Bush accuses Moscow of bullying

Karen DeYoung in Washington
August 16, 2008

"Bullying and intimidation are not acceptable ways to conduct foreign policy in the 21st century," he said.
Mr Bush also said Russia had damaged its credibility with the West by invading Georgia.

His broadside came after Poland and the United States signed a deal to build a controversial missile defence shield in Eastern Europe, and Mr Gates said Russia's behaviour in Georgia had "called into question the entire premise" of relations between Washington and Moscow.

During the sharpest exchanges yet between the two governments, Mr Gates warned on Thursday that the relationship "could be adversely affected for years to come" if Russian forces stayed in Georgia.

However, he said American involvement would be restricted to humanitarian aid. "I don't see any prospect for the use of military force by the United States in this situation," Mr Gates said. "Is that clear enough?"

All very formal communications.
Displayed are calculated levels of opposition.
This is a non issue as it has been portrayed.

I certainly hope both sides will take on that attitude and go to the table talk, talk, and talk.

If the poop hits the fan and we started to slug it out with Ivan that will be a real war we will need a much bigger and heavier army for them.

I don't know if we have the industrial base to do the job.

How ironic if China was to side with the Russians our own factories would be used against us.

Another republican gift to America.

indeed... we seem to have no troops to rotate, just the Air Force and some of the Navy...

Russia still maintains that it's invasion forces were/are "peacekeepers" in Georgia, but Poland is becoming a different issue, one of retaliation..

the bottom line IMO is how much of a stranglehold can the Russkies put on Europes economy thru the withholding of oil and Nat Gas...

is their goal economic or are they truly looking for battle?

all of this becomes a distraction away from Iran, which is the "reason" we are putting missiles into Poland...

Let's not kid ourselves Glass... those missiles have nothing to do with Iran or very little... it is for defensive purposes from Russia... we just say it's about Iran to cloud it's true intentions..

Once again, it's all about oil, no matter what the head Bear and the head Eagle say.

We need to pull out of Iraq, and put the money we have been wasting there into a full speed head R&D program on finding entirely non-fossil fuel (and non-carbon, wherever possible) techniques that will allow us to ignore the scarcity of oil.

Without that sort of energy independence, China is doomed to replace us in the world's economy and Russia in military matters. It isn't maybe, it is guaranteed.

I can't believe he had the nerve to say that to the American people.

Since when does he respect freedom,or premote it?
