Congressman Receives Threats From Gun Advocates Warning Him To ‘Watch His Back’

By Igor Volsky on Jan 19, 2013 at 12:04 pm

Rep. Rick Nolan (D-MN), gun safety advocate who represents “real gun country,” told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Saturday that his office is receiving anonymous threats, warning the Congressman to watch his back.

“I have never, ever in all my life feared for my security, and I’m not fearful of it now,” Nolan began. “But I’m a little more [fearful] than I ever had been before. We’ve been getting a lot of not very thinly veiled threats and calls into my office. You know, things like, ‘you tell Nolan he better watch his back’”:

NOLAN: Nobody has actually come out and said they’re gunning for me, but the messages are quite angry, vitriolic, and a little bit frightening to people at my front desk who have been taking the calls. I’m a little nervous about it. I’ve never been nervous before. [The NRA] are very toxic in the effect they’re having on the American public.

Nolan added that during his Congressional campaign, NRA Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre, crisscrossed his district telling voters with hunting licenses that he “is going to take your guns away.”

Since the shooting in Newton, Connecticut, the NRA’s efforts have only intensified. The organization cast its opposition to President Obama’s gun safety regulations as “the fight of the century,” circulating a letter characterizing Obama’s proposals as “about banning your guns … PERIOD!” “Barack Obama, Joe Biden and their gun ban allies in Congress only want to BLAME you, VILIFY you, BULLY you, and STRIP you of your Second Amendment freedoms,” the letter says. NRA President David Keene even blamed Obama for the death threats the organization received.

But while the NRA’s over-the-top rhetoric and tactics have polluted the gun debate, Nolan sees “a big change in national sentiment” in favor of sensible gun safety reforms. “Not only are people in urban areas concerned but people in rural areas are, too,” he said. “They understand that you don’t need an assault rifle to shoot a duck or to protect your home.”

don't need a full atuo ? nope, but a semi-auto rifle will stop mob violence:

From 1882-1968, 4,743 lynchings occurred in the United States. Of these people that were lynched 3,446 were black. The blacks lynched accounted for 72.7% of the people lynched. These numbers seem large, but it is known that not all of the lynchings were ever recorded. Out of the 4,743 people lynched only 1,297 white people were lynched. That is only 27.3%. Many of the whites lynched were lynched for helping the black or being anti lynching and even for domestic crimes.

i wonder if ANY of those poor African Americans had guns atall? i doubt it...

and before you tell me times havechanged? remebr that unarmed people were shot to death in NOLA by cops in Katrina and they tried to cover it up...
people are not nicer or better today than they were 100 years ago...
a Colt makes everyone equal- 100 pounds or 200 pounds don't matter..

Not much different than Governor Walker getting death threats from union members.

It appears to me we should join the current hysteria and suggest the evidence shows that all registered Democrats should be confiscated.

We know who they are- ~ they're registered!

Why is it that none of the disturbed and evil men, who steal guns, then go and kill movie-goers and children in school, has ever been identified as a conservative NRA member?

Ft Hood~~~ Registered Democrat ~ Muslim

Columbine ~~~ Too young to vote; both families were registered Democrats and progressive liberals

Virginia Tech ~~~ Wrote hate mail to President Bush and to his staff ~Registered Democrat

Colorado Theater ~~~ Registered Democrat; staff worker on the Obama campaign; Occupy Wall Street participant; progressive liberal

Connecticut School Shooter- ~~~ Registered Democrat; hated Christians,

Common thread is that all of these shooters were progressive liberal Democrats."

INTERESTING, isn't it?

INTERESTING, isn't it?

they've all been indcotrinatd into the cult and are martyring themselves for the cause...

i've also seen alot of claims that many of the shooters are on prescriptoion psychotropics, the real gun kook that i know (i have manged to aovid him now for years) was raised by extroardnarily active liberals... his parents were anti-gun and he kept them BECAUSE of that... never left home till both is parents died, never held a decent job, but somehow managed to buy himself some serious sniper weapons- i felt obligated to report him for buying these guns he did have when he started bagging to me about the barret 50 he was going to get next...
fisrtly i tried to talk him out of it simply because the secret service SHOULD track them - (yep i am not anti-corntols) becuase this gun in the right hands has a 1/2 mile kill range which means that you do not need to be anywher near the target to "do" it.... living the DC area with one should have yo on a watch list of the Secret service so they can protec the president. this gun will put round thru a concrete walla nd kill the person behind it, one SS agent in vest is not going to "catch the round" for the prez, it will kill both of them...
the ATF took vital information form me which i had including his EAOS from the army for threatening to commit suicide if they didn't lett him out (this was at 36, he enlisted on hislat date of acceptance at 34 9/10ths.

those of us that do want to protect the second , have an obligation to police ourselves, i don't like it, it felt worng, but i felt obligated....

this guy fit all of th profile for commiting suicide after shniping as many people as he could get away with, i gave them all the info and they did nothing.... that is what's really worng with our Government todya. and i KNOW thta it is not everyone in the govt, it is probably th esame numebr of donothigns in privarte industry, but in the Govt they rise higher and have more authority than they would in private industry because the govt has some stupid valutaion systems that have nothing to do with productivty... they say that in the Government you rise to the highest level until you reach your level of incmopetence, and then you stay there... forever....
i know this guy was buying his guns from an FFL i know he was reloading illegally in a townhome in a city where it was illegal in the DC area. i knowh e threatened to commit suicde, i know he got an other than honeorable, and they did nothing... now, to my knowledge he lives in a state where you can carry openly and has actually been on TV for wearing his six-shooter in a tsarbucks and got interviewed for it...
he will end up dead by a gun this way... one way or another it will end up bad, and i and others did what we could do within the law to prevent it. the law was NOT enforced by IMO lazy SOB"s

I agree with you glass. But in most states you can talk about breaking the law all you want. Law enforcement really can't do do much about it until you actually break the law.
