The Census Director has sent a letter to the National Headquarters of ACORN notifying the group that it will no longer have a role in conducting the 2010 census. ACORN had previously been tapped to help with low level data gathering.
"Over the last several months, through ongoing communication with our regional offices, it is clear that ACORN's affiliation with the 2010 Census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 Census efforts," read a letter from Census Director Robert M. Groves to the president of ACORN.
"Unfortunately, we no longer have confidence that our national partnership agreement is being effectively managed through your many local offices. For the reasons stated, we therefore have decided to terminate the partnership," the letter said.

Nothing like a salacious sex story to send em running. Whatever, I am tired of Acorn. But did they really not see this coming when they hire so many low income people to canvas and run offices? Of course there are gonna be some like that. I live in a small -quiet and safe- city and I still get solicited every month or so as I am walking home at night.

Maybe if you were driving your Honda they wouldn't even bother to ask?

Later Monday, the Senate voted 83-7 to block the Housing and Urban Development Department from giving grants to ACORN, meaning the organization would not be able to win HUD grants for programs such as counseling low-income people on how to get mortgages and for fair housing education and outreach.Posts: 1802 | From: Utah | Registered: Mar 2008

"We're bringing these girls from overseas, but we are going to take a cut of the profit and intend to use the profit from the tricks the girls perform to fund my political campaign and the advertising," O'Keefe tells Kaelke, adding that it'll fund at least 50 percent of his planned run as a Democratic congressional candidate.
Kaelke, who told the couple that she once worked as a paid escort herself, at one point admits she was unqualified to counsel but stops well short of reporting O'Keefe and Giles to authorities.
"You know you are breaking the law if you have these girls in your care and they're minors," Kaelke said on the videotape, which was provided by O'Keefe and can be viewed on BigGovernment.com. " … If I didn't know better, and I don't, but I would think this is a total setup."
ACORN issued a statement Tueday evening saying that Kaelke, indeed, suspected she was being set up and only responded as she did to play along with the obviously fake pimp and prostitute.
"She matched their false scenario with her own false scenarios," ACORN said in its written statement.
how many attempts did this couple make to get their four videos?
100? i wonder if they broke any laws doing it?
i for one am totally releived that poor people will no be longer be able to find counseling on how to get mortgages and for fair housing education and outreach. from a bunch of idiots. this must be stopped immediately.

BTW? the video people may have broken MD law.
the same law that Monica's Linda Tripp broke when she recorded their conversations without her knowledge...
Indictment by the State of Maryland
Tripp was a resident of Columbia, Maryland at the time she made her surreptitious recordings of the conversations with Lewinsky, and after 49 Democrats in the Maryland Legislature signed a letter to the state prosecutor demanding that Tripp be prosecuted, she was charged by state authorities with violating Maryland's wiretap law.[8] Prior to trial, the state court ruled that, due to the immunity agreements which the Independent Counsel's office entered into with Tripp, Lewinsky, and others, a substantial amount of the evidence which the prosecution intended to use was inadmissible. At a pre-trial hearing the prosecution called Lewinsky as a witness to try to establish that her testimony against Tripp was untainted by the Independent Counsel investigation. However, the Maryland state court ruled that Lewinsky, who "admitted that she lied under oath in a federal proceeding and has stated that lying has been a part of her life," was not credible and Lewinsky's proposed testimony against Tripp was "bathed in impermissible taint." As a result, all charges against Tripp were dismissed on May 26, 2000 when the prosecution decided not to proceed with the trial of the case
Under the Maryland Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Act ("Maryland's Wiretap Act" or "the Act"), it is unlawful for any person to willfully intercept any wire, oral, or electronic communication. "Intercept" means the aural or other acquisition of the contents of any wire, electronic, or oral communication through the use of any electronic, mechanical, or other device.

I believe I read in the original article when the story first came out, that any video or recordings of that nature were inadmissable in a court of law. And also in that article, it said they tried the same stunt at numerous other ACORN sites across the country. Just ridiculous. But I am in no way excusing the ignorance of those on the tape either. But the whole thing is ridiculous...on both sides IMO.

ACORN Vows to 'Review' Operations as New Undercover Footage Released
The filmmakers, in conjunction with BigGovernment.com, released a fifth video Wednesday night that they say was filmed at a San Diego office of ACORN.
The latest video — barely a minute long, much shorter than the others — shows the "pimp" and "prostitute" asking a man identified as an ACORN worker for help with their prostitution business. The man seems to offer help in trafficking underage girls through his connections in Tijuana.
....
In the latest video, O'Keefe asks the man if Tijuana is the best place to bring the girls to cross over into the U.S.
The man replies "yes," because he has a lot of contacts there who can assist in bringing them across the border.
....
ACORN initially accused the filmmakers and FOX News of a smear campaign, but on Wednesday, ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis acknowledged "the indefensible action of a handful of our employees" and pledged to reform the organization.Posts: 1802 | From: Utah | Registered: Mar 2008

Computers, Hard Drives Seized at ACORN's New Orleans Office
Investigators for the Louisiana Attorney General executed a search warrant Friday at ACORN's New Orleans office in connections to allegations of embezzlement and tax fraud.
Spokeswoman Tammi Arender Herring said the search warrant was executed shortly after 9 a.m. and resulted in the seizure of computers, hard drives and documents.
"It is quite a bit of stuff," Herring said, adding that ACORN officials were "extremely cooperative."
The search warrant follows the removal of computers and other items by two unidentified former ACORN employees when they left the organization, according to ACORN attorneys.
Assistant Attorney General David Caldwell said the original allegations of embezzlement were made last year by ACORN board members who were terminated after asking for an examination of the activist group's books.
ACORN fired its longtime director of its Louisiana chapter last month, citing a lack of accountability.
Pamela Marple, an attorney for ACORN, acknowledged that the community activist group has been cooperating with a variety of governmental agencies in the past two months.
"The AG's inquiry came in the form of a subpoena, which was issued in October and which requested virtually every document in the possession of ACORN and any related entity," Marple said in a statement issued to FoxNews.com. "ACORN was working diligently with the AG’s office to understand the request and respond in a realistic manner, particularly because the subpoena requested well over a million documents."
ACORN has been assured the computers will be returned shortly, Marple said.
