I would be concerned about pastors spending time on solving global warming when in today's church's the divorce rate is higher than non-church goers, more kids are turning to drugs, more adultery is happening, etc.

They spend a hell of a lot of time preaching voting republican and still, "....in today's church's the divorce rate is higher than non-church goers, more kids are turning to drugs, more adultery is happening, etc." I haven't heard any objection to that. Have we hit on a problem?

I don't know why many churches make people feel like they are not Christians if they don't vote Republican. That is wrong.
There are serious problems in today's churches. No different than the problems in the secular world. My opinions on the reasons why would most likely be ridiculed, so unless anyone is really interested in hearing them, I'll keep them to myself.
It's an undeniable fact that church going families are falling a part. Pastors refuse to address this problem, however, because it makes them look bad. They think more church and more religion is the answer. They think more church programs are the answer. Well, I think they are wrong.

In a day when tha vast majority of the people lived on farms or in quite small towns (and before TV and the internet and etc.), social life generally revolved about the church and church functions. It's where fishing trips were thought up and bake sales were held and John met Sue and later they married and where they brought each of their new borns to show them off. But such functions are no longer conducted under the auspices of the chuch. It isn't the central focus of life anymore, yet it still carries on as if it were. Its influence has lessened, first because we are so many, and second, because the church, as we know it and watch it, remains in the 18th century.

The biggest problem of the churches today is being involved with politics and trying to influence thier members to eat there own brand of swill. Christ was not an American his message was love, shareing, helping, and not judgeing others. And the only intrest as a Chritian you sould have when it comes to Kingdoms is the Kingdom of God. And its pure good. The Pat Robinsons of this world are are not following the teachings of Christ. Christians get your flags out of the house of God learn about Christ

well, I dont see anything wrong about talking about global warming, but it is a hot political topic and i dont think churches should bring about politics in the service unless....it deals with moral issues such as abortion. i for one am not a fan of killing babies, but thats just me.
however i also dont think that god created the earth for it to be polluted and pillaged irresponsibly.

White evangelical churches beat their members into right-wing Republican submission.
Black evangelical churches beat their members into left-wing Democrat submission.
When Christ walked the earth there was political unrest and termoil in Israel. Did He get wrapped up into the politics of the day? Not from what I read in the Bible.
Jewish leaders tried to bait Him and get Him into the politics of the day, and He wouldn't go there.
Here's what the Bible tells us as Christians about "politics":
That God appoints those in leadership. In Psalms it says, "the heart of the King is in His hand, and like a river, He turns it whichsoever way He wills"
That we are to be respectful of leaders and authorities and pray for them.
That we are to abide by the law and seek peace.
The Bible also says that God's house is to be a house of prayer, praise, worship, and exhortation. I don't think God's intentions for church are to use the opportunity to promote politics.

No you are not the only one thats sees a common wrong bdgee I can only speak for myself and my faith. There should be no political influence in church that is why we have the seperation by law in this country to stop that sort of thing and to let people be free to express there political will outside of there relegion. imho

The reason that divorce is getting just as high with Christians, as non-Christians, is because most churches won't speak out on why divorce is wrong! They won't speak out on any issue, that would keep their numbers down! A lot of churches are becoming "social clubs" and aren't teaching the true Word of God from the scriptures! They are afraid to teach the "truth" People don't want to hear that their lifestyle is against what God teaches to be wrong! As far as being political in church, you should encourage your church family to vote for people that will abide by what God says in His Word! It doesn't matter what party they are, as long as they do what is right! It just so happens, the Republicans have been the lesser of the two evils lately, in my estimation.

You are right. Church's have the liberal mindset of doing everything they can not to "offend" someone. But truth is truth. People will always find stuff to get offended about, that's life and that's how life is always going to be.
But as God says in the book of Micah that He hates divorce, I don't think there's any confusion on the subject...
Guilt is a spiritual matter. When somebody hears something that makes them feel guilty, it usually means they are being convicted of something.
No therapist, anti-depressant, support group, counseling session, or seminar can take away guilt, because it is truly a matter of the soul. And most people react to conviction and guilt with anger.

Talk about putting the quietus on a thread! LETS GET BACK TO REALITY AND LEAVE PREACHING IN THE CHURCHES.
Global warming is a clear and present danger and our nest of liars and corporate political hacks in the Administration are doing absolutely nothing to protect us or even study the problem!
Indeed, under the guise of Christianity (an of course, the childish and flawed free market place...i.e., "trickle down economics") they are using money from our treasury to fund an enormous propaganda campaign to increase global warming.

Kate,
i have no idea how you can say the GOP is better than the dems...
red states have higher divorce rates, and teen pregnancy rates all across the board...
9 of the 10 LOWEST divorce rate states went democrat last election, and? Kentucky, Mississippi and Arkansas voted overwhelmingly for constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage. But they had three of the highest divorce rates in 2003 according to the Census Bureau.
RED states? Nevada and MS and Iowa have the highest GAMBLING revenues in the country...
yeah, those Bush voters are real conservative....
