but powell wouldn't have dirt and he was let go?........as you know i don't buy into a lot of this political name calling, its to easy. Powell is gone now, if he calls bush a jerk and wrong on the iraq war, he (if you hate bush and the war) become a figure of reverance and standing up for principle. (to bush backers) he's bitter and lashing out after losing his job.

If Powell states that working for bush was the best thing ever etc.. the left will say its political but kissing and not to be trusted. the right will say he's speaking his mind why would he lie, he was fired.

IMO..A Secretary of State MUST portray THE PRESIDENTS views to foreign leaders. They MUST feel that the person is speaking for the president and his/her word can be trusted. (otherwise deals wont be made with some of these countries)
I feel that rice can do that and i feel powell did that.
Whats more interesting is how she will do brokering a peace deal with palestine/israel.
being a woman she obviously has some immediate pitfalls to the middle east mindset on womens role. on the other hand, they are not used to negotiating with a woman and that may work to her advantage. time will tell and no one else has done anything for 30 years so she can't be blamed.
I also think it is fantastic that she is the first black woman to becmome secretary of state. That in itself is huge.
