Originally posted by T e x: [QB] Pagan, I'd sure hate too see you stop posting here. Please reconsider while we consider this question. Admittedly, I have often wondered myself about the low level of intelligent posting. Although I have no problem intervening on trading threads, I had come to the conclusion that most on the off-topic threads enjoy "trading barbs"--to some degree or another, some more, some less. CJ, bad or good, "free speech" does not apply here in the sense that it does in the public arena. We are all here in "Bob's house," so to speak. To that end, he relies to a certain commendable degree on the mods to influence and maintain a certain tone, or decorum, if you will. In turn--and I'm speaking for myself here, but my sense of it is this: in the off-topic threads, we mods depend to a certain degree on the "core members" and what seems acceptable in our community. In other words, yes, I sorely miss a higher tone of discourse, but I hesitate to restrain members who seem to enjoy insulting one another. In fact, you may notice that I occasionally resort to what I consider a well deserved insult. Also, I must admit, I believe somewhere in the mix is the record-of-fact that some of we "old-timers" *do* enjoy mixing it up with each other, and we play pretty hard ball. But, like trading pennies, it's not really a sport for the under-qualified. So here's my short-term suggestions: 1) remember about throwing stones, the Golden Rule, etc 2) focus on the argument, rather than the member who posted it 3) remember, you always have the "Report Post" option, next to the whistle icon. Again, Pagan, I hope you stick around, and I'm sure others here do, too. In fact, thanks for bringing this up, on a public thread. [/QB]
