i quit (again) LOL...

no wonder it's been harder this time..

US Cigarettes Have 10% More Nicotine Today Than Six Years Ago

All tobacco brands have been increasing the nicotine dosage in each cigarette steadily during the last six years, says a report from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The overall increase has been about 10% during 1998-2004. The higher the nicotine dose, the more hooked you get - it is much more difficult to quit.
Marlboro, the most popular brand, has been steadily raising the dosage in each cigarette. Kool, a popular menthol brand, has had its nicotine dose increased by 20% in six years. Over 60% of African-American smokers consume menthol brands.

lol, I just started back a month ago. Finals were getting to me and I decided I'd wait till I was through with the nursing program.

It is nasty and costly. I feel like I have no right lecturing folks to quit for their health when I'm ruining mine.

Nice start glassman and congrats.

Nice article. I smoke marlboro myself. Military got me started.

We should get compensated for the manufacturers intentionally raising the nicotine to keep us addicted!

The Bible says "the body is the temple of god" We should keep it holy...that's what led me to quit many bad habits, including New Port 100's.

You're right God's origianl diet for man was fruits, veggies, and raw nuts. There's a story from the book Daniel...

The Story: Daniel 1:1-21

When King Nebuchadnezzar besieged the city of Jerusalem, thousands of Jews were taken away captive to Babylon. The king instructed his servant, Ashpenaz, to select gifted young men from among the Jewish captives who would come to the palace for three years to learn the language and wisdom of Babylon so they could serve the king.

Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah caught the attention of Ashpenaz and were taken to the king's palace. But there was a problem. The menu of rich meat and wine appointed for the young men contained many items forbidden by God's Word.

Without wanting to appear ungrateful, Daniel asked if he and his three friends could be given a vegetarian diet to eat and water to drink. At first the king's servant resisted their request. "You can't stay healthy by eating like that!" he exclaimed. "You'd get sick, and then the king would have my head." But Daniel gently persisted, suggesting a trial period of 10 days, after which their visible health could be compared with the young men who ate from the royal cafeteria.

This plan was agreed upon, and for 10 days the four young Hebrews drank water and ate a simple vegetarian diet. At the end of the trial period, Daniel and his three friends "appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat." Daniel 1:15.

Three years later, these four young men were tested by King Nebuchadnezzar, and it was declared they were 10 times brighter then all the wise men in Babylon. The Bible tells us that Daniel lived to be approximately 100 years old. What helped give Daniel and his friends such profound wisdom, health, and long life?

Another interesting fact is God first allowed meat after the Great Flood, which is when Man's Life Expectancy dropped dramatically.

I've tried many, many times myself. The only time it lasted the longest I used blow pops. As silly as it sounds it provides the same physical behavior (hand to mouth), the oral thing, and it keeps you busy long enough to distract you from wanting the cigarette.

yep...
i like the lozenges best, pop two or three 4 mg ones and bite down... much better than the four patches, one on each temple and one on each jugular [Big Grin] JK...

they help alot...

what burns me up is that the govt has taken the tobacco co's to court and won, and then basically done nothing to make the alternatives cheaper...

IMO? the patches and gum and lozenges should be subsidized by the tobacco co's

I think the only thing that works, is will power.

You have to have a good enough reason to quit. Which there are many. Also Just thought that somebody is getting rich off of me, just so I can fill my lungs with smoke, pretty much makeing me their B#tch, is good enough of a reason for me not to smoke.

CashCowMoo. Just had to reply to what you just said. And also about glassman and government funding. You starting smoking in Iraq. Guess what, when I was 18, three weeks out of High School, they snatched my young a-- up, sent me to Viet Nam, and the government was so kind to us that they furnished free cigs. To keep the habit going, they were 10 cents a pack at the BX. It is my understanding now that the young men/women in our most current war are getting hooked on nicotine. What ashame.

I'm a smoker...have been for a long time. (Not Tex long... [Smile] but still) I can quit for 6 months or so at a time but all it takes is one weak night at the bar or the poker table and I'm hooked again. Health reasons just ain't good enough of a reason. They aren't compelling.

It makes no sense to me to be afraid of death. Death is the state of unbeing. It is nothing...why be afraid of very *literally* nothing.

If you are a religious man believe that God won't let you go until he is done with you and remember that Christ will dwell in the lowliest temple should it be dedicated to him. (good thing too or we'd all be screwed smoking or no.)

If you aren't a religious man then come to terms that as much as we control our environment(however poorly) our lives are completely uncontrolable by us. Do not mourn the dead for they are undone. As well mourn the child that has yet to be conceived. Instead mourn your selfish loss of one you cared for. No shame there. And no reason to fear either.

Personal opinions.

Thanks for the Verse. That actually has nothing to do with food. At first Peter didn't understand either. You have to read the whole story.

If you read on What god meant was that he even accepts the repentence of gentiles.

4Peter began and explained everything to them precisely as it had happened: 5"I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. 6I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air. 7Then I heard a voice telling me, 'Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.'

8"I replied, 'Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.'

9"The voice spoke from heaven a second time, 'Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.' 10This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.

11"Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying. 12The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man's house. 13He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, 'Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. 14He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.'

15"As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. 16Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized with[a]water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' 17So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?"

18When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, "So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life."

For those who wish they could quit smoking but have not been successful, ask your doctors about a medication called Zyban.

LOL jim,

Ya ever fall asleep with a fresh patch on? Whoa!!! Now those are crazy-as* dreams! It's like brain candy for your subconscious self.

You don't sleep well and I've heard it isn't good for you so I wouldn't suggest doing it on purpose though.

Hey tigress, enjoy your stars...looked over your past posts and decided you deserved em. Stop by more often and say hi...the board needs people who can stick to the facts.

$4.55 a pack, but if you buy the promaotional buy 2 get one free packages they are $5.40 a pack. Doesn't make any sense I know, probably because each pack costs the manufacturer $1.70 to make or something like that.
