GOP faithful unload at McCain-Palin rallies
With election creeping closer, anti-Obama hard-cores get personal

By JONATHAN MARTIN

politico.com

Friday, October 10, 2008

The unmistakable momentum behind Barack Obama’s campaign, combined with worry that John McCain is not doing enough to stop it, is ratcheting up fears and frustrations among conservatives.

And nowhere is this emotion on plainer display than at Republican rallies, where voters this week have shouted out insults at the mention of Obama, pleaded with McCain to get more aggressive with the Democrat and generally demonstrated the sort of visceral anger and unease that reflects a party on the precipice of panic.

http://www.ajc.com/news/content/news/stories/2008/10/10/mccain_obama_personal_at tacks.html

this is getting ugly....

Terrorist!” one man screamed Monday at a New Mexico rally after McCain voiced the campaign’s new rhetorical staple aimed at raising doubts about the Illinois senator: “Who is the real Barack Obama?”

“He’s a damn liar!” yelled a woman Wednesday in Pennsylvania. “Get him. He’s bad for our country.”

At both stops, there were cries of, “Nobama,” picking up on a phrase that has appeared on yard signs, T-shirts and bumper stickers.

And Thursday, at a campaign town hall in Wisconsin, one Republican brought the crowd to its feet when he used his turn at the microphone to offer a soliloquy so impassioned it made the network news and earned extended play on Rush Limbaugh’s program.

“I’m mad; I’m really mad!” the voter bellowed. “And what’s going to surprise ya, is it’s not the economy — it’s the socialists taking over our country.”

After the crowd settled down he was back at it. “When you have an Obama, Pelosi and the rest of the hooligans up there gonna run this country, we gotta have our head examined!”

Activists outside rallies openly talk about Obama as a terrorist, citing his name and purported ties to Islam in the fashion of the viral e-mails that have rocketed around the Internet for over a year now.

Some of this activity is finding its way into the events, too.

On Thursday, as one man in the audience asked a question about Obama’s associations, the crowd erupted in name-calling.

“Obama Osama!” one woman called out.

And twice this week, local officials have warmed up the crowd by railing against “Barack Hussein Obama.”

Sigh...It even happened today in my neck of the woods. And this is MN. We delayed becoming a state by two years because we didn't want to be a slave state. Now some of us are calling this man an Arab, a terrorist, and a Muslim (all in derogatory hate filled tone) just because he is black.

To have this crap in the country is bad enough. To have it come out of the mouths of my neighbors...I am ashamed.

It isn't because he is black. It is because he isn't republican.

It is the only way the republicans have been taught to play.

Uh huh....

But Ive heard republicans call them all communist and terrorist sympathizers and traitors (and worse). It was, as with Obama, because they were not republicans.

I watched this on that Rachel show tonight. I was just shocked. McCain is on a one way ticket to nowhere. Palin exposure of troopergate is getting intense, and the economy is tanking by the day. Doesnt look like McCain has much of a chance.

I would expect at LEAST 55% to 45% Obama over McCain right now if the election were held.

Considering the tone of the campaign and some rabid followers, for the first time in my life, I have a real fear that there could be civil unrest upon the election of a President. If Obama wins.

Yes, it is shameful.

But the fact is it is only finally coming to a head after the republican party has been infesting their Party first followers to hatred as a fine tooled instrument to use in election politics in particular. It is not new.

If we had had the internet back then, you could have u-tubed Reagan doing exactly the same things we see Palin doing today.

Hate and degrading personal assassination has been the principle weapon of the republican party since at least back in the days of Nixon with his organized White House "Dirty Tricks Squad".

Most republicans today, have never seen an honest election campaign (they pointedly refuse to look or listen to anyone or anything that isn't republican and, therefore, can't and won't believe such a thing as actual love of Country is possible or desirable, so they see honor, integrity, and truth only as weakness and a place to attack and besmirch the name or reputation of non-republicans.

Oye...

