BusinessATK awarded contract to supply ammo to DHS
Published 14 March 2012

ATK scored a major win on Monday with the announcement that it had secured a contractto supply DHS with .40 caliber ammunition.

The contract includes a base of one year with four option years and a maximum volume of 450 million rounds.

ATK was DHS’ existing supplier for its HST bullet, a hollow point that has been proven to pass through a variety of barriers and hold its jacket in tough conditions. According to a company release, HST is designed for 100 percent weight retention, limits collateral damage, and avoids over penetration.

“We are proud to extend our track record as the prime supplier of .40 caliber duty ammunition for DHS, ICE,” said Ron Johnson, the president of ATK’s Security and Sporting group, in a statement. “The HST is a proven design that will continue to serve those who keep our borders safe.”

The firm will manufacture the ammunition at its facility in Anoka, Minnesota and is scheduled to begin deliveries in

450 million rounds? that is a hell of a lot of caps....

BTW? do you practice with tactical ammo? i rarely ever practice with tactical ammo...

once i am sighted in i run a couple of hunting rounds to make sure they act the same and make apropriate adjustments...

"avoids Overpenetration"? LOL, yeah right... read that to mean -delivers the full amount energy to the target... we use FMJ in military situations to avoid delivering the full amount of energy- pass thrus are way better for the target tahn full absorption.

Probably the same company that will get future contracts for the IRS.

I know you all think its tin foil hat time when I keep bringing up the authorization of drone spyplanes flying over the United States, but its only a matter or time before some are armed....for security purposes of course.

between reapers with hellfires and those PAWS with mortars? it won't be pretty..

however, there are about 11 million deer hunters int he US and 3 million with remington 700's whihc is about as accurate as it gets without going custom....

these remote control thingys are like straight out of the playstation games now...

i played a PC game called Descent for years in the early 90's that had guided missiles you could fly remotely....

they never rewrote tehir software to be USB compatible so uyou can't play ti anymore (that's how old it is)

one of the things to always keep in mind/ things have to be really bad to convince American servicemen to fire on civvies. most of our service peopel are from rural America with roots in communities. It's the mercs that have gotten big paychecks for several years that i worry most about. They get to liking a certain lifestyle and they don;t want to give it up...

i dunno why homeland security needs so much ammo tho...
apparently DHS is also requesting bids on 175million rounds of .223

already checked ATK and thier stock, it aint doing so good...

interesting that the .338 lapua has such high ratings...

they forgot the higher caliber barretts... .416 and 50... the 416 has better accuracy and hits a bit harder than the 50... they redesigned the gun when they couldn't make the 50's as accurate as they wanted to and came up with the .416 whihc is better all-round... top shelf

OK, this site here is a collection of bits by a shockjock i listened to in the 80's. To be honest, it's kind of juvenile, nothing like Howard Stern, who he replace when Howard called in for airline tickets from National (as it was calle dthen) to the 14th street bridge on live radio.. that was a little off, there had been a horrible plane wreck there the day before - icy river, snowy and almost 100 people died including commuters on the bridge as i recall... scrwed up

You have to remember that people in DC tend to commute atleast a half hour, so he had a fairly captive audince. The guy is pretty nuts. He had alangauge of replacement words for words you can't say on the radio and i think alot of people leistened expecting him to screw up and use the illegal word by mistake, i did, but i never heard him screw up.. he may have;

there's at least hundred bits here and you have to listen to a couple to get the gist of how he talks... keep in mind it was live radio in DC, right at the federal censors home office and that was prolly what made it so funny... most peopel either love him or hate him...

look for a SGT Fury bit first, those were usually pretty funny..

yeah, and it's definiteley not dry humor...

he was huge personality in DC for a decade or more and was very aproachable...i partied with him a couple times..so did alot of people tho... he was always "on" comic mode...

i had abuddy in the navy from Minnesota that was like him too... the guy had a complete differnt language, but we all understood him. he had differnt (nick) name for everybody in th eunit and everybody's nicknames evvntually became "permanant" or at least interchangable... there's definitley some odd people on this planet.. he called me Frenchie but nobody else picked that one up...
