All propaganda to steer an idiot populace towards over-regulation of every facet.
Every market, if free from wicked control, has cycles.
Propagandists use these cycles to cover the 24/7's with fear mongering so the weak minded will freely give up control and self determination.

hmmm... these are not attributable to cycles.

it's theft. how about we throw the thieves in jail instead of bailing them out?
why the bailouts? i'm for letting the chips fall where they may, not bailouts.

reasonable and minimal regulations? you have personal rules of conduct that you hold yourself to... these people DO NOT!

you and i both agree that we have the right to defend our person and our homes from thieves. we have no way to defend ourselves against theft at these levels tho.

Society (as opposed to govt) wants these large financial institutions. We cannot have them without simple rules.

every one of these collapses (since '29) can be attributed to people actually breaking laws. lying, cooking the books whatever you want to call it? it's always attributable to INdecent human behaviour. immoral behaviour.

they throw the book at a token few. and the rest pick up the cash that's being given away buy US taxpayers.

Then, in April 1994, Kidder made a stunning announcement: Mr. Jett's profits were all a fraud. The firm said that, by using an accounting loophole, Mr. Jett manufactured phony bond trading profits totaling $350 million. In truth, Mr. Jett's real trading had lost $100 million, the firm said. The phantom profits not only improved the performance of Mr. Jett's Government trading desk, but brought him a $9 million bonus in 1993. Mr. Jett has denied any wrongdoing

And I would define that to be a myopic view of a systemic problem.
There has always been thieves.
There has always been murderers.
I submit that we are all more capable of defending ourselves against those thieves and murders than we are against this burgeoning empire we call a government.
Are you going to tell me that enron did more damage to our economy than the U.S. government?
Not even close...
Not even the same game.
I fear you are falling for their distraction and missing the real threat.

well. it's designed to be jus' one example of what regulations are supposed to be for, not an argument for more govt "intervention".

Are you going to tell me that enron did more damage to our economy than the U.S. government?

no, i',m proposing that deregulation of certain aspects of our economy was in fact the goal of some large corporate criminal interests. the regulations were originally put into place by people who clearly understood the need for them. we would not even have an electricity grid if the govt hadn't used eminent domain in a huge way to steal almost all of the land to build it. NOW? that land is primarily in the hands of the large corps that have moved themselves back out from under the Govt regs they agreed to in order to be built in the first place.

the govt should never have been allowed to build the infrastructure in the first place? is that your point? where do you start cutting the Govt's power exactly? stop building roads?

we can all go back to living out of our gardens? cuz that's what'll have to happen if you just get rid of most of the US Govt. It's not exactly a bad idea as far as i'm concerned, i'm just wondering if you recognise that's what the eventuality is.

everybody complains about it, but where do you begin trimming?

if you ask me? the govt is made of the same people it's drawn from, but the people up there are just not HONEST.

No I completely understand that will be the result... initially.
And no I do not at all believe the government is made up of people just like us.
These people are all friends of someone.
Just look at the fact that all the presidents except for Nixon were former skulls members.
I don't necessarily believe in all the mumbo jumbo about that group.. but clearly it proves beyond doubt that there is a connection between all of them.
Government can be done better.
It can be done for the people... not TO the people.
I do not suggest we should have no government.
But a totally different government...
And more importantly we need a different mindset for the citizens.
But this is all pointless.
We know nothing will ever change and sooner than later, government will be everywhere at all times and not even a bathroom will allow us the assumption of privacy.
Cow eyed morons will just do as they are told.
The last refuge and best chance for freedom has died.

You actually said it best and what i meant to say with the exception of "over regulation". What everyone seems to forget is that the Gov't tries it the peoples way of no regulation or little regulation but time and time again us humans prove that we can't handle things without regulation. History has shown this. And in reality any Regulation they impose on us in whatever area whether industry or otherwise is always REACTIVE.

Case in point was the laissez-faire attitude Reagan's reign had on big business and the massive Greed that I'm sure you remember was the result of it that ended the 80's with such famous cases like the Milken/Boesky case or the S&L collapse among other examples I'm sure you can give us.

