Increased Lab Productivity Draws Attention from Investors

As a result of ytuesdays’s announcement, which heralded a recent milestone achievement of Kraig Labs scientists, several promotional firms have initiated coverage of the company. In addition, a rising buzz in online investment communities’ message boards and chatrooms has been observed.

KBLB .033 - Buyout Potential

It is no mystery that Kraig Biocraft Laboratories is a research and development company. They do not have the infrastructure to immediately compete against the biggest players in the technical textiles market. They do not need to focus on supply chain management or building a large sales and marketing team. This is simply not their goal.

Investors or potential investors should not be alarmed by this “lack of infrastructure” if you will. The long-term performance of one’s investment in this company is based on its response to two fundamental questions: 1) Can Kraig Biocraft harness its spider silk technology into a package that can be readily used in commercial applications, and 2) Does Kraig Biocraft have the intellectual property rights behind its technology?

From recent statements delivered within the past year from CEO Kim Thompson, it appears that Kraig is very much on the verge of fulfilling both of the questions above. Once they are met, Kraig will be seen as an attractive buyout to those companies having the established infrastructures capable of delivering Kraig’s technologies in commercial applications. DuPont and Honeywell would be the first two major players that come to mind.

Amid the economic downturn, the number of mergers and acquisitions within the biotech fields has remained consistent and extremely beneficial to the company taken over. Look at other buyout offers within the biotech field during the past two years:

• At $1.72 per share, synthetic fuels and fertilizer technology company Rentech Inc was proposed to be bought out at $2.70 per share by Sherwood Investments Overseas Ltd (November 2007) - Rentech shares rose more than 32 percent on the news that day
• When GlaxoSmithKline PLC proposed to buy Genelabs Technologies Inc. for $1.30 per share, the stock price of Genelabs rose 430% (October 2008)

Overall, it appears that Kraig’s stock price may move moderately from here on findings in the laboratory or based on the progress with current or new patent filings. The huge jump will take place when a takeover is announced. Whether this news takes place in a year or in two years, the investment will be well worth the wait considering the potential gains that can be made in that one day.

KBLB.OB Dividend Distributed to E*Trade Customers Ahead of Ex-Dividend Date

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. informed its shareholders that E*Trade customers who purchased the company’s common stock prior to today have received the recently announced dividend, even though the ex-dividend date is not until Monday of next week. According to the press release, anyone who sells their shares before the dividend date will not receive the dividend.

The company apologized for the inconvenience and told investors to call 1-800-387-2331 if they have questions concerning the issue.

KBLB.OB Taps Universities to Maximize Success

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc., a biotechnology development company focused on genetically engineered high performance polymers and technical fibers, has managed to significantly leverage its efforts and success through cooperative work with select university laboratories. It’s a creative arrangement, under the Kraig Research Initiative, that allows Kraig to bring technologies from diverse research institutions and combine them. As part of the program, Kraig licenses university intellectual property in genetics and genetic engineering, tapping some of the greatest minds in the field.

Based on proprietary genetic engineering technology, Kraig is working to develop and produce polymers and protein-based materials, including spider silk. The company believes that spider silk is a “super fiber” that will have numerous commercial and consumer applications. In fact, the spider silk gene sequences, at the core of the technology, were first studied and patented by Dr. Lewis of the University of Wyoming. In 2006, Kraig obtained exclusive rights from the University for certain uses of the sequences.

Kraig is using genetic engineering to coax silkworms into producing spider silk. To do this, scientists had to develop the technology to successfully insert into silkworms the DNA packets containing the unique gene sequence used by spiders to produce silk. Since Kraig Biocraft first obtained the right to use the spider silk gene sequence, they have surprised many with the progress they’ve made, performing thousands of insertions in a single week. Scientists working in the company’s research program at the University of Notre Dame continue to make substantial progress in the successful insertion of DNA packets, increasing both the number and proportion of insertions. As their success with insertions increases, so does their chance of developing a viable polymer.

There’s good reason for Kraig Biocraft to do everything they can to leverage their efforts to develop high performance polymers and fibers. Emerging Growth Research, an independent California based industry research firm, stated recently that, should Kraig achieve its goal, “the technology will likely immediately be worth at least several hundred million dollars”.

Can anyone explain how this 9:1 dividend works?

On a forward or reverse splits, the shares/values are immediately reflected.

I see no mention of a change of shares or value per share in my portfolio.

Any help to understand this question is appreciated.

It's a 10:1 ratio, and the ex-date is not until May 28.

Apparently, some E-trade customers got shares delivered early; anyway, the shares/price adjustments won't happen till 5-28:

There could be trouble if the early E-trade shares have not been pulled back: 1)Anybody who sells before 5-28 loses the right to divvy shares; 2) if those early shares get sold, they'll be split, too...

Well, you shouldn't be too embarrassed: the company screwed up the press release by confusing the record date (the Monday that's mentioned) with the ex-date...lol
