Anyone know how they figure what price to put for a traffic violation in each city?

Or do they just price them where they want to?

My wife just got one last week for running a red light... camera

$500 big ones for this violation, seems rather steeeeep plus traffic school fee and a little extra.

How do some people afford this.

Was not in the city of Bell either.

I hear you I wish this does seem very high.

I myself can't stand thoes camera cops no human touch.

With an officer issuing the citation can give you a talk to and cut you some slack.

As for your fine appear in traffic court and plead for relief it works most of the time you will get a reduction in fine and the option of time payments if that will make things easier on you.

Were ok as far as paying it.

Camera's are big money makers for cities.

But what do people do that have very limited budget?

What stops these cities from putting a $2000 or more tag on any fine?

I got a ticket a few years ago the same way, either get rear ended or run it, guy was dead on my tail.

Could have fought it because i went down and timed signal with stop watch, was to fast of signal between yellow to red for speed limit.

But if i lost no traffic school option.

If you appeared in court you can not go to traffic school.

That ticket stays on your record if you do not attend school, insurance will most likely go up, especially if one of us gets another ticket.

You pay either way.

i got nailed last week for the first time in a long time.

78 in a 65 ( that's lucky 13 [Big Grin] ) clear weather no traffic but me and him (he was coming the other way and had his lights on before he came around the bend and i saw him) and he wrote it for the full 78 -what a prick.

i admitted it on the spot, and had been following some faster cars and wasn't paying attention when they left the hiway...

the ticket doesnt say how much but i bet it will ne alot..

I believe that each state's DMV sets the fines schedule. I could be wrong though.

We could switch the the Finnish system for citations. Their fine schedule is based off a formula that uses last reported income as a major modifier.

The most expensive ticket ever handed out was to the young heir of a large meat company in Finland. He had to pay 170,000 euros in 2003 for going 80 in a 40 km/hour zone. For 2003 exchange rates that is roughly equal to $150,000 dollars.

Seems fair to me The Bigfoot.

But would the police target the high priced cars?

One ticket and their done for the day.

Wish the police (highway patrol) would spend more time on the freeways, seems to be a lost art these days in CA.

When the cameras first started here (it may have changed due to public outcry), due process was eliminated. No access to a trial, no appeal. You either paid it, or faced a civil judgment and a hickey on your credit score--even though state law has both a duress and a necessity provision...not to mention any number of other extenuating circumstances, like ummm, mechanical malfunction.

sure, or an ambyoolance or pOLeese car signal, or some hacker, or a power spike, or...

NEVER admit your guilt to a cop...in fact don't say anything that will convey guilt...and, ALWAYS challenge the ticket.

For one thing, just because you "feel" guilty may not be fact. That happens a lot, not only in traffic-ticket situations.

Never forget that "the authorities" are legally able to lie to you without repercussion, but one mis-spoken word on your part can send to you prison.

Sure, it's fun viewing, on a TV show when the good-guy cops trick an obviously bad guy into a confession they (the good guys) could not have otherwise obtained.

Problem is, real life ain't a TV show.

"Reality TV" notwithstanding...

i've gotten about 25 traffic tickets all for spinning wheels and speeding.

i've never had a cop give me a ticket for the speed i was actually doing because i admit it right off, and i am honestly respectful, i go fast, always have...

i almost always take 9 miles per hou in any situation, and i've gone over 165 on the street many times... the speedometers don't go any higher....

i've gotten as many warnings as i have tickets by admitting i was wrong and being forthright about it... not rude, just being polite and honest and saying i was in a hurry to do something, just like i did this time...

