Ok, I might as well keep playing the game here since it wont stop.

Time to show some of the true colors on BOTH sides. First...one of bdgee's favorites.

Al Gore! What a great man. I mean who else wants to make 100 million dollars off scaremongering?

We truly need to do anything possible to clean up this environment, but if Al really cared that much he would donate ALL that money raised from speaking to cleaning up what he talks about. I am sure he does SOME, but a TRUE crusader would be radical in his help. He would walk the walk and not talk the talk. Now....to the article.

"Gore urges civil disobedience to stop coal plants"

http://www.reuters.com/article/environmentNews/idUSTRE48N7AA20080924?rpc=60

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Nobel Peace Prize winner and environmental crusader Al Gore urged young people on Wednesday to engage in civil disobedience to stop the construction of coal plants without the ability to store carbon.

The former U.S. vice president, whose climate change documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" won an Academy Award, told a philanthropic meeting in New York City that "the world has lost ground to the climate crisis."

"If you're a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants that do not have carbon capture and sequestration," Gore told the Clinton Global Initiative gathering to loud applause.

"I believe for a carbon company to spend money convincing the stock-buying public that the risk from the global climate crisis is not that great represents a form of stock fraud because they are misrepresenting a material fact," he said. "I hope these state attorney generals around the country will take some action on that."

The government says about 28 coal plants are under construction in the United States. Another 20 projects have permits or are near the start of construction.

Scientists say carbon gases from burning fossil fuel for power and transport are a key factor in global warming.

Carbon capture and storage could give coal power an extended lease on life by keeping power plants' greenhouse gas emissions out of the atmosphere and easing climate change.

But no commercial-scale project exists anywhere to demonstrate the technology, partly because it is expected to increase up-front capital costs by an additional 50 percent

So-called geo-sequestration of carbon sees carbon dioxide liquefied and pumped into underground rock layers for long term storage.

That article is not right anyway. The UN said that cow farts were the main cause of global warming. Maybe Al (I invented the internet) Gore should try to keep up!

Vegetarians want you to stop global warming. Don't eat meat means less cow farts! Remember, Ms. Crow says to stop using toilet paper to save trees.

PM... I tried to lay it all out before. At this point, the CAUSE of Global Warming is irrelevant. The FACT is, Global Warming is happening. Let's stop pointing fingers and work together towards a solution, or at least work towards a plan as far as what to do as the Earth continues to warms up.

Lockman, which hole in the ozone layer are you refering to? The one at the North Pole or the one at the South Pole?

Well, actually, the scientists say that global warming stopped about 10 years ago and that they don't expect it for the next 15 years. So, cows farting or not, it's just a BIG HOAX . You don't think Al (I invented the internet) Gore could be pumping that because it's making him rich - do you?

So PM....

If the Earth is not warming, what is making the polar ice caps shrink? Why are all the glaciers melting?

yes, do tell me why in the 80's in my area we used to get like 3 or 4 feet of snow year after year and now in the 2000's were lucky with 1 inch of snow?. You are the expert it appears.

they did not say that global warming stopped..

i posted the abstract of the article here months ago...

they showed that we were in what should be a 10 yr cooling cycle and we aren't cooling, because of the warming... if you aren't cooling when you should be? you are still warming, and when the cooling cycle stops? you are going to go higher than you would have been since you've set a "new baseline"...

Mach,

In all fairness, you can't use a regional climate trend as evidence of a global trend...

Bdgee,

I saw a pretty neat program on the Discovery Channel the other day about the achievements being made in atmospheric carbon capture and storage methods.

I'm just a layman, but from what I saw, many of the methods were showing great promise...

Surfer, when you grow up there are things you will feel and need that you can't yet possibly know enough about to even understand the words used to talk about it.

You see, there are differences in boys and girls mush more basic and important than wearing skirts or pants or having long hair and playing with dolls or cap guns.

When you get to be a man it will..........

If anyone really wants to cry foul about pollution then go down to Mexico border towns. As bad as the pollution is in the U.S. look at CHINA. Anyone remember trying to see the birds nest during the olympics? That was AFTER the plants were shut down days before the event.

NR, unless it is a ball game or news, a whole lot of the time I watch the box, I watch the Discovery Channel.

And I'm pleased to report that almost every time they teach me something new.

Well, new to me, at least. I enjoy learning old stuff too.

Mexico City makes border towns look pristine.

Do you really believe that pollution is bad in the US? The US is MUCH cleaner today that it was several decades ago. How clean do you want it to be? Do you want to get rid of all our cars? Our houses? Electricity? Jobs? Should we go back to the stone age? Or should we just send our money to Al (I invented the internet) Gore for carbon credits?

Mach,

Thank you for recognizing me as THE EXPERT on global warming! I am certainly as qualified on this subject as the wacko environmentalists. Here's a newsflash - the climate is ALWAYS CHANGING and it IS NOT caused by man. The little ice age just ended in the 1800's! Did the people of the early to mid 1800's cause global warming and end the little ice age? The climate change in the past; it's changing now; and it will change in the future. C'mon! Get a grip of reality! Learn to adapt.

the climate is ALWAYS CHANGING and it IS NOT caused by man.

it is NOW. we burn 80 million barrels of oil a day... wake up...

the carbon dioxide from that alone is equivalent to the amazon flow at it highest flood stages...

you cannot see across the mouth of the amazon..

the riverwater can discolor the ocean as much as 200 miles out to sea...

Where in my post did i say it was caused by man? If i said it then quote me. I did say that Global Warming is here regardless of the cause and that we contribute to it's effects. "CONTRIBUTE" and not "CAUSE". What caused it is debatable and no one will agree especially narrow minded right wingers who are always in denial about anything.

What I am also saying is the denial that you and people like you are in. It is obvious that our climates are changing. You do not need to be a scientist or any kind of expert to see it. I already gave the example of NY and the glaciers and such melting. And I am sure everyone else here can give examples from where they live as well as you though you are turning a blind eye to it.

As for the U.S. being clean and such. Yes it is more or less but that doesn't mean we can't improve it more because there is still some pollution regardless. But I will say that if we did what you wanted to like drill for oil, build countless nuclear reactors etc. unchecked without safety measures put in place, we will see a increase in pollution and maybe even environmental disasters that we the taxpayer as well as we as humans will ultimately pay in terms of our health and such.

Afterall would you drive a car without brakes, airbags and other safety features? [Roll Eyes]
