Kept a pet raccoon for three years, before it died. Got it before its eyes were open and the family bottle fed it. My wife took it everywhere. Also, raised two possums, let them go, one still hangs around the barn. Was in Cherokee NC camping and a Indian Gamewarden wanted to know where we got the raccoon. Told him we had raised it, he did not believe us. My wife said she would fight him if he tried to take it. Thought we were all going to jail. He called two more officers. Took a couple of hours but finally convienced them. Imagine, me, my wife, two kids and a raccoon sitting in a jail on the Indian Reservation....... LOL

that's wild tuck, i raised a baby raccoon to maturity also, but it absolutely refused to be caged...i still have the scars to prove it 30 years later... had to release it, cuz it would go into neighbors houses and open the fridge and raid it... i had the same issues with the park police on the C&O canal over the raccoon too...they were very difficult... i was in my early teens....
two years later i was given two opossums to raise too...they are actually great pets, but so ugly nobody wants anything to do with them...the raccon got mean and everybody loved, it the opossums were gentle, and everybody was repulsed....hmmmmmmm...

Glassman, the opossums were great pets. The kids use to sleep with them. However, they like to ramble at night. Our friends thought we were crazy having them in the house, but as you know, they were great, potted trained to the litter box, same the the raccoon, Roxy. The is no subsitute for kids being close to animals. However, the snakes they have, I am not very warm too. But I am trying.....

animals.... opossums.... i got (supposedly unrelated) two sugar gliders last year.... now i have six and at least two more in the pouch
every morning i get up before sunrise and go out and open all the car doors, i collect no less than 6 and as many as a dozen green tree frogs every morning just from along the rubber seals in the car doors...i put em by the front and back doors to eat the skeeters.... we have a lot less than the neighbors and for a bonus??? we get to watch them hunt the windows all evening... where they spray heavily, just a mile up the road??? they have 100 or maybe a thousand times more skeeters than we do and NO tree frogs... or dragonflys(which eat skeeters too)..... hmmmmmm....