He had to do it again today in Iowa. The pastor that spoke before the rally (McCain wasn't there yet) said that non-Christians were praying to their gods Hindu, Budda, Allah for Obama to win. That Christians should pray for McCain to win and that God should defend his reputation because if Obama wins their gonna think that their God is bigger than he is.

He's actually calling GOD out! WTF is going on in this country??? (I know one retired pastor that's gonna burn if he don't get right quick!)

Equal dispensation of criticism here though. While I understand what John Lewis is talking about, he went too far in blaming it on McCain. Palin and McCain's committee might have helped bring it onto the public stage but McCain isn't responsible for the comments these folks are making.

Which would be really, really sad and sociologically upside-down.

I remember walking through the crowds of protesters in D.C. during the days leading up to the invasion of Iraq. They seemed completely earnest and very, very passionate.

Yet, I had neither sympathy nor empathy.

I remember thinking, "Where were you during the stolen elections?"

In that sense, I'd much rather have Obama at the helm, with his calming influence--he manages paternal while McCain oozes patronizing.

I hear you Tex. There is a flip side to this also which is equally troubling. With the polls showing Obama with a double digit lead today, if we see a repeat of the last 2 elections and the shenanigans that went on and McCain somehow pulls out a stunner, there could easily be civil unrest from the other side of the spectrum.

I still think that there are many who say they support Obama but when it comes time to actually pull the lever, I'm not so sure they will vote for him. I won't be trusting exit polling because it could be thrown off by people telling pollsters they voted Obama but didn't. Throw some of the types of tricks that have occurred in the past and who really knows but it doesn't bode well either way.

Where I think things get queer is "How many people will say they voted and didn't?".

There are so many registering that never voted before, but traditionally, many newly registered folks usually don't vote, particularly black ones.

Or just silly?

Why not add to your list that they only want to come here and rape all our teen age virgins, because that will assure their passage into heaven, since truth and reality clearly are not a requirement for your use?

Barack Obama is an arabic name and his documented religion in Indonesia was muslim - now - if that has no significance - so be it - but americans ought to know the truth - and, most muslims hate the usa - what is happening to western europe? saria law is becoming norm?

tm,

If we are at war, other than dubya's blunders and f-ck-ups, of which we must be ashamed, I don't know of it and no one else other than you and your kind seems to either. So how about not using "we" when you proclaim your trash, because "we" of the United States of America aren't included.

I too want Americans to know the truth and it is that you are a crude insulting fool, a problem maker, and a psychological deviate.

Yes, tm, Barak Hissein Obama is an American name.

Also, according to the Constitution we observe here in America, Barak Hissein Obama is also the name of a citizen of America.

Joseph DiMaggio, Nikola Tesla, John Wilkes Booth, Benjamen Franklin, Timothy McVeigh, Adam Smith, Mohamed Ali, Lee Oswald, and Martin van Buren are some other American names.

Some of them were first Italian, English German, Muslim, and other places, but became 100% American in the land of the free and the home of the brave. And almost everyone in that list had at least a grandfather that was not American.

You are a bigot and a pain in the butt. lol

Going along with your theory, Eisenhower is a german name, so therefore his name could mean that he was a Nazi.

"American surnames comprise the surnames found in every country throughout the world, many with differences in spelling not seen in the old country due to the inability of clerks and government officials to record correctly the names given them by unschooled immigrants not familiar with the English, French, German, or Spanish languages currently used in the port of entry or the part of the country where they settled. When an immigrant arriving in America with little knowledge of English gave his name verbally to the officials to whom it sounded odd or unusual, it was written down by them as they heard it, and being thereby "official," it was often accepted by the immigrant himself as a correct American rendering of his name. To say that there are not American names would be wrong; one might on the contrary affirm that there are no unAmerican surnames. All family names in the United States can be and should be classified as "American" names."

Oh so in other words a person has to have a english name to be an american... so that Francis Ford Coppola, M. Night Shyamalan, Paul Sorvino, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Muhammad Ali etc. are not Americans then?
