I'd bet they had what they call a "profer"(sp?) well before they made the final deal with him. He'll be tied in under oath to a long list of testimony and other "aid" to the prosecuters.

Was Jack Abramoff "giving money to both political parties," as President Bush has suggested? No.
The lobbyist himself was a Bush Pioneer and directly wrote more than 200K in checks from '92 to '05 to Republicans. Abramoff never gave a penny to Democrats or Democratic committees.

You have been caught up in the "tide" on this one. The contributions to democrats via Abramoff are never from Abramoff, but from some group or person with whom he was connected. All of his personal contributions or gifts to politicans or political causes were to only republicans, as I understand. Even so, when the funds are tallied, those via all paths to political ends, over 10 times as much went to republicans.

i agree that the main focus will be on the GOP, but as yet i have only the "liberal media" to read from, so i must assume the piggies are all feeding from the same trough.....

Remember, Abramoff was trained in the Reagam White House and his closest ally (after Delay) is the Christain Coalition's fair haired boy leader.

Tribal leaders council rejects Burns donation of Abramoff money

WASHINGTON – The Montana Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council has rejected a $111,000 donation from the campaign of Montana Sen. Conrad Burns, according to the council's vice chairman.
James Steele Jr., chairman of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, said Tuesday evening that the council voted not to accept the donation, which was made up of contributions from lobbyist Jack Abramoff, his associates and his tribal clients.
Steele declined to elaborate on the reasons why the council rejected the money.
Burns said in December that he would give away and return $146,700 in donations in order to avoid the appearance of improper connections to Abramoff, who pleaded guilty two weeks ago to federal corruption charges.
Abramoff admitted to conspiring to defraud Indian tribes, which he sometimes directed to make contributions to lawmakers. Since his plea agreement, many lawmakers have rushed to return any money connected to him and his clients.
Burns returned some of the funds directly to Abramoff's tribal clients. But campaign chairman Mark Baker said last week that they were not able to return some of the larger donations – $20,000 from the Tigua tribe of El Paso, Texas, for example – because the account where the money landed has since been closed. A total of $111,000 was designated for the Montana-Wyoming tribal council instead.
Arturo Senclair, governor of the Tigua tribe, said then that Burns should have returned the money by donating to a charity that benefits the Tiguas, who hired Abramoff to help reopen a casino that had been closed down.
"If they feel that they have to give it back, they should give it back to the tribe," he said.
As part of a plea agreement, Abramoff agreed to share information with investigators about alleged bribes to lawmakers and their aides in a wide-ranging influence-peddling probe. The investigation could involve many aides and members of Congress, including Burns.
Burns has denied he was influenced by donations from Abramoff.
