Interesting. I found it much more likely back in the 80's when Reagan was the one with his finger on the button

then there's the few that are only partly morons

All that helps explain why 52 percent of Americans think a nuclear attack by one country against another is somewhat or very likely by 2010, according to an AP-Ipsos poll. Fifty-three percent think a nuclear attack by terrorists is at least somewhat likely.

tactical nukes seem to be becoming an accepted idea in some circles....(or should i say an oval)

Nuclear Bunker Busters, Mini-Nukes, and the US Nuclear Stockpile

The Bush administration is contemplating a new crop of nuclear weapons that could reduce the threat to civilian populations. However, they're still unlikely to work without producing massive radioactive fallout, and their development might require a return to underground nuclear testing.

Bush seeks cash for bunker-buster nukes

United States President George W Bush has included spending to promote research on new nuclear weapons, such as controversial bunker-busters, in his federal budget plan for the 2006 fiscal year.

The spending is part of his proposed outlays related to nuclear arms.

President Bush requested $US6.63 billion for nuclear weapons activities at the Energy Department, which maintains and develops nuclear warheads, up 0.7 per cent from the current 2005 fiscal year.

The budget includes $US4 million to revive a study on bunker-buster nuclear arms, called the "robust nuclear earth penetrator".
Congress killed the study in the fiscal 2005 budget due to concerns that it would hinder international non-proliferation efforts.

apparently, he's asked for this type of funding every year since he's been in....

somehow, i have a hard time seeing how this computes with "erring on the side of life"

We need neutron bombs.

Limited destruction and less fallout.

New laser and sound weapons are coming.

It is all about being the fittest, and surviving.

The weaker will die, as usual.

Always has been, is now, and always will be.

Reality - deal with it or be buried by it.

i think you are overlooking one of the most important issues of survival Art,

it's not the "fittest" that survives (in the long) at all...
yes the fittest are able to exploit the environment more fully at any given time,

BUT,

adaptation is the ultimate survival trait, and we have to learn to adapt to the post-nuclear age...

yes alternate weapons must be developed...

and diplomatic techniques need to be refined more highly, since we now have the technology for worldwide mass communication we have half of the equation...
the other half is learning how speak to each other......

and listen...

Diplomatic techniques?

You sure have faith in diplomacy.

You must think it is some sort of process where nation representatives of good will gather and reason together.

Diplomacy is bartering, where one side wants something and the other side tries to get as much as it can in return, both sides trying to help themselves while hurting the other as much as possible. Too often a nation has to give up too much to make it worthwhile.

This is where power and the threat of use of such power is important. Economic sanctions can sometimes force another nation to comply without using military force for example, but a strong military always helps.

Do you think Syria is puling out of Lebanon because of diplomacy consisting only of reasoned discussion?

Do you think diplomacy without the threat of force or the blackmail of increased trade benefits would ever work except with your very close allies and trade partners?

The other side listens quite well when facing a gun that you hold. This is diplomcay, and refining it means getting more and better guns.

glassman: no Art, you are revealing what YOU think diplomacy is in this statement....

we hold the ACES...already....

Art:Do you think diplomacy without the threat of force or the blackmail of increased trade benefits would ever work except with your very close allies and trade partners?

glassman: we have alienated a lot of our close allies recently....this will be expensive in th efuture...

Art:Do you think Syria is puling out of Lebanon because of diplomacy consisting only of reasoned discussion?

glasman: i could give a rat's ass about syria, they have nothing for US...

as far as Iraq goes? Saudi Arabia and Iran will spend their ample US OIL dollars making sure we can never fully utilize it....while the rest of the world sits idly by watching becuse we tried to grab it ALL for ourselves.....

thats' not idle speculation...it's a true comprehension of the Art of War....

A nuke attack by 2010 is as likely to happen as the next Pope being the Anti-Christ.

Chew on that for a bit. I actually think that both are possible.
