lol * peenis being censored

that is a bit strange in our culture, but in their culture it's probably the most normal thing. My American friends tell me it's strange that we eat rabbit, and horse steak. And snails and eels. Are there foods in America that are eaten locally but are frowned upon in the rest of the country? I'm curious

The reason to eat bull peenis is the same to a point of having powdered deer peenis. It is just like herbs.Sushi is thought to be nasty to some but it is my food of choice if I had to choose just one.Ever hear of rocky mountain oysters? Or bull testicles,is served in some parts of the country..I never tried it but have found it in some parts of the USA.

calf fries, not bull--bulls are bulls cuz they *weren't* castrated.

Americans eat rabbit...less nowadays than in the past. Was a staple during the Depression; my Dad raised chickens and rabbits then... We don't eat horse, and when immigrants steal our dogs to eat them, it's not received well... In other parts of the country, they serve BBQ'd, pulled pork and put cole slaw *on* the sandwich, thereby ruining a perfectly fine BBQ sandwich...

i like vinegar based BBQ sauce. Stubbs is a really good off the shelf sauce if you do off-the shelf sauce.. it's not sweet, and if you add a little apple cider vinegar it tastes about as good as homemade...

at one time i bought a dozen breeder rabbits...

pretty soon i had a hundred...

rabbit picardi is one of the best meals you can eat, but my experience was that people wanted to burn the rabbit to a crisp and then complain because it was tougher than a five year-old rooster... gotta cook it at a low temp and cook it sloooow....

the invention of the fridgelater is why people stopped eating rabbit. rabbit was fed and watered till it was time to eat it instead of being kept in the fridge

Yep...

Chickens too. Today you have to pay 5 times the price for what they call "free range" chickens, which means they get to use their legs and get to to eat bugs and wild seeds of all sorts, even those they pick outta the cow poop.

we bought chickens to eat the ticks... it worked... but we still bought pullets at the grocery cuz they are tender [Smile]

there is a "sweet" BBQ sauce that i like.

it's Korean, and it's real easy...

buy some thin sliced ribs cut across the bone.

sprinkle sugar all over them. don't be shy.
then sprinkle soy sauce all over that, but just enough to get the sugar wet, and a little extra.

let it set for 30 to 45 minutes.

get your grill blazing hot and throw them on so they sizzle. You want the sugar to carmelise, but not burn. They cook quick, and they go great with jasmine rice.

this works well on these "new" skirt steaks they are selling as "flat iron" steaks now too, but you have to close your grill for a few minutes to get the heat deeper into the meat.

also? all soy sauces are not created equal.... go to the korean or Japanese store for the best. tell them what you want to do. the best ones? i can't read the label [Wink]

Funny though, in Hawaii there are wild chickens everywhere and supposedly the are ****e to eat because their diets consist of nothing but bugs and worms, free range indeed.

Yeah, yeah, but what can be said for the culinary bent of a people that consider Spam THE supreme delicacy?

poi, not spam.... they do eat spam, but poi is their supreme delicacy. JK..

we used to get paid 50$ a pint to collect opihi from the rocks at the waterline when i was there. it's dangerous work, but they are like tiny abalones, which are one of the highly prized Japanese treats...

i rate Abalone up there too, but i've never tasted the 100$ per bite bluefin... "white tuna" is pretty good too, but it's not a good idea to eat too much, and it was actually banned as sashimi in Japan for awhile. i don't know if it still is or not...

that's different from Fugu, which i've never tried cuz it was never available where/when i was... it isn't something i would go out of my way to try, but i'd prolly try it if i was in the right place at the right time...

i may have eaten the high grade bluefin once and not known it: i went to a sushi restaurant in Kagashima once, and ordered the live prawn. they slice it up like the beni-hanna knife show and you eat it while it's still moving.. i was the only Gaijin in the place and there were probably 300 people there. some of the other guests started sending food to my table to try and i must have eaten for an hour and half or two non-stop, and then they picked up my tab... wonderful evening... i think they liked my chopstick technique, i had no way to tell them that i had first used chopsticks when i was 8....

Be honest now, have you ever eaten a fried spamwich with cheese and a slice of pineapple, I can see why it is considered a delicacy [Big Grin]

", have you ever eaten a fried spamwich with cheese and a slice of pineapple"

Yes. As a struggling student I had that more than once or twice, because I couldn't afford real or proper human food. It's semi-palatable when smothered under a pile of candies apples too, but just.

"I can see why it is considered a delicacy"

Ok, so you have questionable taste too.

when i was in the PI, i tried one balut, it tasted OK, like crab meat, but i couldn't get the duckling picture out of my mind. newly hatched ducklings have to be some of the cutest critters on earth...

i had a neighbor who was SEAL when i lived in SE Va that would drop by and eat whatever i had in the incubator that was half-way developed.. pheasant, chicken (game cocks) guinea hen, turkey or sometimes a duck egg...

he especially liked to do it if i had other company, just to shock them and he would literally eat them right out of the incubator. then he would jump in his jeep and tear up my driveway on his way out.. what a character.. he was Giajin too... of Swedish descent...

speaking of swedes? i have an uncle from Minnesota that eats (and tries to share [Wink] ) something he calls lutefisk...
it's sort of like jellied fish spam.... it's prolly made the same as spam only htey start with fish instead of "pork?" [Eek!]

MMMMMMM. lutefisk, used to be on every Christmas dinner table when my Gandma was still alive. Smother it in butter and pepper..... and it still tastes like crap.

"Ok, so you have questionable taste too"

I used to live off of Ramen noodles while I was single, tough to beat 19 cents a pack.

Yes, I see the difficulty now. That certainly might bring about unwitting culinary dementia.

i eat cup-a-noodles for brunch most days..

it gets my salt levels back up (low blood pressure is actually a sign of death) and easy to use empty carbs that don't make you sleepy while digesting them..