there has only been one ticket out of all of them that i didn't deserve, and that one was when i was a repoman- they followed me for about twenty miles before i sped to over 100 and was turned around waiting for them at the next intersection. I could not tell they were cops cuz it was an unmarked, and i thought somebody i had repoed was following, i told them so too....
they tagged me for fifteen over, and i actually got up to about 50 over, but they couldn't see me cuz i waited till they were behind a hill to speed up. They say they were following me cuz i spun wheels in a ford dually- with a fuel injected 460 and a 411 rear end.. even tho that truck launched as well a most corvettes (not the ZR1) it was impossible to spin wheels in it and i told them so... they didn't write the spinning wheels ticket on that one just the 15 over, i did intend to fight that one, but i never got the court notice because i had moved to VA before the date came up about year later....

i have avoided 100's or even 1000's of tickets so my attitude is to take my medicine when it's time....

i've driven cross country in under 40 hours actual drive time (i did take naps) without a single ticket...

Or that...lol

Point being, do *not* escalate the situation.

For example, I *could have* gone to jail today.

It would've been bullchit, and I could've eventually proved it. But it would have taken a chunk out of an otherwise productive day, during a HUGE, otherwise legal matter that demands my attention. Actually, it could have tied me up for days, away from a computer--which not only would keep me from moving about freely but also would stop my income.

Cops and judges and politicians are not important enough to let them interrupt your way of life, as long as you are living a genuine life.

Of course, if you are served *legally* you must respond. That being said, if you live a genuine, authentic life, my friend, go bravely forward and fear no one--this is America, after all.

But it would have taken a chunk out of an otherwise productive day,

that's why i don't hassle the cops when they do illegal stops and searches on me..

but i've been thinking about printing up a small copy of the Constitution, and handing it out to people as they want to do the illegal stops and searches...

The TSA needs to read them
we have these random rodblocks all over our area...

when they are close the to the Penitentiary? i don't mind too much... but they do them everywhere now..

so i can just hand them a copy and say, please read Amnemnet 4 whenyou get a chance and pass this up your chain of command, cuz somebody up there didn't read it and they should right away...

in the military? you are responsible for deciding if an order is legal or not. You will get a hassle for deciding it's illegal, but we prosecute the losers of the war for executing illegal orders (Nazi concentration camp guards)

I used to do that but unfortunately it was the wrong speed limit for the area.

They need to make the speed limits universal for me, 65 anywhere.

Sounds like Glassman might have/had a heavy foot at times, never knew that when i had a few hot rods.

It's just a lot harder to get away with hot rodding these days, especially in areas like So. Cal.

They really make the punishment nasty for putting the pedal to the metal.

Takes the fun out of it.

Well we wouldnt want people to think hot rodding is cool in the future because it would cause low MPGs and burning fuel faster, it isnt PC to do that! Just like it isnt PC to drive a hummer!

Why is it that some people think when a person who say is in their mid 40s buys a new vette....that it is some sign of an identity crisis? I hear comments like that from time to time and that kind of thinking doesnt always apply or make sense.

well, my argument about he PCness of hotrodding is that we need more choices cash, if/when you could hotrod in an electic car? they'll be most popular...
electric motors by weight can acclerate so much faster than gasoline you won't beleive them when we gt the tech right...
it's most important that we can choose use otehr fuels if we want to and price is no object to those of us that care about performance

the actaul fact is that IT WAS US HOTRODDERS WHO DEVELOPED ALL the stuff we have on engines now that improve mileage and efficiency, i was building engines with ignition systems so hot that TV's in peoples house would flicker as i drove up the street- today? that's the systme that they put on cars but hey are better sheilded so they don't "leak" the energy out of the wires and the coils like mine did...

the "thing is? we were not trying to use the efficiency we were developing to increase gasoline mileage, but the engines i was building were twice as powerful as th estreetstcok stuff on the showroom floor, and today? they are now about twice as powerful per cubic inch as they were in 1980 and twice as efficient too, because of what us street rodders were doing then, we belw up alotof engines before we found the right combos too..

as to the identity crisis issue? alot of guys just can't afford to buy those toys til they are that old... i didn't get married an have kids til my late twenties that's how i afforded my motorhead lifestyle... i settled down alot ofter i became a parent..

