I know nothing except for the fact that it's ridiculously expensive and I need a tear off and re-roof job done before winter sets in. On two of the quotes I've received so far the contractors would be using Owens Corning Duration series shingles.
Anyone know if they're any good? Researching them on the net has turned up both good and bad.

Up...whatever brand you decide on, use a 40yr architectural shingle and be sure that they put water/ice shield 6 feet up on the eaves and in any and all valleys. Proper installation is more critical than the brand of shingle you use
FWIW...I just re-roofed mine with GAF Timberline

I know nothing about roofing but I know multiple places where a 30 yr roof started leaking in less than five due to inept contractors on the install.
Pay for quality work. It's worth it.
Or you could go for steel roofing. Weather-tight, lasts for decades, maintenance free, energy efficient.

i have an authentic southernstyle tin roof on my workshop...
i have to go up there every 3 monnths and paint and caulk and replace loos nails with tek screws..
i do notice some of our new construction around here has the new steel roofs that BF mentioned and they can look good... i would avoid any color like grey tho cuz then people will think you're a hillbilly like me...
