Earnhardt made NASCAR what it is, i wouldn't even watch it if they weren't allowed to "trade paint"... [Wink]

To be honest, I doubt Jeff would had a chance to win as many championships if Davey wasn't killed. But Tim Richmond was great too. Also Rob Moroso was promising. Seems like the real dare devils that just wouldn't give up lived life to the extreme. Also Ernie Irvan was moving up the ladder before his bad wreck. But out of them all, I afraid that I have to give it to Dale Earnhardt since we will never know for sure on the others. Richard wasn't in the same competition as Dale. Cars weren't even close back then to being even when Richard was king.

But I think Tony and many others will have to watch out for a couple rookies this year. There was two that just tore it up.

Well, Jimmie did the job. He always runs good at Dover it seems. Last time I went down there to watch the race was in 2003 I believe. Jimmie won of course, and Tony slacked behind the whole time, but at least then he finished in the top ten on the lead lap. Oh well, I'm hopng to get back to Dover next year, there isn't a bad seat in the house as you can see the entire track from just about everywhere.

Ric - watched Ron Moroso run. He was good. I long for the old days. When racing was not the the "in thing" to be doing. ESPN doing the races, no speed limit on pit road, no fines for giving the finger, just race cars and race drivers, bumping and racing. Seems like NASCAR wants them to be like golfers.............

LOL, sure should. Jimmie Johnson lied to Knaus saying he was pushed from behind. Well, he was pushed, after JJ ran in the back of Sadler.

I feel bad for Mark. I hope he comes back for one more year, but he'll most likely be retiring after this year.

Looks like if Tony stays out of the big one, he'll open up a decent lead in the Chase after today.

yeah, this one was lucky for Tony, he coulda been in it just as easy as anybody else [Big Grin] , that's why i like Mark, he got out of his car and said "this is restrictor plate racing"....only the fans can make a difference.... maybe they should take the banking donwn by half????
but i see Jimmy is getting his dessert as we speak....
Jimmy is a wiener...always ready to say somebody else is stupid, but he's got a millon excuses for himself...

A little tape removal is all it will take for Tony, as long as he continues to lead, that tape can stay on.

Talladega= 200mph demolition derby....

ryan newman did almost the exact same thing that Jimmy J did...

jimmy is still lying about causing the first big one in his interview...
now JJ says it's EZ to sit in your home and point fingers but until you are driving you don't have anything to say??? take him out of racing...we pay for his cars by shopping at Lowes...

LOWES i implore you to FIRE HIM....... is that what you want your spokesman saying to his fans and your customers?

that is so weak of Johnson everytime he causes a wreck, he blames someone else, just like last time at dega and also he wrecked Stewart earlier this year at phoenix and said stewart brake checked him, the replay clearly showed he punted the #20 from behind. im losing alot of respect for Johnson, people call Kurt Busch spineless, they should take a look at Johnson first. he should atleast admit to his mistakes.

i was saying nascar is for white trash. although that is a bit harsh. my apologies. i guess i just don't understand the appeal.

one thing i would i would like to say is that all the Dale Earnhardt Jr merchandise that i see is made in red China. so that slimeball gets my vote as worst Nascar driver of all time.

very ignorant statement on junky's part. with 75 million fans and growing nascar is not just a white trash sport anymore. some people dont realize how big this sport really is. ive been to several pro sports events and none of them can compare to the nascar races ive went to. nascar is much more fun to watch in person than stick and ball sports. and heres part of an article from fortune.com-

"Once marginalized as a "redneck" amusement, NASCAR (the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing) is now the fastest-growing, best-run sports business in America. NASCAR's current head, Brian France, has aggressively borrowed business tactics from other professional sports, while retaining a business model for the private, family-controlled NASCAR that is markedly different from that of other big-money sports. It appears to be a successful formula — NASCAR is a multibillion-dollar industry and the second-most-watched sport on television behind pro football. Licensed retail sales of NASCAR-branded products have increased 250% over the past decade, totaling $2.1 billion last year alone, and 106 FORTUNE 500 companies are involved as corporate sponsors, more than in any other sport. Sponsors rave about the purchasing loyalty of NASCAR fans — a licensing study showed that 72% of fans are more likely to buy a product if it has the sport's logo on it. NASCAR's unprecedented expansion does pose a challenge to France, however — in expanding its reach into new markets, NASCAR risks losing the distinctiveness of its audience and turning off its core fan base, potentially diluting its fans' responsiveness to ads."

Johnson takes blame for eight-car Talladega crash -Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jimmie Johnson acknowledged Tuesday he was at fault for an eight-car crash at Talladega Superspeedway that scuttled at least one other driver's championship hopes.

Johnson had denied responsibility immediately after Sunday's accident, which cost both himself and Mark Martin valuable ground in the race for the Nextel Cup title.

After watching tape of the accident that occurred 20 laps into the race, Johnson said he realized he ran into the back of leader Elliott Sadler to start the wreck. Johnson initially claimed he was pushed into Sadler by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

"I feel bad, I don't know what else I can say," Johnson said. "I started a wreck and took out a lot of good cars. That was the last thing I intended to do and I feel horrible for it. So I'm taking the responsibility.

"I needed to see the video to really understand what took place."

Johnson and Martin were the only two Chase for the championship drivers caught in the accident and it cost them dearly.

Johnson, who was involved in a later accident that ended his day, dropped from the top of the Nextel Cup leaderboard to fourth and is now 82 points behind new leader Tony Stewart.

Martin, meanwhile, plummeted to ninth in the standings and is 138 points back. He was angry after the accident, but criticized the racing conditions instead of Johnson.

But Johnson was widely blamed by the other drivers in the accident, especially Sadler.

"I guess he's trying to keep his streak alive -- he caused a big wreck here last year and he caused a big one again this year," Sadler snapped. "Maybe that's his way of racing here at Talladega ... try to get rid of everybody so he can win the race."

Johnson said he has apologized to Sadler, and left a message for Michael Waltrip, who flipped several times during the accident. He now believes the accident was caused because he got too close to Sadler entering the first turn, causing Sadler's car to bobble. Sadler had to slow to save it, and Johnson rammed into the back of him. Earnhardt then hit Johnson, starting the chain-reaction crash.

"That's the last thing in the world I wanted to do," Johnson said. "I went and spoke to Elliott immediately after the race and he knew. Even though he was upset, he apologized for saying some harsh things, but he knew what took place and that I got him loose before I actually got into him.

"I apologized."

Johnson was also blamed for starting a 25-car accident at Talladega in April, a wreck that led Earnhardt to call him an "idiot" and create a wave of criticism about Johnson's driving style.

He said he knows this latest accident will follow him this weekend into Kansas, the fourth of the 10 races in the championship chase.

"It's not going to just disappear over the course of a week," he said. "I've just got to get in there and do my job and do the best that I can and try to get a couple weeks behind us and move on."
