on silver platter.

Obama just blew it. Taking control of the "dream act" on his own is a foolish move.

I watched a movie the other night made in '86 called "The Pursuit of Happines"..

it was about immigation (legal and illegal) in '86 and it went tot eh San diego border and interviewed detainees being setn home to TJ...

the western head of INS (i think that was his title) put the problam like this-

illegals come her to get a "better life" for their kids..

BUT!

their kids don't get that better life cuz MORE illegals come after them and drive the wages adn job availabiltiy back down...

this is a carousel we must stop. Obama offers no solutions to our problems with this crap.

Obama Immigration Policy
By Judd Legum on Jun 17, 2012 at 10:11 am

This morning on CBS, Mitt Romney was asked twice whether he would continue Obama’s new policy on immigration, ending deportations for DREAM-eligible youth. Romney flatly refused to take a position. The transcript, via Politico:

SCHIEFFER: “[W]ould you repeal [Obama's immigration] order if you became president?” …

ROMNEY: “This is something Congress has been working on, and I thought we were about to see some proposals brought forward by Senator Marco Rubio and by Democrat senators, but the President jumped in and said I’m going to take this action … [H]e was president for the last three and a half years and did nothing on immigration. Two years he had a Democrat House and Senate, did nothing of a permanent or long-term basis. What I would do, is I’d make sure that by coming into office, I would work with Congress to put in place a long-term solution for the children of those that have come here illegally.” …

SCHIEFFER: “But would you repeal this?” …

ROMNEY: “[M]y anticipation is I’d come into office and say we need to get this done, on a long-term basis, not this kind of stop-gap measure. What the president did, he should have worked on this years ago, if he felt seriously about this he should have taken action when he had a Democrat House and Senate, but he didn’t. He saves these sort of things until four and a half months before the general election.” …

In the Republican primaries, Romney’s position on immigration — and particuarly DREAM-eligible youth — was much clearer. He relentlessly attacked Gov. Rick Perry for passing a version of the DREAM Act in Texas. Romney also promised to veto the DREAM Act. His preferred solution for undocumented immigrants was to make their lives so miserable they would “self-deport.”

In an interview on Friday, Kris Kobach, an immigration advisor to the Romney campaign, told ThinkProgress that the new Obama policy was “illegal.” Another Romney advisor told CNN that Romney’s position was “the same” as President Obama.

President Obama Leads After Republicans Obstruct
This morning, the Obama administration made a hugely important announcement that will impact the lives of nearly 1 MILLION young undocumented students. It will allow them to avoid deportation and seek work authorization. While comprehensive immigration reform legislation is still necessary, today’s announcement is a welcome step forward on on the issue.

ThinkProgress’ Amanda Beadle has the details of today’s announcement:

Under the “deferred action” policy, a Department of Homeland Security directive, students in the U.S. who are already in deportation proceedings or those who qualify for the DREAM Act and have yet to come forward to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials, will not be deported and will be allowed to work in the United States.

An estimated 1 million young people could benefit from the deferral. To be eligible, applicants have to be between 15 and 30 years old, live in the U.S. for five years, and maintain continuous U.S. residency. People who have one felony, one serious misdemeanor, or three minor misdemeanors will be ineligible to apply. “Deferred action” will last for two years and can be renewed.

Republicans blocked the DREAM Act in 2010, and this year, House Judiciary Committee Chair Lamar Smith (R-TX) has already said he would not hold a hearing on the DREAM Act in his committee.

And Travis Waldron explains why DREAM is good for the economy, contrary to assertions from man on the right:

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that the DREAM Act — which Republicans blocked in 2010 — would increase federal revenues by $1.7 billion over the next 10 years, reducing federal deficits by $2.2 billion over that time. DREAM-eligible students would generate between $1.4 and $3.6 trillion in taxable income over the course of their working lives, according to a study by UCLA’s North American Integration and Development Center.

