Fred Pagan, the office manager for Mississippi Republican Sen. Thad Cochran, was arrested after officers from Homeland Security and the Metropolitan Police Department raided his home last Thursday and allegedly found 181.5 grams of methamphetamine, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court.

Pagan, 49, later allegedly confessed to importing the drugs from China with the intention of exchanging them for sexual favors, Politico reports.

The senior staffer was charged in Washington, D.C. on Thursday with possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and importation of a controlled substance. He was released on his own recognizance after appearing in court Friday afternoon, according to the Washington Post.

Pagan could face up to 60 years in prison for the charges, and his next court date is May 14.

Cochran spokesman Chris Gallegos tells the Washington Post, "The senator is traveling to Mississippi right now and has not seen the details included in the documents you provided. Our office is in the process of consulting with Senate legal counsel."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Ohio first caught on to Pagan on April 9 when they found a suspicious package from China addressed to him. The package contained the drug gamma-Butyrolactone, or GBL, which is commonly used as a date-rape drug.

Pagan allegedly told officers that he planned to distribute the GLB and meth "in exchange for sexual favors," according to the court filing.

Does not surprise me in the least. Our
government has been corrupt from day one and that includes some of the founding fathers.

what's really interesting is that this isn't being covered in local news....
Cochran was in a bad re-elction fight with a third party candidate and won under unusual circumstances last fall...

well you have to ask yourself how many more are going down

i'm not sure that people understand the full implications of this yet. Cochran has had this guy working for him for over 30 years. Cochran is one of the true old boys on the Hill. This guy is ht ethird most senior Senator. He's been there since '78.
Senate Seniority List —
114th Congress
Republicans
Orrin G. Hatch, Utah Jan. 4, 1977
Thad Cochran, Miss. Dec. 27, 1978
Democrats
Patrick J. Leahy, Vt. Jan. 14, 1975
Barbara A. Mikulski, Md. Jan. 6, 1987

Date rape drugs in bulk in the Capitol Building? meth? At the most senior levels? This didn't just happen once, can you smell that smell?

I guess I'm missing the part about being surprised. Or any notion that Cochran will be affected.

i'm only surprised they got caught. i grew up in the beltway, i saw it all before my 18th. The thing that bothers me is that i know this is only the tip of the iceberg so to speak.

I get the reason he claimed it was for favors, that's his mitigation against being called a dealer. It's merely a technical point. But in sentencing it will matter.

What bothers me most is that this isn't weed, meth is more addictive than most of the opiates. I've watched alot of peopl tip over that edge and it ain't pretty.
Date rape drugs being distributed out of the Capitaol building is even more disturbing to me. I have to tell you i think daterape drugs and child porn are about equal and both deserve a big snip to the nutsak

i know for a fact that Cochran will be affected, what we will see and what actaully happens are two differnt things.

there's alot more than just a simple drug bust going on here. people in htis kind of power seat don't take hits from simple folk like you and me. watch and wait. be on the lookout for committee assignment changes etc. Cochran shouldnot have run again anyway, he should have taken his catheter bag and set out on the back porch.

fear and loathing on Capitol Hill. "We were somewhere outside Potomac when the drugs kicked in......"

Gubment pulled off 9/11 without any blame even though the evidence is overwhelming.

The CIA is known to be in charge of most if not all major drug cartels, yet they get away with it.

One aide gets busted mail ordering drugs from China and it's going to leave a dent in gubment??

Nah.. Thinking not.

the Senate doesn't usually let this kind of thing happen in public. Cochran is the Chair of the appropriations committee.

the fact that somebody was willing to go after Cochran's (top?) aide shows that a shift in power is already happening.

intersting site cashcow...

i found this article to particularly ironic under the circumstances;

Federal agents began conducting surveillance at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and subsequently observed Tucker retrieving a similar package from the Medical Center’s mail room on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Tucker then brought the package to his office where Casiano exchanged it for $500 in cash.

Postal Inspectors later stopped out with Casiano as he was leaving the facility and discovered him to be in possession of 1 kilogram of cocaine.

Both men were federally charged for their crimes.
Their exploitation of a facility dedicated to the care of wounded veterans is viewed as particularly deplorable.

LOL.... VA office distributing drugs? how about using the Capitaol Building? sheesh! particularly deplorable... LOL...
