Sounds like a scam to me. They want to charge you to refile or something. The IRS doesn't send threatening letters on 3X5 cards. It would have a letter head. IMO Also it sound like they are refering to Real Estate tax. Again IMO. Wouldn't hurt to talk to someone who knows the law in your state area or whatever.

Yeap, trust me, IRS will send you a formal letter on a letterhead. Even if you egnore it, they will send it again saying they will cease property, put liens, garnish wages, ect. ect. until you contact them.
That's why I had to sell QBID. Had 4 million shares but I had to just take care of the situation before it got worse.
TIP: Anyone who owes taxes to the IRS, did you know that you can request to pay them back in monthly payments? Yeap. Interest might hurt you but if you dont have the lump sum, thats what they do for you.

'your 2004 tax assessment' sounds like real estate taxes. I take it you are a home owner? Perhaps they have a lobbying wing that has uncovered some fraudulent tax collection activity in your county?

The BBB has nothing to do with Taxes. I would go to the local IRS office and bring in the card with you. Better yet go by the local BBB office, I am sure they would like to know that someone is using there name. This sounds fishy. Again, I worked closely with the BBB as a GM of a hotel. They have nothing to do with taxes.

It is your chance to go in front of a judge and have your real estate taxes lowered if you think they are too high. Most of my neighbors have done it and had their taxes lowered by $600-$1500 per year. None of them used a lawyer though. I'm in Jersey, $275,000 house costs me $6000 per year in taxes. I'm appealing this year to see if I can get mine lowered.