DREAM-eligible youth could also help fill the 16 million shortfall of college-educated workers that is expected to hit the U.S. by 2025, and with 31.5 percent of science and engineering graduates coming from Latino backgrounds, Obama’s decision could add252,000 new scientists, engineers, and technical workers to the nation’s dwindling supply in those fields.

The decision will help raise wages for American workers too. “As long as a cheap, compliant pool of undocumented labor is available, employers have every reason to take advantage of the situation, keeping wages as low as possible,” Cristina Jimenez wrote in the American Prospect in 2010. “Only when undocumented immigrants have the ability to exercise complete workplace rights will they help exert upward pressure on wages and labor standards that will benefit other workers.”

These benefits are obvious even to leading Republicans. “The economy will be betterwhen that [undocumented] kid is able to fully realize his potential and break the pattern of his parent’s illegal activity,” former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) said in 2010. Obama’s decision isn’t just good because it protects young adults who have spent most of their lives establishing homes in the United States, it’s good because it will help our struggling economy too.

IN ONE SENTENCE: Obama’s announcement will create a smart policy to help protect young adults at risk of deportation who have spent years establishing their homes in the United States while boosting the U.S. economy.

LOL...the economy would have already been "boosted" if this was true.

our legal immigration policy is a model to the world.

our illegal immigration policy is a disgrace.

this whole thing made me pull up one of John Lennons best works over the weekend.

Imagine. ( you may say i'm a dreamer, but i'm not the only one)

it's a nice nice song. not a fit immigration policy.

i have a real issue wit htis notion that we are losing good people by educating them and "letting" them go home. That position in grad school is filled by foreign student because professors like holding their visas and they abuse those students. Foreign students are selected becuase they are "chep labor" i've literally heard that come out of the mouth of more than one professor. the sad part is that our own children lose those slots becuase they have too much self-esteem to put up with the crap thes bashturds dish out...

Face it business wanted there parents and all the other illegals to break or stop unions or drive the cost of labor down. Now that they don't control the sittuation they want immigration law enforced.

the liberals of this coutnry don't even have clue what being a Nation means, and the consertatives are just plain nuts.

this is just going to bring more illegals with hteir kids to take the jobs the illegals that are already here came to get - a never ending vicious cycle- stooopidity cubed

Mexican President THANKS Obama for new immigration policy.

LOS CABOS, Mexico - The Mexican president and host of the G20 Summit praised President Obama for his administration's new immigration policy announced last week. "I would like to thank personally, and on behalf of the Mexican nation, President Barack Obama for his valuable decision by executive order to give an opportunity for young people who were not born in the United States," President Felipe Calderón said Monday morning.

Here is another reason:

An average of $4 billion is added to the national debt every day

Our math shows the debt has grown by an average of more than $4 billion per day since 2009. It grew by that rate during 2010 as well. The average daily rate has slowed to slightly less than $3 billion so far this year. Either number shows the debt is indeed a big problem.

10 Days And Counting: Romney Adviser Won’t Say If He Would Repeal Obama’s DREAM Directive
By Amanda Peterson Beadle posted from ThinkProgress Justice on Jun 24, 2012 at 3:55 pm

It has been 10 days since President Obama announced his new policy to protect DREAM Act-eligible young adults from deportation, and even after Mitt Romney’s immigration speech last week, the GOP presidential candidate’s campaign still won’t say if he would keep the policy in place.

Instead, Romney adviser Ed Gillespie told CNN’s Candy Crowley Sunday morning that the former governor would review and potentially repeal all of Obama’s executive actions if elected. And Gillespie dismissed Obama’s directive to stop deportations as a politically motivated move to win Latino voters:

GILLESPIE: Between now and November, it’s clear that the Oval Office is an extension of the Obama campaign headquarters and they’re going to make a lot of political moves, and there are a lot of other target demographics that the president will try to appeal to with executive actions.

CROWLEY: [...] But you can’t tell me today whether he would leave that in place?

GILLESPIE: What I’m telling you is that all of these are subject to review and repeal.
