Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary, 2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program, 3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year, 4.) That the money the participants put into the independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and, 5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income. Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to "put away," you may be interested in the following: Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent "Trust" fund and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it? A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically-controlled House and Senate. Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding? A: The Democratic Party. Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities? A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the "tie-breaking" deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S. Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? MY FAVORITE : A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive SSI Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and violation of the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!

This is a very sour topic. I've worked since I can't remember not working. I was the eight year old who took his lemonade stand very seriously. I remember once when a small puppy wandered up to my corner stand one day. I sold it that afternoon. Around the same age I took note on the back cover of comic books and sold seeds in the spring and greeting cards in the fall. At 12 I took up a daily newspaper route that had been previously run by a man. 112 customers. Figured I would use my go-cart (Briggs and Stratten never dies) to deliver. On second day was pulled over and told could not ride go-cart on roadway. Was ready to hang it up. Father would have none of it. Said there was probably a man with responsibilities out there that could have used the job when I applied for it. Had to use bicycle to peddle my ass off from that point on. By the end of my first year I had expanded my customer base to 157. Sold seeds and greeting cards to about half of them also. Went to work on a ranch at 14 doing anything from stringing barb wire to paintin' the barns. At 16 I sent away for birth certificate and meticulously changed the year born from "60" to "58". Didn't return for senior year of high school. In the summer I took my GED hired into a small Ford Motor stamping plant and ran a grinder (chittiest job in the plant) for about a year. At 17 I enlisted in the military. When I was discharged four years later, I went back into auto industry for a few years and went to community college (nights) to pick up degree. Only received an associates, but concentrated primarily on business related courses when possible (economics, marketing, advertising for electives). Got into retail and moved up the ladder in that field for next 15-16 years until last year. Long rambling point I'm tryin' to make here I guess, is that I've worked my ass off my entire life. The "Baby Boomers" are now hitting retirement age (born in 1960 I bring up the tail end) and are going to be expecting the "Pill" generation to be able to provide enough funding for Social Security. Republican or Democrat......it ain't happenin' folks. Don't even kid yourselves. You are born. You work. You work some more. You work even more. You die. Hopefully in your time on this planet you will do one of three things. 1) save/invest well enough to allow some "don't have to work before I die" time, or 2) have someone save/invest better than yourself and then remember you in their will, or 3) hit the lottery.

Sounds familiar. Was raised on a dairy farm. Milked 30 cows by hand every morn and night from the age of 8 to about 16. Two brothers did same...another 30 ea. We were kids doing a man's job and at times, the sh*t would fly. No joke, didn't have a barn cleaner and once in a while one of us would miss and hit the bro on the other side. Was driving a farm tractor at age 8. At age 16 the old man had us go into his construction business...door to door cold canvassing and sales of roofing, siding, windows, home repair, etc. Worked my way through college. Went 2 yrs and got drafted while working to continue. Got out and finished Bachelor's Degree. Worked for management/engineering consulting firm, for the NYSE and had my own business. Got advanced degrees nights while in NYC.
PS: Father left the ministry some years before the farm.
Now, I pay taxes on my Social Security that I have already paid taxes on before.

Man now i know i'm getting old,i can totally relate.Started buying candy and taking it to school and selling it during the day,between classes,lunch,even during class.Boy i made a killing,wish i could do it now.Been working and paying into social security since about 16.Got hurt and disabled took me 5 years to get approved.Make a long story short social security don't pay squat hardly.So don't count on it.
