Hey folks,

The Bigfoot is looking for a change of pace and thinking of signing on with Edward Jones.

Anyone here work with them or invest?

I'd be interested in in hearing what your opinions are!

My experience with Eddy has been this: hacks. They are like the H & R Block of investing/financial mgt. To me, they are a joke... just a bunch of bottom of the barrel hacks.

Really?!

Hmmm. That's not good.

FORTUNE mag lists them in the top 100 places to work and says they spend major bucks on training and support. I'd of thought they would have a better rep than H&R Block.

Their website focuses a lot on attracting new clients....Do they have "suggestions" to push certain securities that you know of? I'm not interested in that.

Thanks,

The Bigfoot

Any one else have any opinions?

I don't want to jump into something I'll regret later but I do need a change.

I have to admit, I don't understand the point: What would they do for you? Financial planning? Pick stocks?

Oh, Tex. I seem to have missed my point.

I am looking at joining up and working for Edward Jones.

My deal is that they put so much emphasis on contacting twenty five people a day it almost sounds like a weird pyramid scheme.

However they have good press from Fortune magazine and other sources that make them sound like a hands-off, do it your own way, legit company.

I would be building a client base and helping others in their financial planning and investment choices. With the boomers now starting to look toward retirement projections say this area is going to grow rapidly over the next 5 years.

Does that clarify what I'm asking for? I am looking to hear from those that have experience with E.J. to let me know what they think of the company. Jucifer doesn't like em. Do others feel the same way?

Ah...

25 doesn't sound like so much, until you think about a new person, every 20 minutes...8 hours a day, everyday (and that's only 24, lol).

Anyway, good luck with it...

Bigfoot:I had invested with EJ, sold all holdings and went self directed. I don't know that I am doing any better, but had some bad experiences with them, lost money on margin, was put into very conservative funds when told them I needed growth. I feel now, after studying stock buying and selling for a year, that the investment reps were working for their own benefit and it did come to lite in the mutual fund scandal that they were pushing investments they would highly benefit from. Don't get me wrong, they were both very nice gentlemen, low key, interested in taking my funds, but it did end with that as they only looked at my portfolio when I requested. I did learn alot, however, "no one cares for your money as you do".....There is a need for financial planners as the majority of the folks do not have a clue.........My 2cents..

Oh, by the way, I attended several informative luncheons, the majority of the attendees were older widows or single business women. No doubt you could check the obits daily or get mailing lists from D&B....Hope that helps, Bigfoot...

Assuming you go to work for them, what will your advise be when a client calls and says "Mr. Foot, I'm considering investing a large sum of money in micro penny stocks, can you help me out?"

Up,

I'd say "Not a good idea."

I play pennies but I would never suggest someone else do so unless they are ready to burn the money otherwise.

If someone were interested in doing so, first they would have to prove to me that they had all their financial ducks in a row. If they did I'd tell them if they really want to do it, doing pennies though a middle man isn't a smart idea as the market is so jumpy. They would be better off doing pennies independantly and letting me handle their longterm holdings.

BchOus,

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it,

I really want to make sure that the company doesn't push certain things over others. You know what I'm saying.

I'm holding off on EJ for a couple weeks until I hear from a community energy position I put my name in for. Hopefully I'll get that one and then won't have to worry about EJ's policies.

Thanks folks!

The Bigfoot

P.S. I just heard about this private company that has developed a home heating unit that is a super effecient wood stove. Once the unit is installed a truck comes once a week to the house, attaches a hose to a pipe on the exterior of the house and blows wood chips into the holding tank. Then they attach the same hose to a different pipe and suck out all the ash and that's it. Supposedly it is super cheap (once installed) and very low on emmissions! Could be huge someday!

Random addition but I thought it was very cool!
