A signing ceremony Tuesday between Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Prime Minister of Crimea and the mayor of the city of Sevastopol made it official, the Kremlin said in a statement. The territory, ceded to Ukraine in the Soviet era, is now part of the Russian Federation, it said. Putin told a joint session of Russia's Parliament on Tuesday that the nearly 97% of Crimean residents who voted to join Russia over the weekend was "an extremely convincing figure." In an hour-long speech, he argued that the vote had been entirely legitimate and stressed the historical and cultural ties between Russia and Crimea.
"In our hearts we know Crimea has always been an inalienable part of Russia," he said.
that is interesting Pagan. seems to me that Putin will be "forced" to annex more of Ukraine just to effect infrastucture support for the Crimea.
this sanction thingy could backfire on US too... it's not like we can do or say nothing either...

The country's communist leaders have often repeated China's respect for the sovereignty of all countries, though Beijing is also under considerable pressure to support its ally, Moscow.
"The China-Russia relationship is in its best period in history", China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi proclaimed during China's annual parliament session this month.
Politically, the two states often work together. China has often backed Russia's stance on Syria. China and Russia also conducted joint naval drills last July, the largest joint military exercises in Chinese history.
The countries' economies are also interlinked: China is Russia's largest consumer of oil, overtaking Germany last year.

Oops..I guess I did a flyby on that one with you glassman. Actually read the article and see the mess that Russia is getting into. IMO, serves him right. Read all the details about annexing Crimea. It is a major economic burden. Putin only wants Crimea for strategic reasons. he couldn't give a flip about the people there.

here's the "thing" cashcow... Obama would be considered more powerful than Putin except 40% of Americans hate him. Putin didn't become more powerful in the last year, it's just that Obama is a lame duck now...
Russia is nothing to sneeze at, but the Russkie GDP is not even as high as germany, and it's about 1/8th ours...
Putin is the most powerful dictator, but he's not running the most powerful nation...