Point taken. I see the result of corporate greed every day here in PA. Abandoned coal mines spewing an acid cocktail that nobody seems to be responsible for, and old strip mines with no trees that are covered with poison ivy and jagger bushes taller than your head.

I doubt this would be the case if many of the strict environmental regulations in place today had been around during PA's coal boom. But as you stated, environmental regulations were reactive, and a direct result of things like acid runoff, etc.

However, although I have no example, I am sure that some in Government have found a way to over-regulate to a point that it benefits them in some way... which, ironically, is probably caused by the same thing, greed.

If we must accept some government regulation for the sake of a healthy, stable and productive society, then the real question is, where is the line between too much regulation and too little?

try being harrassed by them most of your life & even be assaulted by one (cops)because of your race... and even though technically they are on tax payers money and should be working for us they do not see it that way much like politicians...

Religions are like Gov'ts... they try to tell u what to do... kind of ironic you choose one over the other when both do the same thing... Religion is the opiate of the masses... and as for a God... i see no proof he exists so i guess you believe in Bigfoot and other such myths... maybe even the boogeyman in your closet...

As for bosses, i am sure you worked at least 1 job in your life where you were not the boss...

There are people out there who are just happy with any form of authority.
I'm certain there's a name for the condition that Mr quickest google in the delta, Glass will throw out later.
But it is a real condition.
Eager to conform, quick to seek approval, Self righteous because they think they're ass kissing works.
They may or may not actually comprehend the evil carried out by abusive authorities, but due to a deep seeded cowardice they ignore it and continue to praise that same authority as pristine.

Just when you thought you’ve heard it all...

A senior government official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expressed great interest in a so-called safety bracelet that would serve as a stun device, similar to that of a police Taser®. According to this Promotional Video found at the Lamperd Less Lethal website, the bracelet would be worn by all airline passengers.

This bracelet would:

• take the place of an airline boarding pass

• contain personal information about the traveler

• be able to monitor the whereabouts of each passenger and his/her luggage

• shock the wearer on command, completely immobilizing him/her for several minutes

The Electronic ID Bracelet, as it’s referred to as, would be worn by every traveler “until they disembark the flight at their destination.” Yes, you read that correctly. Every airline passenger would be tracked by a government-funded GPS, containing personal, private and confidential information, and that it would shock the customer worse than an electronic dog collar if he/she got out of line?

Clearly the Electronic ID Bracelet is an euphuism for the EMD Safety Bracelet, or at least it has a nefarious hidden ability, thus the term ID Bracelet is ambiguous at best. EMD stands for Electro-Musclar Disruption. Again, according to the promotional video the bracelet can completely immobilize the wearer for several minutes.

So is the government really that interested in this bracelet? Yes!

According to a letter from DHS official, Paul S. Ruwaldt of the Science and Technology Directorate, office of Research and Development, to the inventor whom he had previously met with, he wrote, “To make it clear, we [the federal government] are interested in…the immobilizing security bracelet, and look forward to receiving a written proposal.” The letterhead, in case you were wondering, came from the DHS office at the William J. Hughes Technical Center at the Atlantic City International Airport, or the Federal Aviation Administration headquarters.

In another part of the letter, Mr. Ruwaldt confirmed, “It is conceivable to envision a use to improve air security, on passenger planes.”

Would every paying airline passenger flying on a commercial airplane be mandated to wear one of these devices? I cringe at the thought. Not only could it be used as a physical restraining device, but also as a method of interrogation, according to the same aforementioned letter from Mr. Ruwaldt.

Would you let them put one of those on your wrist? Would you allow the airline employees, which would be mandated by the government, to place such a bracelet on any member of your family?

Why are tax dollars being spent on something like this? Is this a police state or is it America?

As we approach July 4th, Independence Day, I can’t help but think of the blessing we have of living in America and being free from hostile government forces. It calls to mind one of my favorite speeches given by an American Founding Forefather, Patrick Henry, who said,

“Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”
