Rare uncontacted tribe photographed in Amazon

 -

quote:
RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Amazon Indians from one of the world's last uncontacted tribes have been photographed from the air, with striking images released on Thursday showing them painted bright red and brandishing bows and arrows.

The photographs of the tribe near the border between Brazil and Peru are rare evidence that such groups exist. A Brazilian official involved in the expedition said many of them are in increasing danger from illegal logging.

"What is happening in this region is a monumental crime against the natural world, the tribes, the fauna and is further testimony to the complete irrationality with which we, the 'civilized' ones, treat the world," Jose Carlos Meirelles was quoted as saying in a statement by the Survival International group.

One of the pictures, which can be seen on Survival International's Web site ( http://www.survival-international.org ), shows two Indian men covered in bright red pigment poised to fire arrows at the aircraft while another Indian looks on.

I saw that the other day...look at the villagers aiming their arrows at the plane trying to scare it off lol

I wonder what went through their mind. Sad part...is that they will probably be subject to logging or ranching and will lose their land

Bill Gates should buy a million acres around them, start over with his OS bullhockey and develop the leanest, meanest OS ever...named after these people.

Isn't flying over the top of these guys with an airplane a violation of the "prime directive"?

[Wink]

For all we know, these guys could be building a temple to the "winged sky gods" as we speak!

I don't think it was a coincidence that these photos of an "Uncontacted Tribe" in the Amazon on the border of Brazil and "PERU"......all of the sudden popped up at this time for no reason.

I think those "alledged Indians" are realy mexicans dressed up in costumes with bow and arrows...just to help promote the new indiana Jones movie.....that mostly takes place in Peru. The movie covers the Nazca lines and Indiana jones is searching for a lost city in that area.....and it's guarded by real indians similar to those in the photo's

Those are no doubt just mexians from california getting paid nicely to act like real indians.......They are probably trying to reach those that actualy believed they were real Jedi Knights after watching Star Wars......after all this movie is spliting profits between Lucas films and speilberg.

Ace of Spades Knows All......

They want all these young childrem to hold on to a dream or fantasy that the plot of the movie is possible...so they will be there opening day of the next indiana jones movie....

LOL... the same thing occured to me...

it's kinda sad to me that this is prolly what happened...
i've been a fan of the Nazca art for a couple decades, and it's going to become "pop" now..

the artists literally worked as a community to make those drawings, that's what makes them "neat" to me..

i made a few 8 inch clear (crystalo in italian) glass skulls about 7 years ago and i have one left. i was going to put it on ebay last week till i saw that stupid "documentary" on scifi channel... they have so many facts wrong on that i just didn't want to be "part" of it in any way... the "mystery skulls" were made in Europe using high speed tools, the guy that made 'em couldn't sell 'em so they started a "mystic" campaign... it's "fun stuff" to get excited about, but it's all just really bad marketing hype...

The Not-So-Lost Tribe
by Mike Krumboltz
June 23, 2008 06:09:40 PM

Even in an age when cynical sleuths can hyper-analyze stories for truth and accuracy, the occasional hoax still slips through the cracks. Such was the case with a so-called "lost Amazon tribe."

A few months ago, mainstream news outlets (including, ahem, Yahoo!) reported that a photographer had found a lost tribe of warriors near the Brazilian-Peruvian border. Photos of the tribe backed up his claim.

As it turns out, the story is only half true. The men in the photo are members of a tribe, but it certainly ain't "lost." In fact, as the photographer, José Carlos Meirelles, recently explained, authorities have known about this particular tribe since 1910. The photographer and the agency that released the pictures wanted to make it seem like they were members of a lost tribe in order to call attention to the dangers the logging industry may have on the group.

The photographer recently came clean, and news outlets, perhaps embarrassed at having been taken for a ride, have been slow to pick up the story. Now, the word is starting to spread and articles in the Buzz are picking up steam. Expect a lot more brutal truth in the coming days.
