Hey NP, great pick, the 6 year chart worries me a bit but it just might be a reflection of the dot com bust...

Historicaly it tops out at .50 to .75 , I hope it breaks the top and keeps going, that might show an end to the dot com influence and MM affected stocks...only time will tell...lol

Hey, just for fun check out SE aka 7eleven, great example of a roller coaster stock,

It should be a good to buy in 2006....lol

I agree, that is why I am not too anxious to buy it, but it has to be watched. An Edmonton broker for Canaccord has been talking about this one for years. Like I said, this stock has super strong ownership.Mutuals, Brokers, promoters, Peter Brown.BUT, it has not moved in a long time, so I will just wait for a story to develop, or a large volume breakout.
As for 7-eleven, I really like what they are doing, going from the suburbs to the downtown cores.

I notice lots of penny stocks are still weak the last few days of the month. I have L2 and the bids really thin out.
When I used to have a full service broker (Haywood) years ago, the house would lend me money at the beginning of the month (let me go over margin, or give me margin when I didn't even have a margin acct), but I would have to settle my account the last week of the month.
Today, many hyped up news releases are still timed for the beginning of the month to take advantage of increased investor liquidity.
Tomorrow and next week should see some strength, but watch out for summer.
Last summer was strong, but two good summers in a row is rare for the tsx venture.
We will see, if gold goes to $450, then the tsxv should do fine.

Stratic announced a private placement today, maybe things will finally start to happen.
Sure, the chart does not look great, but SE has not gone through a promotion/distribution cycle in a long time.(Years) Tightly held.!!
With the ownershhip this one has(check top of thread), it can not be ignored.

Hey NP.... Do you only play Canadian stocks?

northernprophet - posted
Hi Gregdogg. Yes, I almost always play Cdn stocks, but lots of the stocks I play are interlisted.
I find the Canadian market is small enough that I can follow all sectors, though I mainly follow mining.
Also, I believe by talking to people and reading the business papers, I have a "feel" for what is going on up here. Also, when brokers have conferences and bring in promoters to Edmonton, I can meet them, listen to them, and see if they look like real businessmen or corner lot salesman.
Three years ago, Robert Friedland came to Edmonton, I saw him speak about his Ivanhoe Energy; man oh man, you better hold on to your wallet when this guy is in the room, he is one smooth and credible talker, no wonder he is a billionaire.
(PS, Both stocks Friedland recommended went on to lose 70% of their value.)

Also, with respect to the pennies that people talk about on the American boards, it seems to me that those stocks are for short term traders. I am not a trader, but some people are good at it. Most of those American stocks certainly are much more liquid that the Cdn stocks, which makes them better for trading. If I was a trader , I would look more to the US pennies.

My broker says that SE will move shortly... Something about some deal closing?? This has been flat for a long time, something has to go now. I'm even playing it in my RSPs (not the smartest thing, eh?) - bought in last Fri.

Hi Finney. I am from Edmonton and a Canaccord broker with strong ties to the Calgary oil/gas scene is a big backer of Stratic.
Their private placement should close soon.
This stock has HUGE potential, and strong ownership to help getting the word out.
What house do you deal with?

Finney - posted
Hey NP, we're practically neighbors. Man, alot of Canacrap's (kidding) clients have been buying the sh*t out of IFR.V at high prices...(+$0.85) I'm trying to get back in the mid $0.70s. How long have you been a broker? Do you deal mostly with small cap or are you balanced with mid and large too? I deal with Research Capital, my husband deals with Scotia McLeod and we have discount broker too. One can't help buy have alot of exposure to the o & g sector living in this neck of woods. I just got out of Phoenix Technologies (in at $3.50, out at $4.47). It's hard to believe that, if they convert to a trust, how can they pay distribution with only one service? Although, Trinidad Drilling seems to being doing alright... How about the Flames? It's too bad they lost in triple O.T.

northernprophet - posted
No, I am not a broker.(my wording was poor) The Canaccord guy up here (Dave Pescod)always brings in the oilpatch boys from Calgary up to Edmonton to meet clients. I deal with TD Waterhouse.
Olympia, CGX(Kerry Sully) are some stocks he covers, also got his clients into Ultra Petroleum (tsx, amex) at $1.00 in 99-00. Look where it is today, JP Morgan initiated coverage a few months ago.
Stratic should close their private placement of 12.5M units at .40 this week.
Also, the CEO from Trinidad Drilling was up here a couple of times.
PS. I am happy for the Flames, I have not cheered for the Oilers in ages.

Northern P I also use td watwerhouse. Can one negotiate the commission on a large sell or buy with them? say if your commision ends up being over a thousand dollars, could you, move the stock over to a differnt trade house?

Finney - posted
Hey Rich555, I have a story to tell you about commissions... A friend of a friend did 5000 trades a year and increased to 7000. This guy could have purchased a "share" in the TSX and do his own trading for a nominal fee. This guy approached TD Waterhouse and told them he was going to do his own trading, so they negotiated $9 trades. I tell ya, money talks!!

northernprophet - posted
Rich555, I have never done big block trades(100,000), except with pennies that were not worth much. But I do know that if you are a big trader, and have generated lots of commissions, costs can be negotiated.
About moving to a different house to do the trade, I am sure it can be done, but better to work with the house you are with and try to do a deal. I know TD Waterhouse has different types of accounts, (President's,etc.) and the more you trade, the cheaper it is and you get more free research tools.

Stratic Energy was the volume leader on the tsxv for the week ended May 14.
This one has huge potential, tightly held, strong ownership.
Things could be getting ready to roll.
My opinion, is that oil will keep on going up until people start changing their energy consumption behaviour. In the late 70s, people started buying smaller cars, and 8 years later oil rigs were being sold for scrap metal.
Sell your SUV now.

Stratic has great land holdings in Syria, an underexplored country. Petro Canada surrounds their claims. Look for a London listing and a joint venture between Petro Canada and SE.

BTP is my #1 pick for mining and Stratic is my #1 oil/gas play.
