Obama Snubs Nation's Heroes, Becomes the First President to Skip Ball Honoring Medal of Honor Recipients in Over 50 Years

Submitted by Julie on January 21, 2009 - 10:13pm.

2008 News Politics U.S. Government U.S. Politics World Politics

Barack Obama may have stumbled over his words briefly during his inauguration, but he made an even bigger blunder later Tuesday evening. The newly sworn-in President opted not to appear at what should have been one of the most important Balls on his agenda that evening - "The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball."

The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball was begun in 1953 for President Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration. The event recognized recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award. There were 48 Medal of Honor recipients in attendance, who were undoubtedly disappointed by the new Commander-in-Chief's failure to show. Over the past 56 years and 14 inaugurations, no President has skipped this event - until now.

The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball is sponsored by the American Legion, and co-sponsored by 13 other veteran's service organizations, including those such as the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Instead of attending this ball honoring our nation's heroes, Obama was busy making stops at 10 other official balls. Obama and his wife's first stop was at the Neighborhood Ball. From there they went to the Home State Ball for Illinois and Hawaii, the Commander-in-Chief Ball, the Youth Inaugural Ball, and the Home State Ball for Delaware and Pennsylvania. They finished off the night with brief appearances at the Mid-Atlantic, Western, Midwest, Eastern, and Southern regional Balls.

Celebrities were a plenty at the balls, with Stevie Wonder, Shakira, Mary. J. Blige, Faith Hill, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, will.i.am, Sting, Mariah Carey, and Leonardo DiCaprio in attendance at the Neighborhood Ball. In addition, the other nine balls also featured a star-studded lineup including Kanye West and Kid Rock at the Youth Ball, Marc Anthony at the Western Ball, and Cheryl Crow at the Western Ball.

It was the party without all of the celebrities that Obama skipped. The very people who he sought to have support him during his candidacy and campaign, who have fought to protect this country, were snubbed in favor of publicity and the opportunity to rub shoulders - yet again - with the out-of-touch Hollywood elite!

Who cares?

Obama went to 12 of the events that night. I'm sorry to have to tell you, but "The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball." IS NOT (the) most important (of those) Balls". It is not even close to the most important.

Mind if I ask why you feel this ball is not important? I understand the logistics made it unattenable but why would you feel it so unimportant.

First, you must understand bdgees political position to see why that ball is of no significance to him. To some, its all "whats in it for me" instead of serving others.

Now, Ace of course dealing with the worst economic crisis is important, but isnt that what he has been dealing with all day EVERY DAY since being in office?? Did he not just basically get a blank check from the American taxpayers? You know...spendulus?

"Mind if I ask why you feel this ball is not important? I understand the logistics made it unattenable but why would you feel it so unimportant."

A better question for you. Specifically, what possible importance is it to the Nation?

It and nothing about it will have any effect on any action that is important to the welfare of the people or to the Nation's security or wealth.

"First, you must understand bdgees political position to see why that ball is of no significance to him. To some, its all "whats in it for me" instead of serving others."

You are a jerk as well as an idiot. You have no hope of understanding me or what I believe and don't, because I am not afflicted to far right-wing bumper sticker mentality, to which you are confined.

You damned narrow minded right-wingers have so abused the idea of patriotism with your cheap attacks on genuine heroes like Gore and Cleland and your artificial self serving demand that Obama wear a flag pen that everything you say carries with it the sickening stink of Party first politics and nothing else.

Genuine hero? For what, pretending to invent the internet or for scamming the ignorant on global warming?

First of all, Gore never claimed to have invented the internet. That is a crude contrived lie of the leader of the republican party, Fat Rush, the Doper.

What Gore did was admit to having "sort of invented that", which was a reference to the popular description of the internet with the terminology "The Information Super Highway". In fact, that description of the internet is, indeed, due to Al Gore and that is the description he carried the fight through Congress to fully fund the internet.

As those with the actual knowledge of the history of the internet do know however, the internet came about as the melding of certain communication pathways that had been set up between National Research Laboratory facilities and some of the Nations major research universities. Funding for those communication pathways was via a Congressional committee chaired by none other than Al Gore.

Without the hard work and dedication of Al Gore to scientific knowledge and its communication, there very well could have never been an internet.

Gore is a genuine hero to the whole world, save a few far right-wing retarded jackasses, like you, that refuse to or can't see the nose in front of their faces....or both.

you know what's funny? my grandfather told me that in the 70's too...

last time i checked? i can still make as much money as i'm willing to work for.

you guys calling this socialism have it all wrong, we're actually becoming a welfare state:

A model in which the state assumes primary responsibility for the welfare of its citizens. This responsibility in theory ought to be comprehensive, because all aspects of welfare are considered and universally applied to citizens as a "right". Welfare state can also mean the creation of a "safety net" of minimum standards of varying forms of welfare. Here is found some confusion between a "welfare state" and a "welfare society" in common debate about the definition of the term.

the Russians topple their government every 20 - 40 years...

that don't sound too healthy for the kids either...

there seems to be some correlation between war and the development of the welfare state, but that's not possible cuzz liberals are anti-war and pro-welfare while conservatives are pro-war and anti-welfare... might be a worthy Masters thesis...

of course if people enforced the rules we already have? this wouldn't be happening. but somebody in DOJ got lazy even tho they were collecting a paycheck. no wonder government workers get such a bad...

He was right then too. We were already on the path to socialism in the 70's. What's astounding is the acceleration that has occurred in the past few months.
