At issue is the question: how do we grow closer to God? You see the preacher is pointing to the problem of all human endeavors when it comes to salvation: we cannot save ourselves. Ultimately 10:19-25: Therefore, my friends, since we have Confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (NRSV)
You ever notice, I ask “what is the claim of this text?” in my sermons and teaching? This is one of those moments for the preacher of Hebrews. Up to this point in the last several weeks we have been studying who Christ is and at this point we have come to the answer to the “So What?” question.

Most likely Semitic in origin, which means somewhat Central Mediterranean looking, though given his ancestry, it is possible some African pigmentation is possible. With these two possibilities, similar to those in the Fertile Crescent today.

I tried to get closer to God last week, prayed for a walleye. 5 minutes later my wife caught one. Maybe I wasn't specific enough in my humble request?

"griffon... we've been really really nice..."
No you haven't, but that's okay, that was the point of last week's apology on my part, we've all been acting self-righteous and hot under the collar and I tried to de-escalate beginning last Sunday. Have I gone anywhere outside my own threads except for one about restaraunts and the other about hobbies? I acknowledged my short-comings and presented in an effort to keep to myself and answer two friend's request. Now we have stuff being said I am under advisement not to discuss.

there have been some very WISE people advising you to cease and desist here...
you have left a "trail of breadcrumbs" a mile wide...
i don't know how your bosses would appraise the whole of your postings here, and i don't care... they don't know yet..as far as i know
i have nothing to lose by making them fully aware... they will know exactly who you are without any help from us.. all they need to do is be "encouraged" enough to come here and see....
do you understand the predicament?

quote:Originally posted by jordanreed: what color was jesus?
He was most likely a dark-skinned, physically fit Hebrew. He was a carpenter who did hard physical labor in the sun. He also fasted and probably had very little body fat. We can only go by the Bible...
"He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him..."(Isaiah 53:2-5)
"His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters." (Rev. 1:14 and 1:15)
"His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude." (Daniel 10:6)
This is one view I read about his hair...
The apostle Paul actually saw Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 9:1). Paul, a trustworthy man who wrote a large part of the New Testament, knew exactly what The Lord looked like. In 1 Corinthians 11:14, Paul wrote, "if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him." It's quite unthinkable that Paul would have made such a statement if Jesus Christ had long hair. How could anything about The Lord be called disgraceful?
