US General Accuses Iran of Seeking to Fight 'Proxy War' in Iraq By VOA News 10 September 2007
The Wall Street Journal newspaper today reports the U.S. military is preparing to build its first base for American forces in Iraq near the border with Iran -- in an effort to stop the alleged weapons flow from Iran.
The report says the new base will have living quarters for at least 200 soldiers, and will be about six-and-one-half kilometers from the Iranian border.
this should have been completed two years ago, and on a much larger scale...
whenever we we leave? Iraq has to be able to defend itself...

i "knew" (in my gut) we were never leaving when we invaded...
the oil is too valuable...
the screwed up thing about it is that IMO Bush's and Rumsfelds policies have created the reason to stay, and not vice versa..
tomorrow Bush will announce a huge troop withdrawal bringing us back to pre-surge levels and he'll pat hisself on the back for being so ingenious and smart ....

What is so hard about that?
that sounds the like the Democrats plan to me
then oil would be cheap again, and the oil co's profits would drop....

BAGHDAD (AP) -- The Iraqi government said Monday that it was revoking the license of an American security firm accused of involvement in the deaths of eight civilians in a firefight that followed a car bomb explosion near a State Department motorcade
Underscoring the seriousness of the matter, the State Department said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice planned to call Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to express regret and assure him that the U.S. has launched an investigation into the matter to ensure nothing like it happens again.
how far the White House goes in trying to restore them back into theatre could make things very complicated...
my "take" on the military guys is that they don't care too much for the paid mercs...
if Bush tries too hard to intervene on behalf of Blackwater? he'll be alienating our troops and the iraqis... so i expect he'll do it since he seems to alienate everybody he meets..

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20921619/ Looks like someone shot a video of the event... And apparently it shows blackwater folks firing first. Don't know anything about the reliability of the tape or even what it shows...
