The research was supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Forest Service and the California Energy Commission.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060706/ap_on_sc/climate_fires_1

" "The increase in large wildfires appears to be another part of a chain of reactions to climate warming," said Dan Cayan, a co-author of the paper and director of the climate research division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

He said that while part of the increase may be attributed to natural fluctuations, evidence also links it to the effects of human-induced climate warming."

"I see this as one of the first big indicators of climate change impacts in the continental United States," said research team member Thomas Swetnam, director of the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research at the University of Arizona in Tucson. "We're showing warming and earlier springs tying in with large forest fire frequencies."

"Lots of people think climate change and the ecological responses are 50 to 100 years away. But it's not 50 to 100 years away — it's happening now...."

The climate is changing.. no doubt about it.
Sadly I think there are quite a few different factors involved.
It's been noted that our sun has been acting peculiar recently, and that other planets have noticed climatic changes recently..
Add to that the fact that the earth's magnetic field seems to be reversing poles.. or about to anyway...
Add to that our own ingredient in the form of the cars we drive and the fuels we burn..
Not a pretty picture really.

But we are NOT talking about all that other stuff that is beyond the influence of man! We are talking ONLY of the effects to the climate induced by man. Get over the political desire to appeal to the great right wing uneducated base and face facts.

No deals with you, since you keep misrepresenting what I say. To accept your "offer" would be accepting your misrepresentation of what I have said. I can't help it if you have not gotten the background to understand global warmiong is a serious concern and is not part of some other natural phenominon. And I will not allow your ignorance of that to limit what are the facts as simply being only undercurrents in a bigger and more natural ovewhelming pattern.

Good God, man, once the whole surface of the earth was hot enough to melt rock and the time that that was true is vaslty longer than what we have today. With that in mind, all the giberish you claim are the "controling factors" of world climate pale at best and things average out so that humans never evolve. The climate changes! That is no excuse to ignore that we are changing it in such a mnanner that we will no longer be able to survive and we can stop it.

Go scream to your hearts desire to the republican base that Global warming isn't a concern. They will listen, for political reasons and other narrow selfish purposes....they ONLY are loyal to the Party, not to the Country and certainly they feel no obligation or responsibility to civilization. But, even then,to them, you are not telling the truth.....or you are telling a falshood, believing it to be truth, when you aren't qualified to speak as any sort of an authority on the subject.

Amory Lovins [cf Rocky Mountain Institute] has best bottom line on this: doesn't matter whether "global warming" real or if human-caused: it simply makes sense to use appropriate technology.

The Sequoias weren't "always there," anymore than cedars in Texas (junipers, really) were "always" where they are today--or mesquite, for that matter. Why argue meaningless points? As Spock paraphrased Holmes: If a difference makes no difference, there is no difference...

I've bought a lot of land in northern Ontario, another hundred years it should be pretty temperate there, and I'll make a killing on it! I'm always thinking!

Maybe you should stop playing that role if you don't like the results.

You don't have the manners of an un-house broken mongrel. Is it one day going to be possible for you to speak to or of someone without insulting them?

And don't believe I'm the only one here that doesn't appreciate you threatening people. You need to grow up.

Read carefully.. go fetch your tri-foculs..
You started this crap with me first..
I have little tolerance for your griping attitude.
I am having a spirited political debate with friends until you enter and begin insulting me..
If my natural response is to make an accurate assessment of your mental and emotional inabilities.. so be it.. live with it.
You are making every effort your feeble mind can to take anything I say out of context..
This is unwise for a man of your failings.
I am not a dust jointed prune faced has been like you.. I am very much a present mental force and time after time I have asked you to back off... for your own good... please do bdgee
My only desire is to rationally discuss politics and science... Both of which are favorites of yours... drop the emotion.

You seem unable to rationally discuss anything without starting out with insults and name calling. That removes any chance of you being placed amongst the rational discussers.

You do need to stop misrepresenting what I say. What you claim I say is not even similar to what I do say. In some instances, you have declared I said something on a subject I have not spoken of.

And, again, you do need to stop threatening people and stop the insults and name calling.

Learn to respect people and appreciate what they say, even if it isn't what you want to be said, then maybe you would be able to participate in rational discussions. In a conversation, at least part of the time, one listens. In a discussion, you may disagree with a person, but that doesn't warrant attacking the others character, intellect, or good intent as part of the discussion or as a technique to win the "argument", which seems to be your chosen method of response. Opinions are not facts and things claimed to be facts are subject to challenge, because it is a discussion. The purpose of a discussion is to learn, not to win. Certainly it is not to belittle anyone not accepting your viewpoint. You cannot expect people to treat you rationally or respectfully if you can't award that courtesy to them.

I have noticed you see different things than others do. Sometimes you choose to see things that aren't there, sometimes you choose to not see things that are. I have noticed I am not the only one that has noticed that. I have noticed I am not the first to point that out to you. You should not attack people. People do not appreciate that.

Be sort of like amputating the affected member to relieve the resulting sickness, when the problem is a mental malady. Should relieve the complaint.
