[QUOTE]Originally posted by whizknock: [QB] Written by aiken_walker 12 May 2004 I'm not delighted with how long this has taken, however I don't think it was intentional and I don't don't think what's happening now is a delay tactic. My feeling is that these people a accustomed to buying "mature" technologies that are either already tested/certified or just don't require certification. As far as I can tell this is also the first product that they have developed from the ground up. It is always tough and unfortunately the first time is when you learn all the twists and turns. I've done this. Had people calling me all hours, staying up all night for months with an oscilloscope and soldering iron, driving all day to see some manufacturer. Then you get the first run, you find out that some component is too close to another causing a problem, the CPU firmware has an intermittent glitch, the PC software crashes. The machine shop calls and says the case plastic is cracking when they drill holes. People start calling the very next day, "Hey you idiots where are the units? We are leaving for the trade show today. Are you stupid?" Then you start to go through the problems. You fix them, have new pc boards made, get the manufacture to make some more. Then the manufacturer calls and says they can't start for two weeks because of another product being built. Then you finally get the second run and find the smaller problems. Then your software guy starts getting a divorce and can barely work. The PC interface cable company won't return your calls. Finally you get the bugs worked out and have to do FCC certification and other testing. Months have passed and you feel beat and hate to even look at the product, everyone thinks you're scamming them. The phone continues to ring and it usually is someone angry. You start to let the answering machine get it. FCC testing can be a stressful the first time and in my case it was expensive. You have to schedule time at a certified testing facility (there are many) and either send the product to them or take it in person. After you get to the testing facility they set your product in a shielded metal room that looks like an expensive lawn shed. All kinds of antennas are aimed at the device to measure radio frequency emissions. You sit watching nervously as graphs appear on a computer screen. If a single point passes the limit you probably have to redo some part of the device. Sometimes you get lucky and go home with a pile of graphs and documents. If not you are in for scheduling another test session and more angry customers. By this time many, many people are angry, some have completely given up on you and the product. Some may even threaten legal action or fail to pay you. Others who have stuck with you are happy to see the end product. If you've never done this before the schedule and path can be uncertain and it is grueling. I'm not defending everything that's happening, but having been down this road I can empathize with iBIZ and partly for that reason, I like the company. Having infrequently or never issued an FCC covered product it is entirely possible that they just overlooked this requirement or just failed to mention it. In my opinion everything that has and is happening is perfectly normal and seems above board to me. We could have gotten more info, but most companies don't release every technical detail. Just expressing my opinion and relating my experiences here, so please don't bash me. I'm long and hope we all do well. Most of all I wish iBIZ luck with the launch of this newly developed product.