These engines today our pretty slick, problem is they don't have that great exhaust smell that the old ones did/do. [Smile]

When i follow one of those older cars i start having flashbacks.

I start thinking of drive in movies, bobs big boy, Colorado blv, my foot starts to hit the pedal then reality steps in.

Was ruff trying to get that rpm up where we wanted it,(red line) without pushing those pistons out, rods didn't like it.

Upgraded fuel injection sure help these newer cars and computer control.

The ROUSH 2010 427R™ Mustang will be the first in the lineup of new ROUSH® 2010 Mustangs to have a ROUSHcharger® installed which boosts the horsepower to 435 and offers 400 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the first time that ROUSH has been able to offer a supercharged vehicle at the launch of a new body style.

Under the hood customers will see many differences in the ROUSH 2010 427R Mustang compared to previous years. One of the biggest changes is that the long air induction tube that wrapped around the engine was eliminated making a much cleaner appearance under the hood. The intercooler reservoir has more than twice the volume of previous generations, and the intercooler itself is a single core cross-flow radiator which means more efficient cooling. It is substantially larger than on prior model years, and is now raised higher off the ground which should offer much less potential for road debris damage. Even the hoses on the ROUSH 2010 427R have seen an upgrade; they are all now 100 percent molded rubber with abrasion resistance and have imprinted markings for things like the clamp locations. This makes for even more of a true OEM appearance under the hood, and ROUSH has taken this factory appearance to the degree of matching the Ford grain on the OEM radiator reservoir and duplicated it on the one used by the intercooler. Although much of the 4.6L, 3V powertrain components are a carryover from that used on the 2005-2009 ROUSH Mustangs, customers will notice much more refinement and OEM-level quality materials and appearance on the new ROUSHcharged™ engines. This new 427R™ is be covered by a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty.

The 2010 427R™ includes an appearance package which is comprised of several components such as a new front fascia and front splitter, rear fascia, side splitters, and a three-piece rear wing. The new rear fascia is a one-piece design which improves the fit and finish; the part is injection-molded by ROUSH Manufacturing in an OEM-level TPO plastic which, in the black color with decorative grain, will help reduce rock chips. The vehicle rides on 18-inch cast chrome wheels with high-performance Cooper Zeon tires, with a new 20-inch cast chrome wheel as an available option.--

screw teh 20 inch wheels tho [Razz]

i was beatingthe 1HP per cubic inch with a 351W using parts from a 64 289 engine (the heads) and a minimal amount of machine work all teh way back in the late 70's.... i had to be careful on the octane cuz the compression could be as high as 13 to one if wanted it that high..

and yeah the smell was really nice iwish... esp. if i ran CAM2, that stuff smells way better than napalm (victory etc)..

we used to use napthalene to boost the juice too... not really legal, but after we figured out the right amount, we could add a gallon of coleman lantern fuel to 9 gallons of high octane gasoline and tear it up [Big Grin]

had to rebuild a little more often tho... no biggie, i could takw the motor out of a car and have it torn down ready to rebuild in 6 hours before i xcrewed up my back (not in car wreck either) people used to ask what the smell was nad i'd tell 'em transmission fluid [Big Grin] they'd be off trying to figure out what i was up to and never coulf LOL..

$500... Seriously?

I've had about 30 some tickets in my time, only paid about 6 of 'em, three when I was young and stupid, the other's were out of state and I didn't want to travel back there for court.

You have the right to face your accuser in court. Can a traffic camera show up for court and testify?

Always plead not guilty, and take it to trial, no matter the infraction, as long as no accident was caused as a result of your negligence. Cops usually never show up for trial. The cop doesn't show up, the judge throws it out.

I take all traffic infractions to court. Why settle and pay money, when you don't have to pay? Think politics when in court and call their bluff.

Just a tip, from my many experiences for anyone out there.
