag is more useful and truly suppressable within operating parameters in those ops...
it's a cute toy that doesn't make sesne from tool point of view....
