Originally posted by Alex From San Diego: [QB]
Originally posted by glfpimp: I was just thinking. With movies, people rent them and watch and send them back. With video games, people will wanna keep playing them, and might even keep them for a couple of months while they send in their other two games (or movies). Just curious if anybody knows how many copies they have of each title. Is this information available? I looked for it for a bit, but I couldn't find anything. If there are only single copies of every game, this could prove to be a major problem! What is everybody elses thoughts on this?
I can guarantee they will have more than 1 copy of each title. It is called supply and demand. What you should be asking is this. When a new release is out, there will be a high demand which will mean they need to have a large number of copies on the shelves to meet demands. Now what happens 2-3 months later when that demand for that title levels offs? What do they do with all the extra titles on the shelves? I'm not sure if they are purchasing the titles or leasing the titles. If they are purchasing the titles, I'm sure they are purchasing them for pennies on the dollar which means that with the over abundance of copies with any title, they should sell those extra copies at a discounted rate just like BlockBuster does. The ways to market that idea are endless. I'm sure they will have a dababase of subscribers that specifies what titles they have rented. So emailing those subscribers offering a purchase of a title at a substancial discounted rate would be very lucerative. [/QB]
